C4 Breakfast

Tang Yan breathed a sigh of relief. Being at the Xi family home meant she had leverage over Tang Li, so she wasn't worried about Tang Li breaking their agreement.

After hanging up the phone, she was about to change clothes when suddenly, the bathroom door swung open, and a tall, imposing figure walked out.

"What are you doing here?"

Tang Yan was startled, realizing she wasn't fully dressed yet. She quickly threw on her clothes. What worried her more was that Xi Yan had been in the room the whole time. Did he hear everything she said on the balcony?

Despite her confident front with Tang Li, Tang Yan knew that if the Xi family discovered she had married in place of Tang Li, it wouldn't just be Tang Li in trouble—it would be her too!

"Where else would I be?"

The man frowned slightly, his gaze sweeping over Tang Yan's bare yet still beautiful face. A flash of last night's memories softened his tone a bit.

"Get ready. After breakfast, we're heading back to the Xi family home."

With that, he turned and headed downstairs.

Tang Yan's heart was still racing, only calming down once Xi Pei's figure disappeared completely. She muttered to herself quietly, "He seemed pretty normal. Hopefully, he didn't hear anything."

If Xi Yan had really heard the conversation, with his notoriously ruthless reputation, he would have confronted her by now. There’s no way he’d still be taking her back home.

Still, Tang Yan remained cautious. She quickly got ready, dressed, and headed downstairs.

In the spacious villa, it was just the two of them and Mrs. Zhang, the housekeeper. Xi Pei was seated at one side of the dining room, dressed in a black shirt and pants. As he ate, the shadows obscured half of his face, making it hard to read his expression.

Tang Yan approached, worried that Xi Pei might have overheard her phone call. The square dining table was large, and she chose a seat on the left, careful not to sit too close to him.

Suddenly, his voice broke the silence.

“What do you usually prefer for breakfast, American or something else?”

Tang Yan was momentarily taken aback before realizing Xi Pei was speaking to her. She stammered slightly as she replied, “Something else.”

He nodded and instructed Mrs. Zhang, “Bring her a breakfast.”

Soon, a steaming bowl of seafood porridge and freshly squeezed juice were placed in front of her. As Tang Yan sipped the porridge, she glanced at Xi Pei, who was seated not too far away.

She thought to herself, he’s actually taking an interest in my breakfast preferences. He must not have heard the phone conversation, or he would have been furious by now.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Tang Yan felt a bit surprised. She noticed Xi Pei was having a Western breakfast and assumed she'd have to adjust to his preferences. To her surprise, he had considered even the smallest details, which struck her as thoughtful. This thought startled Tang Yan, as Xi Yan was rumored to be decisive and tough, not someone you'd associate with "thoughtful."

"Finish up and get ready to head to the Xi family soon," Xi Pei said, glancing at his phone while casting a quick look at Tang Yan, subtly raising an eyebrow. Do women always eat this slowly? Oh well, I can wait a bit longer.

As soon as he finished speaking, Tang Yan quickly finished the last bites of her breakfast and stood up straight. "I'm ready."

Xi Pei paused, then nodded, grabbing a jacket as he headed out.
