C11 Too Meddlesome

For a moment, Jin Xiaolu wondered whether Qin Yanfei was just too dedicated to her career or if she was perhaps looking down on her own sister.

By the time they went home at around nine o’clock that evening, Yanxi’s face was swollen to the point that it resembled a puffy bun.

Her cheeks were tender with pain.

She had never imagined her sister to be capable of such force.

It wasn’t as though she could say anything about it anyway.

Yanfei had only been following the script.

The day had been so busy that Yanxi thought like she might collapse from exhaustion any second.

She reached the door of their house and had to lean against it for a moment and take a deep breath.

Then she straightened and weakly entered the pass code.

“Code error,” the machine prompted.

Yanxi immediately felt like a bucket of cold water had been poured over her head.

She stood staring at the keypad, stunned.

Her heartless husband had locked her out once again.

She had slaved away during the day and this is what she would come home to?

Faint voices drifted over from the other side of the door, one male and another female.

The image of the sexy lace corset popped up in Yanxi’s mind, and a deep sense of betrayal pierced through her body.

Her chest tightened, and she struggled to breathe properly.

She rapped on the door, softly at first, as though afraid of the response she might get. “Bai Tiancheng, are you in there?”

Even she could her the despair in her voice.

Inside, it went quiet.

Then a woman’s laughter chimed into the air.

“Qin Yanxi, are you sure you want to come in?” Tiancheng asked through the door.

“Do you really want to see me make love to another woman right in front of you?

I would gladly oblige you, you know, if this is what it takes to make you finally give up.”

His voice was full of contempt.

“For how long are you going to humiliate yourself like this?

And for how long are you going to keep coming to this place? This is my home!”

Yanxi’s breathing grew heavy with every word he spoke, and her hands clenched into fists at her sides.

Tears trickled down her swollen face, making her gasp and sob at the sudden prickle of pain.

Here she was, shut out and rejected by her husband while he engaged in hedonism with some other woman inside her own house.

Then sound of sensual moans and male grunts came, and Yanxi had to cover her ears before fleeing frantically from the scene.

Still, the sounds followed and haunted her, echoing repeatedly in her ears.

She eventually found herself by the side of the road, where she squatted miserably with her palms pressed firmly against her ears.

To an ordinary passerby, she looked like a madwoman who had just escaped from an institution.

At some point, her anger began to override the hurt, and she tried to talk some sense to herself.

‘Qin Yanxi, enough already! A man like that is not worth breaking your heart over again and again. He isn’t worth your tears!’

And yet, the tears kept coming.

Then the sky opened and it started to rain.

It covered her like a light blanket at first, but it slowly gained force until it pelted her small, weak body.

Even so, she stayed there, unmindful of her pathetic state.

Then out of nowhere came the screech of brakes scraping against the asphalt, breaking into her consciousness.

A dark Maybach halted a few inches from where she cowered.

The back door opened to reveal a familiar, regal figure, his deep blue eyes boring into her soul like hunter who had captured his prey.

She stared back at him, shocked and bewildered at his sudden appearance. “Tang Zhengxun?”

‘What was he doing here? Wasn’t he supposed to be in Japan?’

“Get in,” he said in a tone that brooked no argument.

Yanxi remained in place, unable to make sense of what was happening.

His jaw tightened at her lack of reaction.

His patience was running thin, but his face remained expressionless when he spoke again.

“I’ll give you three seconds. One... Two...”

He glared at her as he counted, making sure she understood what he wanted her to do.

‘If eyes could kill,’ Yanxi thought, ‘I would probably be riddled with holes by now.’

She realized then that he was about to count three.

“Wait, I’ll go! I’ll get in the car!”

She jumped to her feet and scooted beside him at the back seat.

She had nowhere else to go; what reason did she have to refuse an offer to take her in?

Not that she thought she could refuse such a powerful man to begin with.

Tang Zhengxun nodded at his chauffeur through the rear view mirror. “Drive.”

The car zoomed into the rain and disappeared from that neighborhood.

“Qin Yanxi,” he said, turning to her with a forbidding scowl.

“Wipe those worthless tears away.”

Yanxi looked affronted by his comment.

“Mr. Tang, don’t you think you’re being too meddlesome?”
