C3 A Good Dog Doesn't Block the Way

Lin Hao was close enough to peer into the box and spot the item nestled inside—an exquisite and opulent necklace.

The necklace was studded with a multitude of sparkling crystals, but the true showstopper was the large diamond pendant at its center, weighing in at no less than three carats.

The Lin Family's business empire spanned a broad spectrum, including the jewelry sector, which meant Lin Hao grew up surrounded by such luxury. He was well-acquainted with many renowned international designers and had a deep understanding of their craft.

He instantly recognized the piece. It was the work of the celebrated French jewelry designer, Dianne, composed of 180 crystals and a single three-carat diamond.

This particular design, the "Dream Lover," was a rarity, with only ten in existence worldwide, making it exceedingly difficult to procure. And here was Wang Wennyuan, presenting Meng Shuran with what appeared to be one of these coveted necklaces. Yet despite its convincing appearance, it was unmistakably a counterfeit.

"Shuran," Wang Wennyuan began, his face etched with a mix of regret and guilt, "I remember you once told me that the 'Dream Lover' necklace was your favorite. I spent a long time trying to secure one through friends and connections, but I couldn't acquire the genuine article."

He continued, "Left with no other option, I spent 1.5 million to have this replica made for you to wear in the meantime. But rest assured, just give me a little more time, and I promise to get the real 'Dream Lover' into your hands."

Meng Shuran snapped the gift box shut, her expression tinged with disappointment. "It's understandable that you couldn't find it. After all, there are only ten 'Dream Lover' necklaces in the entire world. I heard that a couple of years ago, one sold at auction for a staggering 28 million. So please, don't trouble yourself looking for the real thing anymore. This imitation is quite beautiful in its own right."

Upon hearing Meng Shuran's words, Wang Wennyuan felt a shiver run through him. Twenty-eight million! His entire fortune barely totaled thirty million. The thought of spending nearly all of it on a single necklace was unfathomable.

He managed an embarrassed smile and remarked, "It seems the 'Dream Lover' is indeed in high demand..."

Before he could say more, Lin Hao abruptly snatched the gift box from Meng Shuran's hands and, without a word, flung it to the ground before their eyes.

"The gift you received is just a knockoff. Honey, you can't accept that! If you like it, I'll get you the genuine article to wear!"

Lin Hao said this without regard for Meng Shuran's visibly upset demeanor, taking her hand and leading her toward the company.

It was the peak of rush hour, and the entrance to the company was bustling with employees hurrying to start their workday. The disturbance caught the attention of many, who turned to look with curiosity.

Meng Shuran felt a surge of anger but restrained herself. As a director of the company, making a scene at the entrance was out of the question.

"Lin Hao, what are you doing? By what right do you discard a gift given to me?" Her voice was hushed, yet the fury in Meng Shuran's tone was unmistakable.

Lin Hao remained silent, but Wang Wennyuan's furious shout erupted from behind: "Stop right there!"

The necklace, worth 1.5 million, lay discarded on the ground, causing Wang Wennyuan's heart to ache as if bleeding. Lin Hao, however, ignored his bellowing, continuing to pull Meng Shuran along. Wang Wennyuan had no choice but to hurry after them and confront them.

"Didn't you hear me say stop!?" Wang Wennyuan glared at Lin Hao, his finger nearly jabbing Lin Hao's nose.

"You just tossed a necklace worth 1.5 million yuan on the ground? If it's even slightly damaged, you couldn't afford to compensate for it, even if you sold yourself. Do you understand!?"

Lin Hao faced Wang Wennyuan with an impassive gaze, casually brushing his pointing finger aside.

"First, Meng Shuran is my wife! It would be wise for you to keep your distance."

"Second, I'm the one who will provide for my wife's desires! Tonight, she will receive the authentic 'Dream Lover' necklace. Your imitation is unworthy of my stunning and exceptional wife."

He paused, giving Wang Wennyuan a look that carried a hint of a mocking sneer.

"And third, a good dog doesn't stand in the way!"

With that, Lin Hao pushed past Wang Wennyuan, taking the somewhat dazed Meng Shuran with him as he strode into the company.

Wang Wennyuan seethed with anger as he watched the pair walk into the company.

"Moron! Riding that junky electric bike and trying to show off with a 'Dream Lover' necklace. He must be living in a fantasy!"

His rage fixated on Lin Hao's electric bike, parked to the side. With a swift kick, Wang Wennyuan sent the bike sprawling, pieces scattering. After ensuring the necklace in the box was unharmed, he drove off, still fuming.

In the Chairman's Office of Anji Corporation, Meng Shuran sat at her desk, her gaze burning with fury at Lin Hao, who nonchalantly sipped his water. Her anger grew with every passing moment.

Wang Wennyuan was a big name in construction, backed by the influential Lin Family, one of the Northern Lands' most affluent clans. Anji Corporation was on its last legs, desperately needing a four-million-dollar lifeline, which had eluded her. She had hoped to persuade Wang Wennyuan to invest, but now Lin Hao had alienated him. How could she possibly approach Wang Wennyuan for investment now?

She regretted involving Lin Hao in anything; he did nothing but embarrass her. If only she had known, she would have rather been late than accept a ride from him to work.

"Why are you still here? What are you doing? Just looking at you irritates me!" Meng Shuran snapped at Lin Hao.

Lin Hao nodded, tossed his paper cup into the bin, and left the office without another word.

Watching him leave so indifferently only fueled Meng Shuran's rage. She couldn't fathom why her friends and sisters had married into wealth and power, while she was stuck with such a loser.

She should have never listened to her parents, who wanted their only daughter to marry a compliant man who would join their family, not take her away. Now, she was filled with regret.

The thought of attending the Meng Family's quarterly gathering that evening, with Lin Hao in tow, only added to her vexation.

She knew without guessing. It was always the same story—whenever Lin Hao showed up, the mocking and jeering from others were inevitable, leaving her too ashamed to lift her head.

Meanwhile, Lin Hao had just descended the stairs and exited the Anji Corporation building when he caught sight of his small electric scooter, now a pitiful wreck.

"Damn it! Who trashed my scooter!?" Lin Hao's furious roar echoed at the entrance of Anji Corporation, drawing curious glances from all around.

He crouched down, caressing the scooter that had been his faithful companion for over two years, his eyes brimming with sorrow.

He had bought it for 500 RMB at a second-hand market, and for two years, it had been his reliable steed. And now, it lay in ruins!

Lin Hao could easily guess with the slightest thought that Wang Wennyuan was behind this.

"Isn't that our chairman's husband?" a woman in business attire pointed out Lin Hao to her colleagues at the entrance of Anji.

"Yes, that's him, Lin Hao! I was at the chairman's wedding."

"He looks like such a loser, mourning over that wreck of a scooter. He's the picture of poverty—I can't fathom what our chairman saw in him, marrying a man like that."

"He seems like a poor country bumpkin!"

The group of women gossiped about Lin Hao, bursting into laughter now and then. Unaware of their scrutiny, Lin Hao was too far to notice.

"He's quite the character," Lin Hao muttered with 'affection' as he stroked the battered scooter. He spoke solemnly, "Little scooter, you've endured so much! Rest assured, I will get revenge for you!"

With that, Lin Hao stood up, pulled out his phone, and dialed Old Master Lin's number.

"This is Lin Hao. I can help resolve the Lin Family's crisis. But first, I have two conditions. One, deliver the 'Dream Lover' necklace to me by six o'clock tonight. Two, regarding our family's construction division in Wangjiang—there's a man named Wang Wennyuan. I expect to see him bankrupted sooner rather than later."
