C3 Hunting the Prey

Regrettably, Lin Yuan's brow remained dry, yet fear gripped him tightly.

He longed to flee!

But time had already betrayed him!

Among them lurked a Level 2 Demonic Beast, and with his speed, outrunning it was a futile dream.

What to do?

What could he possibly do now?

Anxiety churned within Lin Yuan as he watched the demonic beasts on the system map draw nearer.

With no other refuge, he resorted to scaling the tree behind him!

His ascent may have been sluggish, but he reached the canopy just in time, instinctively holding his breath and vigilantly scanning his surroundings.

From three directions, three demonic beasts approached.

Each was distinct: a Flower Snake as thick as an arm, another with a long snout resembling a pangolin, and the last, a creature akin to a civet cat.

The trio clashed almost instantly!

The civet cat's gaze locked onto the other two beasts, unyielding.

The beasts stiffened; the Flower Snake coiled defensively, eyeing the civet cat as a formidable adversary.

The pangolin, meanwhile, edged backward, seemingly seeking an escape route.

This tableau clarified for Lin Yuan that the civet cat must be the Level 2 Demonic Beast; the others wouldn't cower otherwise.

His decision to climb and conceal himself was a gamble.

He wagered that upon encountering each other, the beasts would turn to conflict!

It seemed implausible that all three would fixate on him while ignoring one another.

Lin Yuan's gamble paid off.

Perched atop the tree, he remained motionless, silent, his gaze transfixed on the scene below.

The civet cat advanced towards the Flower Snake, its arched back signaling readiness to strike.

At last, as the pangolin withdrew, the civet cat pounced!

Like a fleeting shadow, it closed in on the Flower Snake, claws outstretched, and struck with force!

But the Flower Snake was swift, too, its head raised, striking back at the civet cat with equal ferocity.

Unfortunately, the Dragon Li's speed was simply too swift; the Flower Snake stood no chance against it.

After only a brief observation, Lin Yuan was certain—the Flower Snake was doomed.

Hoping for a mutual defeat was out of the question. Lin Yuan had no choice but to quickly search for an escape route.

Having just consumed a Malu, he gained an additional 0.1 available attribute points, which he promptly allocated to his speed without hesitation.

Under different circumstances, he would have boosted his attack, but with an imminent threat, even a slight increase in speed was beneficial.

Once he added the points and ensured his body was functioning normally, Lin Yuan's gaze returned to the ground.

By now, the civet cat and the Flower Snake were locked in a struggle.

The civet cat clamped its jaws around the Flower Snake, whose lengthy body was coiled tightly around the civet.

Yet, Lin Yuan was aware that the Flower Snake had breathed its last, while the civet cat was faring well and could easily break free with a bit of effort.

Both parties wounded?

Not a chance.

"I really shouldn't have been so irrational," Lin Yuan mused silently, scanning the canopy for an exit.

"The system has detected a Level 1 Demonic Beast approaching from three hundred meters away!"

"Again?"

Caught off guard, Lin Yuan quickly suppressed his impulsive thoughts and resumed his stealthy stance.

The system's alerts continued as the Demonic Beast drew nearer.

Lin Yuan caught sight of the rapidly approaching creature.

A yellow fox, incredibly swift, had taken cover in a nearby thicket, stealthily observing the civet cat.

Upon noticing the civet cat entwined by the Flower Snake, the yellow fox wasted no time and charged!

Bold indeed, the fox didn't hesitate to strike at a Level 2 Demonic Beast.

The approaching fox eventually disturbed the civet cat.

Releasing the snake's head, the civet cat looked up at the oncoming fox and let out a sharp, menacing roar.

The civet cat arched its entire body, desperate to shake off the entanglement of the Flower Snake.

Despite the Flower Snake being dead, its body instinctively coiled around the civet, thwarting the cat's initial attempts to escape.

When the civet cat finally tried to break free, it was too late.

The yellow fox had charged forward and leapt, lunging ferociously at the civet!

Mid-leap, the fox's slender mouth gaped open, snapping viciously at the civet cat's neck.

A series of shrill, panicked meows echoed through the air!

Lin Yuan watched in stunned silence from above, never having imagined that the civet would actually fall prey to the fox's bite.

In that moment, the fox clung to the civet cat's neck, its jaws locked tight, while the civet was still ensnared by the Flower Snake.

Constrained by the snake, the civet couldn't mount an attack, which was the only reason it could have been overtaken by a mere level one fox.

The civet cat fought desperately to wriggle free from the Flower Snake's grasp!

Seizing the moment, the fox refused to release its grip. It even started to batter the civet's forehead with its front paws, trying to beat the cat into submission.

Furthermore, it began to rip at the civet's wounds.

From his vantage point, Lin Yuan could see a profusion of blood seeping from the civet's neck.

Clearly, the bite was severe.

The more grievous the wound, the more fiercely the civet struggled.

At last, after a tense struggle, the civet cat managed to extricate itself from the Flower Snake and sprang forward, delivering a powerful blow to the fox's head.

A dull thud resonated as the fox was sent flying.

Yet, just a few meters away, the fox was quick to its feet, crouching low and ready to close in on the civet once more.

Clearly, the fox was not about to concede.

The civet cat, now with a renewed fighting spirit, also crouched, eyes locked on its adversary.

And then, the fox launched itself at the civet once again.

The civet cat let out a piercing screech as it lunged forward!

Midair, they clashed and viciously tore into each other!

Their battle was intense.

The dreadful noise sent shivers down Lin Yuan's spine, and he silently thanked his lucky stars for his quick escape. Otherwise, he might have been the one lying dead.

He kept his eyes fixed on the scene.

The sounds of the skirmish below slowly diminished.

The fox, being the lower level, was no match for the civet cat. Now lifeless, it hung from the civet cat's jaws.

But the civet cat was gravely wounded too. In its dying moments, the fox had bitten and clawed wildly, leaving the civet cat bloodied and with a barely perceptible life force. Still, it desperately tried to drag the fox into the bushes to conceal it.

Witnessing this, Lin Yuan's breath hitched.

Now, with no other demonic beasts in sight and the civet cat critically injured, it seemed on the brink of death.

Should he intervene?

Success would mean his advancement!

Failure, however, could mean bidding this world farewell.

Lin Yuan wrestled with his decision.

Ultimately, as he watched the bloodied civet cat struggle towards the bushes, he steeled his resolve.

In silence, he descended the tree and stealthily made his way towards the civet cat's location.
