C16 The General Manager Asked to See Her

After Yu Xiaotong returned from the police station, the store was running like normal. Only those closest to her were roused enough to greet her quietly and praise her for her courage.

The woman overseeing her, Lin Yafeng, came over to pat her on the back and asked after her thoughtfully, “Are you alright? Did you get hurt during the scuffle?”

Yu Xiaotong shook her head smilingly. “I’m okay. Thanks for asking, Sister Yafang.”

At this time, the supervisor came over to inform her that the General Manager wanted to see her in his office.

She greeted the secretary outside and told her that the General Manager wanted to see her.

The secretary said, “Director Zuo said you may go in now.”

She was already here, so she did not put much thought into it whether it was a blessing or curse. There was no way around it. She had to go in. Therefore, after calming herself down, she knocked on the door. She heard a voice calling out, “Come in!” With a push of her hand, the door moved forward and she walked in.

Zuo Yuliang was sitting behind the desk. When he saw her, he stood up and said, “Have a seat. There’s something I need to tell you.”

After a moment of hesitation, Yu Xiaotong sat down.

Zuo Yuliang said, “You are doing a good job in sales. Continue to work hard and you will have a good future in this company.”

Yu Xiaotong said, “I know. I will do my best at work, Director Zuo.”

“But…” Zuo Yuliang turned to look at her. “Your actions today were uncalled for.”

“What?” Yu Xiaotong expressed her astonishment at his words.

Zuo Yuliang stood up from his seat and walked around his desk. He circled around Yu Xiaotong and placed both his hands on her shoulders. Then he lowered his head, looking down at her before saying, “Your impulsive nature could have spelled out trouble for the company. For a phone, you almost got yourself killed. Fortunately, this thief is not daring. If you met a bold one, your neck would not be still intact. And that would be on the company.”

His gaze did not turn to her neck but towards her beautiful collarbone.

Yu Xiaotong looked up at Zuo Yuliang and caught his burning gaze staring down at her. She could not help but blush and said, “I wasn’t thinking much back then. I was only focused on getting my phone back and didn’t put too much thought into anything else.”

She could feel Zuo Yuliang’s face only inches away from hers. Her breathing quickened rapidly.

Zuo Yuliang’s gaze lightly moved from her collarbone to the scar on her neck. He reached out to touch it and asked her, “How did you get this scar?”

Yu Xiaotong felt discomfort on her neck. She was not used to Zuo Yuliang’s roaming hands, but she froze on the spot, unable to move away.

He was standing close to her. One of his hands was placed on her shoulder and the other was touching her scar. His face was unbearably close to her face. When he opened his mouth to speak, his warm breath sprayed on her face. If someone walked in on them just then, they would think that something was going on between the two of them.

Her ears were burning hot and her heart was pounding fast in her chest. Her nerves and anxiety made it hard for her to think of an answer to his question.

He looked at her reddened face and smiled at her handsomely. “Is there anything wrong? If it is inconvenient for you to say at this time, then no worries, you don’t need to answer.”

He straightened his back and put some distance between her and him. Yu Xiaotong began to relax and she quietly breathed out as if greatly relieved after experiencing a heavy burden.

Zuo Yuliang returned to his seat opposite from Yu Xiaotong and looked at her. “Do you know I was worried for your life when I saw you in danger this afternoon?”

Yu Xiaotong’s face turned impossibly redder. She bent her head down, too embarrassed to say a word.

She did not know what ulterior motives this Director Zuo had. He shouted at her in the afternoon and now he was being so friendly. Perhaps he wanted to show his concern for his employees? But Yu Xiaotong couldn't help but feel that underneath it all he had other intentions.

She did not dare to give this too much thought. She lifted her head and said, “Thanks for being concerned about me!”

Zuo Yuliang checked his watch and said, “The workday is over. Sorry for delaying you from getting off work.” Then he seemed to have thought of something. “How about this? I’ll treat you to dinner.
