C6 Seeking Riches in Danger!

Thankfully, the mutated zombie wasn't quick on its feet.

The horde of zombies trailing Jiang Loong sprang into action. They weren't just the ones that had been there before; new zombies were steadily streaming out of the town, trailing far behind the pair of mutated zombies.

Like a surging tide, the zombies advanced, their numbers swelling to over ten thousand.

The zombies previously in pursuit of the group were merely a fraction of this mass!

Jiang Loong thought to himself, "Damn! With this many zombies, could they be planning to storm the base?"

He glanced at the Evolver, whose escape route led straight to Base City.

Jiang Loong swore under his breath, "What an idiot! He's going to draw all those zombies right to Base City!"

After a moment's consideration, he commanded the Level 9 zombie to veer off in a different direction.

As they changed course, the zombies that had been tailing Jiang Loong gave up the chase.

Their target was crystal clear.

"These zombies are definitely heading for Base City," Jiang Loong confirmed.

This group numbered around ten thousand, a mere tenth of Base City's population, yet the real issue lay in the fact that anyone bitten by a zombie would turn into one.

The thought of his comrades-in-arms, who had fought zombies side by side with him, potentially turning into zombies and attacking him, filled Jiang Loong with urgency.

It was downright unfair.

Such incidents had occurred more than once in the last three hundred years. A Base City with over three hundred thousand inhabitants had once fallen to an onslaught of just over a thousand zombies!

Jiang Loong had the Level 9 zombie set him down, then he cautiously tracked the rear of the zombie throng.

He checked his Elimination Space. His storage bag now contained ten zombies.

Among them were six males, including Level 9, Level 8, Level 7, Level 6, Level 5, and Level 3 zombies. Apart from Tongtong, there were three female zombies at Level 4, Level 3, and Level 1.

Jiang Loong released all the zombies except for Tongtong, both Level 9 and Level 1. He instructed them to pursue the zombie horde, relentlessly attacking those at the rear.

Then, Jiang Loong gathered all the downed zombies into his space.

Although Jiang Loong refrained from launching a direct assault on the horde of zombies, his straightforward and forceful strategy proved to be more efficient. He was quite fond of this secure approach, as it didn't draw the attention of the leading mutated zombies.

Yet, this tactic was only safe to a degree. He needed to remain vigilant at all times, for a single lapse in concentration could lead to detection by the mutated zombies.

Jiang Loong understood the adage that fortune favors the bold, so he proceeded with utmost caution.

Unbeknownst to any humans or zombies, the numbers at the rear of the zombie horde were gradually dwindling.

Naturally, the zombies at the back of the onslaught were of a very low level, all at Level 1, with some not even reaching that rank. This was an ideal situation for Jiang Loong!

In no time, he managed to synthesize a Level 5 male zombie.

Armed with this Level 5 male zombie, the subsequent tasks became significantly easier.

He combined this Level 5 zombie with a few other male zombies and instantly created a Level 10 male zombie!

However, now Jiang Loong had only this single zombie at his disposal.

"I need to synthesize another Level 10 male zombie. Even though it requires over five hundred Level 1 male zombies to create one Level 10 male zombie, I must acquire another Level 10 male zombie to have a mutated zombie in my possession," he reasoned with clarity.

Given that he already had the necessary materials for synthesis, he was naturally inclined to continue the process.

Jiang Loong was making commendable progress with his synthesis. After half a day's work, he had a Level 7 female zombie. It seemed that by synthesizing just one more Level 7 female zombie, he could elevate Tongtong to Level 9!

To create a Level 7 female zombie, Jiang Loong needed sixty-four Level 1 female zombies. Fortunately, the zombie tide was teeming with female zombies.

As Base City came into hazy view, Jiang Loong successfully synthesized his second Level 7 female zombie. He merged the two Level 7 female zombies, resulting in the emergence of a Level 8 female zombie. Without hesitation, he synthesized this Level 8 female zombie with Tongtong.

Tongtong ascended to Level 9!

Now at Level 9, Tongtong appeared even more striking.

When Tongtong was first turned into a zombie, her skin began to show all the telltale signs of the undead. Her face was marred with greenish-black mottles and protruding veins. But now, Tongtong's skin had become noticeably more radiant, and those veins had vanished without a trace.

To the casual observer, there was no indication that Tongtong was a zombie at all!

"I need to level up Tongtong quickly! That way, no one will be able to tell she's a zombie," Jiang Loong mused.

On the outskirts of Base City, a massive horde of zombies was amassing.

Jiang Loong trailed the horde from a distance and noticed a continuous influx of zombies joining the throng.

It was clear that their numbers had swelled to well over ten thousand, possibly even surpassing twenty thousand!

This was Jiang Loong's first encounter with such a spectacle, and he couldn't help but speculate on how the inhabitants of Base City would handle this threat.

But with such towering walls, it seemed unlikely that the zombies would easily breach them.

Memories of pre-apocalyptic zombie films like World War Z surfaced in Jiang Loong's mind, with their vivid scenes of zombies scaling walls.

Surely these zombies couldn't match that level of ferocity? After all, scaling walls was a simple feat for the undead in those movies!

Base City was eerily silent, not a whisper escaped its confines.

Yet, led by the mutated zombies, the zombie horde didn't need any auditory cues to mount an assault on Base City!

As expected, it wasn't long before the zombies, as if energized by an unseen force, began to scream and surge wildly towards the city!

Gunfire erupted from within Base City in response.

Zombies were mowed down in droves, only for the next wave to trample over the fallen and meet the same fate.

But the sheer number of zombies was overwhelming, and they weren't easily dispatched by bullets alone. They would rise and advance once more.

In no time at all, the relentless tide of zombies had reached the very foot of Base City's walls.
