C18 Confrontation

Yanxi was almost bursting with tears of frustration.

She was aware that Tang Zhengxun was not a man who played by the rules, but she wasn’t willing to dive into his games without even the slightest resistance.

Especially when they both knew that she was just going to be another fleeting whim for him.

He tipped her chin upward and pinned her with his menacing eyes.

“You are my woman now, so I am the only one allowed to touch you. Everybody else is forbidden to taint anything of mine, Bai Tiancheng most of all!”

He let her go just as abruptly as he had pounced on her.

He had turned to the door and was about to make his way out when they heard the passcode prompt from the security system.

“Code Error. Please try again.”

Yanxi paled and she hurriedly grabbed his hand. “Don’t!”

He glanced at her briefly, then his lips slowly curved into a meaningful smile.

Of course he understood this sudden predicament they were in.

Here was the lady of the house, alone with another man, while her husband was continuously trying to get past the door.

“What’s wrong?” he mocked, his eyebrows raised. “Are you worried Bai Tiancheng would find me with you?”

Her grip on his hand grew tighter. She couldn’t afford to let him go while she racked her brains on what to do next.

And then— “Why don’t you hide somewhere first?”

As soon as the words left her mouth, Tang Zhengxun’s eyes flashed at her with a glare so sharp she had to swallow in fear.

His handsome face turned guarded, like something had shut down inside him and a massive wall had been dropped between them.

“You care about that man that much?”

Yanxi didn’t answer and continued to plead with him.

“Just hide first and I’ll figure things out later, okay? Come on, he might guess the right passcode anytime now!”

Because the fact was—and she berated herself for this oversight—she had changed the code back to the one before Tiancheng had switched it to her sister’s birthday.

Tang Zhengxun turned on his heel so he was now fully facing her. “Let me out, or let him in. Make your choice.” His tone made it clear that there was nothing she could do to sway him.

Yanxi was practically jumping out of her skin at this point.

“Tang Zhengxun, I’m begging you, all right? I don’t want him to see us together, or he will definitely twist the narrative and accuse me of cheating! If that happens, I just know he’s going to take everything from me and send me away empty-handed. It’s not like I want anything from that bastard, but I refuse to give up this house! It's the last gift my mother left me before she died.”

She was adamant about it, and even Tang Zhengxun could see the firm resolve in her stance. The look in his eyes mellowed; he gave the house an indifference once over.

Then he casually asked her, “Which one is your room?”

For three full seconds, Yanxi only blinked at him in stunned confusion.

But then she gathered herself and smiled before pointing upstairs. “The first room on the left, the one with the pink door.”

He promptly walked to the direction she had given, not even needing any further prodding.

It was quite surprising to see this man let go of his pride without much fuss.

He did take his time getting to his destination, though, and Yanxi held her breath until he finally disappeared behind her room.

And just in time, too, because she had barely sighed in relief when the system prompt came: “Passcode correct.”

The door was thrown open, hitting the wall with the force of its trajectory.

It revealed a seething Bai Tiancheng, and his eyes immediately zeroed in on his wife.

She squared her shoulders and held her head high, dismissing the mild panic that was thundering in her chest.

“Who gave you permission to change the password?” he asked in a vicious voice.

Yanxi scowled at him and said nothing. She pivoted and walked away from the foyer.

A familiar ached was throbbing at her chest, an ache that had come upon seeing Tiancheng’s face.

Without another word, he changed into his house slippers and trudged over inside.

He laid himself out on the couch, looking weary and incapable of any further argument.

“Get me a glass of water.”
