C23 !
What?
Zhang Chen's brows instantly knitted together as Lee Junyi's words hung in the air.
Despite having considered every possible scenario, the thought of Lin Junkai plotting to murder Old Master Lin had never crossed his mind!
Zhang Chen's teeth ground together, the sound echoing sharply as anger flared within him once more.
That monster, Lin Junkai!
"Anything else?" Zhang Chen demanded, his voice icy, his gaze glinting with a chilling light.
Lee Junyi was lost in thought, his eyes shimmering with terror.
After a lengthy pause, Lee Junyi finally shook his head. "No more for now. The specifics aren't set. We've decided to discuss it in detail tomorrow, after today's business is concluded."
Zhang Chen inhaled deeply, striving to quell the rage simmering in his chest.
But then, Zhang Chen found himself wrestling with a dilemma.
If he simply let Lee Junyi walk away, their secret would surely be revealed. He had plans to turn the tables on them.
Yet, if Zhang Chen didn't release Lee Junyi, their plot would come to a standstill.
Amidst Zhang Chen's internal struggle, Loong San stepped forward and positioned himself beside Lee Junyi.
With a swift motion, Loong San pinched Lee Junyi's mouth open and tossed a red pill inside.
Forced to comply, Lee Junyi swallowed the pill, his eyes brimming with renewed panic.
"What have you made me swallow?" Lee Junyi asked, terror-stricken, his body shaking uncontrollably.
Even Zhang Chen looked on, a flicker of bewilderment in his eyes.
"It's poison," Loong San stated dispassionately. "Come to me for the antidote every three days, or you'll die a gruesome death, your body rotting away."
The information detonated in Lee Junyi's mind, and he instinctively tried to vomit the pill back up.
But no matter how much he gagged, the pill stayed down.
Zhang Chen's eyebrow arched in approval.
Loong San certainly had his methods!
With all his questions answered, Zhang Chen was ready for retribution.
He turned to Loong San with a grin and said, "Lee Junyi is in your hands now."
Loong San gave a curt nod.
Without further hesitation, Zhang Chen spun on his heel and strode out of the room.
Once Zhang Chen had departed, the room echoed with the harrowing sounds of Lee Junyi's agonized wails.
Lee Junyi had the audacity to entertain such thoughts about Lin Zhiqing, but Zhang Chen wasn't about to let him off the hook that easily.
He retrieved the room card and made his way back to Lin Zhiqing's room.
With Loong San's skills at his disposal, Zhang Chen didn't need to concern himself with what came next.
Upon entering, he found Lin Zhiqing still asleep, her hair tousled and the flush on her cheeks faded.
Her bare, alluring shoulders struck a visually stunning contrast.
Feeling at ease, Zhang Chen settled into the sofa in silence.
Lin Junkai was still around downstairs, but without any concrete evidence, Zhang Chen was at a standstill.
He resolved to wait for Lin Junkai to act before revealing his true colors.
Having sparred with Lee Junyi for quite some time, Zhang Chen felt weary.
Just as he was about to lie down for a brief respite, his phone buzzed insistently from his pocket.
He pulled it out to find an unfamiliar number calling.
After a moment's hesitation, Zhang Chen answered the call.
A sultry voice immediately teased him from the other end, "Stinky brat, where are you hiding?"
It was Fourth Sister calling!
Zhang Chen couldn't help but smile and quickly responded, "I'm at the hotel, actually. I was just trying to reach you."
"Did you actually start to miss me?" Lau Qingyue's voice was laced with amusement.
Her voice was so seductive that even through the phone, Zhang Chen felt a tingling sensation.
He chuckled and inquired, "What's up, Fourth Sister? What do you need?"
"Nothing much," Lau Qingyue's voice was cheerful. "I'm on my lunch break and thought we could grab a bite together."
Zhang Chen's interest was piqued, and he readily agreed, "Sure, Fourth Sister, where are you? I'll come to you right now!"
Lau Qingyue gave him the address.
Without a second thought, Zhang Chen left the hotel.
The meal was just a pretext; Zhang Chen's real intent was to seize the chance to confirm whether Lau Qingyue was indeed the Godly Doctor Qingyue.
If she was, it would make everything much simpler.
Once he got out of the car, Zhang Chen strode briskly into the restaurant.
Guided by the waiter, Zhang Chen ascended to the second floor and immediately spotted the captivating woman tucked away in the corner.
With a wide grin, he hastened his steps toward her.
"You got here pretty quickly," Lau Qingyue said, her smile enchanting as her gaze quietly took him in.
Zhang Chen suddenly felt a bit self-conscious.
After all, it had been dark the previous evening, and in his haste, he hadn't gotten a clear look at Lau Qingyue's face.
Now, as he observed her, there was an unfamiliarity between them that he couldn't quite place. But what struck him most was Lau Qingyue's beauty—it was almost intimidating...
"Third Sister caused quite the commotion last night, and we didn't get the chance to catch up properly. It's been so long—haven't you missed me?" Lau Qingyue asked with a lazy lift of her eyelids, her every expression seemingly capable of ensnaring one's soul.
Caught off guard, Zhang Chen managed a sheepish smile. "Miss you? Of course, I do! Every single day!"
Her eyes twinkled like crescent moons as she probed further, "Do you think of me during the day, or is it at night?"
With that, Lau Qingyue cast a coquettish look his way.
Zhang Chen found himself swallowing hard, guiltily averting his eyes. Lau Qingyue's flirtations were more than he could handle.
"Fourth Sister, please stop teasing me..." he said, his voice tinged with resignation.
Lau Qingyue's smile lingered as she turned her attention elsewhere.
As they ordered their meal, Zhang Chen's thoughts drifted to the Godly Doctor. He wrestled with his words, anxious about broaching the subject too abruptly and ending up like Su Mang.
"There's no need to beat around the bush with me. If you've got something to say, out with it," Lau Qingyue said, reclining slightly with an air of nonchalance.
Zhang Chen paused, looking up in astonishment. "How did you know I had something to discuss with you?"
"I've watched you grow up; is there anything about you I wouldn't know?" Lau Qingyue replied with a knowing smile, her gaze lingering on him with significance.
Feeling utterly at a loss, Zhang Chen realized there was no point in concealment.
"Fourth Sister, are you the renowned Godly Doctor Qingyue?" he ventured.
"Godly Doctor Qingyue?"
Lau Qingyue's eyebrows lifted in mild surprise as she inquired.
A sense of dread settled in Zhang Chen's chest.
Could it be that she wasn't the renowned Godly Doctor Qingyue?
He nodded, his emotions growing more complex by the second.
If Lau Qingyue wasn't the famed healer, resolving this issue would be a formidable challenge, especially with Old Master Lin's life hanging in the balance.
Quickly, Lau Qingyue spoke up again, "Oh, that? It's just a moniker some idle folks pinned on me a few years back. Is there a problem?"
Zhang Chen felt a surge of excitement at her words!
"Fourth Sister, so you're the legendary Godly Doctor Qingyue? That's incredible!"
His admiration for her was genuine, and his heart swelled with excitement.
If Fourth Sister was indeed Godly Doctor Qingyue, then Old Master Lin's chances...
