C4 Remember My Name

Tiancheng's words were quickly followed by the grumbling of a female voice. "Babe, who's calling you so late in the night? Come back to bed, I'm exhausted."

And then the call disconnected.

Yanxi froze, the phone still pressed against her ear

as tears silently streamed down her face.

Her grip tightened until her hands shook.

Then out of nowhere, her stomach began to churn violently.

She quickly got to her feet and searched for the nearest bathroom, stumbling and groping her way through the club.

The hallways felt endless and her consciousness grew more muddled with every heavy step she took.

Still, the tears kept coming, even as the ache in her stomach grew until her entire body felt sore.

She finally came upon a door and burst inside without another thought.

The people in the room were immediately on their guard, stunned into wary silence by her sudden entrance.

Yanxi looked around in a daze.

The place was dimly lit, giving it a subtle, mysterious vibe.

Its occupants were all men, all dressed in black, and all lined up neatly against the wall as they looked at her with the same cold expression.

More importantly, they were all armed. But Yanxi was too far gone into her drink to notice that their guns were all aimed at her chest.

It would have taken one simple command and she would be riddled with bullets on the spot.

Something did catch her attention, though—a man. He was standing a little farther back, toward the darkened side of the room. He was clad in black, too, but she could immediately tell that he was very good-looking.

The atmosphere in the room only served to punctuate his beauty, lending a dangerously seductive edge to his appearance.

Yanxi found herself a little awestruck, despite having seen and dealt with her fair share of handsome men in the entertainment industry.

The man's eyes, in particular, held a sharp glint not unlike that of a hunter locking in on his prey.

And yet at the same time, they promised hidden, unfathomable depths beneath the surface.

He had a tall, straight nose and thin lips that were raised ever so slightly at the corners.

His smirk was loose and unassuming, but there was a faint menace to it that could send an innocent passerby shivering in fear.

Simply put, he was an enigma.

And those sharp eyes were currently fixed on the drunk, uninvited guest who had barged into the room.

His gaze pierced through her, and leaving her feeling vulnerable and exposed.

She grew conscious of his scrutiny, shaking her senses into an abrupt sobriety.

"I am so, so sorry. I was just looking for a washroom, I... I think I got lost."

The man glanced at one of his subordinates, who immediately came forward. "Miss, the bathroom is this way."

Strangely enough, she was helped into facilities within the room instead of the public ones out on the club's main floor.

Still intoxicated, Yanxi ignored the warning bells ringing faintly inside her head. Her immediate concern was to relieve the pain in her gut.

She rushed into the bathroom, knelt in front of the toilet, and hurled.

She puked and puked until she felt like she might vomit all of her internal organs out of her body. Her stomach calmed down eventually, but it was quickly followed by another bout of crying.

Bai Tiancheng was like a piece of ragged blade lodged inside her heart, constantly twisting and wounding her.

"Bai Tiancheng, you bastard!"

she cried out in frustration, venting all her emotions inside the bathroom.

"How can you do this to me? You cruel, heartless jerk!

I loved you so much! I loved you so much... Bai Tiancheng!"

Yanxi curled into a fetal position beside the toilet, sobbing and whimpering until her voice turned hoarse.

She wasn't sure how she left the toilet, but she later found herself back in the main room, tottering in the direction of the bar counter. She picked up a bottle of rum and drank it straight before anyone could stop her.

She knew she already had more alcohol than she could ever hope to handle, but she was still hurting. If she wanted to be numb to the pain, she would have to drink some more.

No one came over to stop her, even though it was obvious that she was being much too excessive.

The enigmatic man from earlier leaned back against the large chair on the other side of the room, his long legs crossed in front of him. One elbow was perched on the arm rest, the tips of his fingers touching his temple as he cocked his head to the side and observed the glorious picture before him.

A wicked, wanton smile was dancing on his lips.

Anyone with a proper common sense would have instantly recognized the threat it held and fled,

but Yanxi was devoid of any common sense at the moment, proper or otherwise.

And so, instead of running, she gave in to temptation and approached him. All too easily, Bai Tiancheng's face faded from her vision and was replaced by the man looking at her like she was a scrumptious dessert he couldn't wait to devour.

"Who are you?"

she asked with a frown.

The man's smile slowly widened. "I am Tang Zhengxun. Make sure you remember my name."
