C27 Kou Quan Fought with His Life on the Line

Some mercenaries were tempted to advance, but Lin Yaoyang took a slight step forward and bellowed, "Let's see who dares to make a move!"

Anger was etched across Lin Yaoyang's face; he was truly enraged. He had been ambushed, and now Kou Quan, that shameless wretch, was trying to turn the tables on him, treating him as if he were a soft touch.

It was beyond belief how Kou Quan could stoop so low, refusing to own up to his actions, though perhaps it was his desperate strategy to stay alive.

Kou Quan seemed to think that by sending all the mercenaries at him, he could easily take him down. Such naivety! With Lin Yaoyang's power at full throttle, he could dispatch these Level 9 Warriors as effortlessly as slicing through vegetables—one swift move per warrior, no exaggeration.

And with the boost from the Power of the Ant King, each enemy he killed and whose Qi he absorbed would barely dent his own energy reserves.

To think he could be so easily defeated was laughably simplistic. Besides, the system's rewards for eliminating so many Level 9 Warriors would likely propel him to the next level.

Truth be told, Lin Yaoyang wouldn't hesitate to wipe out all these fair-weather mercenaries if necessary.

Yet, out of a sense of humanity, Lin Yaoyang resisted such mindless slaughter. He preferred to grow stronger by slaying Demonic Beasts, resorting to killing people only when absolutely unavoidable. He aimed to spare lives whenever possible.

Facing the mercenaries with a look of fury, Lin Yaoyang addressed Kou Quan, "Haha! Captain Kou Quan, you know exactly who's been blinded by greed. Seeing combat skills on me, you just couldn't contain your avarice. But such greed, you should know, shortens a man's life."

Upon hearing Lin Yaoyang's words, Kou Quan's expression shifted as he quickly retorted, "Lin Yaoyang, are you still trying to slander me? Surrender now, or I'll give you one chance: leave the Ghost Faced Demonic Spider's Demonic Core behind and get out of here. Do that, and we'll spare you."

After his declaration, Kou Quan adopted a facade of moral superiority. Lin Yaoyang, infuriated to the point of laughter, responded in a stern voice, "Kou Quan, it seems you've truly lost all shame!"

After finishing his statement, Lin Yaoyang swiftly stepped aside to reveal his tent, now marred with three slashes courtesy of Kou Quan and his two accomplices. "Haha! This is your captain's handiwork," he said, gesturing to the cuts. "He sliced open my tent in the dead of night." Lin Yaoyang then pointed to three bamboo tubes discarded on the ground and added, "These tubes were used by Kou Quan to spray M medication into my tent. I was lucky to notice in time; otherwise, I might have been knocked out by the drug. Who knows if I'd even be able to stand here and talk to you now? Your Captain Kou Quan sure has a nerve! As soon as he saw someone emerge, he hastily framed me and rallied you to attack and eliminate me. Are you really so naive to not see that you're merely pawns in Kou Quan's game?"

Kou Quan's face darkened as Lin Yaoyang spoke, and he retorted sternly, "Lin Yaoyang, don't throw around baseless accusations. How would I know how those holes got in your tent?"

Lin Yaoyang let out a cold laugh and shot back, "Oh, really? Then enlighten us, Kou Quan. Why were you wandering around with your companions in the middle of the night if not to harm me? Or is it that... you have a taste for men?"

Lin Yaoyang's mockery struck a chord with the mercenaries, giving them pause for thought. They realized that Kou Quan hadn't allowed them any time to consider the situation, rushing them to subdue Lin Yaoyang without even letting him speak—a move that now seemed highly suspect.

Moreover, Lin Yaoyang's sonic combat technique was vastly superior to Kou Quan's Lion Roar, making it plausible that Kou Quan coveted his power.

With this new perspective, the more astute among the mercenaries began to reassess their leader. They had simply lacked the time to reflect earlier, but now, as they regained their composure, their gazes towards Kou Quan shifted subtly.

Kou Quan could sense the change in the air, the looks from his men growing increasingly uneasy.

Undeterred, Lin Yaoyang pressed on, "And another thing—do you really think you can take me down, even if you all gang up on me? Hehe!"

Lin Yaoyang refrained from boasting, simply observing the crowd before his gaze settled back on Kou Quan. With an icy tone, he declared, "Kou Quan, your end has come. No one will be able to save you today."

His proclamation hung in the air like a death sentence. Kou Quan's complexion paled upon hearing it, for he was well aware that Lin Yaoyang possessed overwhelming strength, enough to crush him with ease.

Lin Yaoyang was known for his merciless nature, not one to show leniency. Kou Quan had no doubts that Lin Yaoyang would make good on his word.

An ugly grimace twisted Kou Quan's features as he found himself at a loss for words, unsure of how to even begin mounting a defense.

With a mocking laugh, Lin Yaoyang taunted, "What's the matter? Cat got your tongue? Go ahead, keep slinging mud at me! I could have easily taken you down along with those other two just now. I simply chose not to act. Did you honestly believe I feared your so-called strength? You have no strength to speak of!"

"You're nothing but a one-punch disappointment!"

Lin Yaoyang paused briefly, then enunciated each word deliberately. Kou Quan's face was a canvas of shifting shadows, reflecting his inner turmoil. The mercenaries, who had previously confronted Lin Yaoyang with bluster, now fixed their intense gaze on Kou Quan.

Rooted to the spot, Kou Quan seemed to wrestle with his resolve until, unable to contain himself any longer, he erupted with a defiant bellow, "Ah! I'll stake everything on this fight!"

With that, Kou Quan lunged forward, shooting towards Lin Yaoyang like an arrow released from its bow.

Unmoved, Lin Yaoyang watched as Kou Quan's futile attack approached. The black light coalescing in his right hand was a stark omen of the inevitable. A flicker of despair crossed Kou Quan's eyes, bracing for an end he knew would be far from pleasant. He could only hope that the black light would grant him a swift and painless demise. With a look of resolute determination, he charged at Lin Yaoyang.

Lin Yaoyang remained stoic, channeling the profound secrets of his cultivation technique, invoking the Power of the Ant King to fortify himself.
