C18 Accept Her

"Team Leader, how can you possibly finish all these drawings in one night? How about I stay and help you?"

Lee Weiwei, who had witnessed the entire situation, wanted to lend a hand to Tang Yan but was politely declined.

Tang Yan showed a grateful smile but remained firm. "You should head home. I'll stay and work overtime."

If anyone helped her and Tang Li found out, it would likely cause unnecessary trouble. Besides, she didn't want to drag others into her personal issues.

Seeing her determination, Weiwei reluctantly left the office, still worried.

As night fell, the only light in the entire design department was at Tang Yan's desk. She rubbed her tired eyes and suddenly heard her phone buzz. It was a text from Xi Pei.

"Still at work?"

She suddenly remembered that Xi Pei had mentioned in the morning he would pick her up after work. Not wanting him to wait too long, Tang Yan quickly grabbed her phone to reply.

"Working late tonight. It'll be really late by the time I get back. Go ahead and have dinner without me."

There was no response, so Tang Yan assumed Xi Pei had gone home. She buried herself back into her work.

Finally, around eleven, she finished revising all the drawings and sent the completed files to Tang Li's email. Leaning back in her office chair, she let out a heavy sigh of relief.

"It's so late; I guess I'll have to take a cab home."

After sitting in the same position for too long, she felt her back aching and her whole body tired as she took the elevator down.

She walked out of the office building and was just about to use her phone to call a ride when she noticed a black car parked not far away. The figure standing by the door looked very familiar.

Tang Yan rubbed her eyes, hardly daring to believe it, and walked over.

"Xi Pei?"

It wasn't until she got closer that she could confirm it was indeed Xi Pei!

The dim streetlight cast a soft golden glow over him, highlighting his graceful and smooth features. When he lifted his head, his deep, dark eyes seemed to pierce right into Tang Yan's heart, making it skip a beat.

"Yeah, get in."

Without saying much, he thoughtfully opened the passenger door for Tang Yan.

As they headed home, Xi Pei finally asked, "Does your company often make employees work until eleven?"

His brow furrowed slightly, clearly displeased with such a policy.

Tang Yan smiled wryly to herself. She used to leave work on time, but now that Tang Li had become the vice president of her department, overtime was likely to become a regular thing. However, she wasn't ready to share her issues with the Tang family with Xi Pei, so she simply replied.

"I've got a project on my hands lately, and as the team leader, I'm definitely busier than usual. I was caught up revising the design plans today, which is why I'm leaving work so late," she said, sneaking a glance at the man's handsome profile. "Have you been waiting downstairs for me this whole time?"

Xi Pei, who was driving, nodded calmly.

Tang Yan felt a jolt in her heart. Xi Yan had texted her around eight, asking how things were going, which meant he had already been waiting downstairs. Now it was almost eleven, so he had been waiting for nearly three hours!

A wave of emotion surged through Tang Yan. This was the first time someone had waited so long just to pick her up from work.

She stole another glance at Xi Yan and suddenly noticed that his usually sharp features seemed to have softened a bit.

"Really, you don't have to wait for me next time. I can just grab a cab home."
