C63 Divorce!
Time slipped away, and before anyone knew how long had passed, the door to the operating room swung open. Lau Qingyue shrugged off her surgical gown and tossed it aside without a second thought. "All done," she stated simply.
All done?
Eyes around the room bulged in disbelief, a spark of astonishment flickering within.
That quickly?
The Lin family members were momentarily frozen in shock, all except for Tang Guozhong, who managed to keep his composure. He approached her eagerly, his face alight with excitement. "Doctor, you—"
But Lau Qingyue cut him off mid-sentence. "I was fulfilling a request; no thanks are necessary. I have other matters to attend to. I must be going." Without waiting for a response, she turned on her heel and headed straight for the staircase.
It wasn't until her figure had vanished that the crowd snapped back to reality. They exchanged glances, their eyes now shimmering with uncontainable excitement.
"It's a success! If such a skilled doctor has given her word, then the Old Master must be out of danger!" Tang Guozhong's eyes sparkled with elation as he spoke.
Lin Guofeng and Lin Guolong let out deep sighs of relief upon hearing this. Lee Fengqin rose to her feet, her voice brimming with pride, "Now you see? Zhiqing couldn't have been the one to poison him. She's the one who brought us this remarkable doctor!"
"If Zhiqing had really poisoned the Old Master, why would she seek out a doctor? Once he awakens, he'll surely reveal the truth!"
Following these words, Lin Guofeng and Lin Guolong's gazes carried a touch of complexity. After a pause, Lin Guofeng stood and offered a remorseful admission, "I'm sorry, my niece. We were wrong about you before."
Lin Guolong remained silent but bowed his head in agreement.
Lin Zhiqing responded calmly, "It's fine. Once Grandpa wakes up, we'll find out who the real culprit is."
Lin Junkai's heart clenched at her words. His mind raced, yet he was at a loss for what to do next, left with no choice but to bide his time for another chance.
Lee Fengqin interjected hastily, "Zhiqing, your grandfather's rescue today was all thanks to Young Master Yee!"
"Young Master Yee is now a great benefactor to the Lin family!"
"Tonight, we absolutely must invite Young Master Yee over to our place. Let's make sure we give him a warm welcome!" Lin Zhiqing's eyes betrayed a flicker of indecision. After a moment's contemplation, she reluctantly made a phone call. Once she had explained the situation, Yee Qingsong was taken aback. Nevertheless, he acknowledged the matter and agreed to join them for dinner at the Lin residence.
Old Master Lin would need more time to recover, but with Tang Guozhong there, the Lin family's presence wasn't necessary. The group departed the hospital and set off directly for the Lin household.
Meanwhile, Zhang Chen was seated on the couch, Lau Qingyue's predicament weighing on his mind. What could possibly terrify her so much? He let out a deep sigh, clueless about what to do next.
As Zhang Chen sat lost in thought, the rumble of engines sounded from outside. He glanced out to see several luxury cars pulling into the driveway. His eyebrows lifted in anticipation—had the surgery been successful?
He was about to rise when Lee Fengqin led the Lin family members into the living room. The thought of Yee Qingsong's impending arrival had Lee Fengqin beaming with delight, her face alight with happiness. Zhang Chen's excitement bubbled up uncontrollably; Lee Fengqin's expression was a clear sign of a successful surgery.
Eager for confirmation, Zhang Chen approached with a cheerful grin. "Zhiqing, how did grandpa's surgery go?"
But before he could get an answer, Lee Fengqin's smile vanished, replaced by a look of sheer disdain. "Can't you see we have guests? Go pour the tea!" she snapped.
Zhang Chen paused, a hint of bewilderment crossing his face. Why were they still treating him this way? He looked around, realizing no one was paying him any attention—not even Lin Zhiqing.
With Lee Fengqin's scowl bearing down on him, he turned and made his way to the kitchen.
Once Zhang Chen was out of sight, Lee Fengqin's smile returned. She quickly ushered everyone to their seats. Lin Guofeng and Lin Guolong took their places at the head, while the others settled into the surrounding sofas.
Tea served, Zhang Chen hurried back to Lin Zhiqing's side and whispered, "So, was it a success? Grandpa's surgery went well, didn't it?"
A glint of icy resolve flickered in Lin Zhiqing's eyes as she demanded, "Why did you rush back from the hospital just now?"
Deep down, she didn't fault Zhang Chen for his lack of assistance; she knew he lacked the means. But what irked her was his need to boast. Why flee the scene after such grand claims?
Zhang Chen offered a sheepish grin. "I've located the Godly Doctor. Turns out, I had some matters to attend to here, so I returned to handle them."
Guilt gnawed at him. He had accomplished nothing since his return.
Sneers echoed around the room, and the onlookers' eyes brimmed with contempt as they stared at Zhang Chen.
A sense of utter hopelessness settled over Lin Zhiqing. She asked icily, "So, you're claiming you brought the Godly Doctor here?"
Zhang Chen replied, bewildered, "Yes, that's right."
He scanned the crowd, but their faces gave him an ominous feeling. What was happening?
Lee Fengqin's voice dripped with loathing. "Zhang Chen, you're utterly despicable!"
"To think you'd continue to lie in our presence!"
"Listen well, as of today, you're no longer associated with the Lin family! You will divorce Zhiqing tomorrow!"
