C6 Feelings Good
Lost in thought, another voice broke through.
"Uncle, it's a big deal that my brother finally got married. We should be happy for him. Besides, Miss Tang seems sensible and kind. I doubt she'll mind his status."
Tang Yan glanced over and saw a man in a white shirt sitting next to Xi Chuyang. He had a strong, handsome face, somewhat resembling Xi Pei. Despite his smile, there was something unsettling in his eyes.
Tang Yan instinctively felt that this man was dangerous.
The once arrogant uncle now spoke respectfully to him, "Xi Yan, you're too kind-hearted. Xi Pei is just an illegitimate child. If you hadn't given up this marriage agreement, how could someone like him marry into the Tang family? Honestly, the first person he should thank after getting married is you. It's all thanks to you!"
Scattered laughter echoed around them. If Tang Yan didn't catch on by now, she'd be a fool.
So, she hadn't married Xi Yan but an illegitimate son of the Xi family?
Tang Li had found a substitute bride, and Xi Yan had found a substitute groom?
Tang Yan was speechless at the absurdity of it all. What a soap opera!
She turned to look at the man beside her. Xi Pei stood quietly, head slightly bowed, his face emotionless. His long lashes cast a faint shadow under his eyes. He remained silent, not uttering a word in his defense, which inexplicably tugged at Tang Yan's heart.
You know, the two of them are kindred spirits in a way.
Even though she wasn’t well-regarded in her family, at least she had her mom to rely on. But what about Xi Pei? From what people said, he seemed like someone with no support, just a weed for others to trample on.
In that moment, a shared sense of sympathy filled her heart, and Tang Yan suddenly grasped Xi Pei’s hand.
“Sir,” she addressed his uncle, “don’t you think your words are a bit inappropriate? No matter his background, Xi Pei is part of the family. By asking him to serve me well, are you belittling him or the entire family?”
Her words left everyone stunned. Xi Pei’s once somber eyes turned to the woman beside him. She stood tall, holding his hand firmly, and every word she spoke was in his defense.
A flicker of surprise crossed his face. She wasn’t angry? He had expected her to be furious upon learning his true identity, yet here she was, standing up for him.
After confronting his uncle, Tang Yan turned to Xi Yan, the man she was originally supposed to marry. But Tang Yan didn’t care about his status.
“Xi Yan, although I was initially meant to marry you, I’m grateful you passed the engagement to Xi Pei. I believe my husband is second to none, and marrying him is the luckiest thing that ever happened to me!”
Xi Yan's expression suddenly darkened, his eyes narrowing dangerously. Was this woman out of her mind, actually wanting to thank him? Did she really think he was less important than an illegitimate child?
Everyone exchanged glances, surprised that after learning the truth, Tang Yan didn't cause a scene. Instead, she seemed to be defending Xi Pei at every turn. They had only known each other for one night, and their bond had already grown so strong?
Suddenly, Tang Yan felt warmth in her palm as Xi Pei tightly clasped her hand in return.
