C6 The Papers

Lisa was just beginning to enjoy her sleep when she woke up suddenly. Her sleep was filled with noises from familiar voices. She opened her eyes and saw Marie dragging it out with her husband. Lisa sat up and watched the two silently.

"You son of a bitch! You took off for a whole week and lied you were attending a function. Is this your function? Don't tell me you abandoned me for this old cargo. Not even at this time when I am carrying your child. I am sure by now she must have informed you about my pregnancy," Marie yelled.

"You daft! You think the right way to inform me you are pregnant is by coming in here in my absence to shout it at my wife? You still don't get it. Yeah, we had fun, you got what you wanted, and I had my way under your panties, but now? I have moved, I am done!" Alex said meaningfully.

Marie laughed out loud. "You think you have the right to move on when your thing is growing down here? l am sure this isn't the first time you will be stuck."

"What?!" "Yes, you are done with your wife long ago but here you are, stuck with her. Now I am carrying your baby and you are stuck in here too. You have nowhere to run to," Marie said and pointed at her stomach.

Alex was losing his cool. He rushed towards her but restrained himself at the last moment. He said calmly, "How dare you say I am done with my wife? What do you know? I know what you want.. Sex?" Alex scoffed and Marie turned red with rage. She rushed at him and raised her hand to slap him. Alex grabbed her hand in the air and twisted it. "Don't you dare!" He glared and let go of her arm.

"If not sex, is it money? Name your price and get double," he said. "You still don't get it, you are to take responsibility for the child growing in here," Maria smirked.

"What if I say no?.... l am offering you millions. While the offer lasts, can't you just get lost or do away with the pregnancy? Make a choice while I am being nice," Alex responded.

"Is that a threat?"

"Not at all, just a piece of advice and one more thing, I do not like anyone invading my privacy. Moreover, I only brought you home to pick up some documents, you got what you asked for .. and listen, I might have made my wife watch me digging into you, that doesn't mean I will condone any act of disrespect towards her. Let this be the last time you are here to spit nonsense. Now, get your fucking ass outta here!" Alex yelled.

"You are definitely insane. You cocky bastard! I promise you will regret this! No one messes with Marie Tanner and goes scot free. What a bunch of lunatics!" Marie shouted and eyed Lisa as she walked out.

Alex followed after her and told the gateman in her presence. "I don't want her here anymore! Else consider yourself fired."

Alex got back in and Lisa remained quiet. "Lisa, you're not saying anything?"

"Like what?" Lisa asked calmly. "You want me to throw tantrums again? Nah, it's nothing unusual, such is normal with Alexander Peterson," Lisa declared. "At least it is your right to know the truth about all these." Alex said and Lisa laughed sarcastically.

"Truth? What is the truth? I am done with your bullshit! I am not interested in your affairs anymore. It has no meaning to me! You want to know all I want from you? Sign those papers!"

"What are those papers really to you? I tore.." Alex responded but Lisa cut in. "You wanna know? Those papers are my salvation! My deliverance. They are my freedom from this living hell."

"Aren't you concerned that your husband is being blackmailed?!"

"Husband?" Lisa laughed out loud. "Whose husband? The last time I checked, I did not have one. Oh! Marie's? Please go attend to your pregnant wife! Just sign those papers."

"There isn't going to be any divorce. Lisa, I know I have made mistakes that look irredeemable but since it's you, I trust you can forgive me. I loved you and still do, just trust me once more. All I asked for is a second chance... I have already torn the papers."

"You did what?!" Lisa yelled and stood up slowly. "You tore the papers?! How could you?! I won't condescend to this! I will report you!" Lisa yelled and charged towards him.

"Lisa, you are going nuts! Check your actions." Alex said. Lisa laughed, "don't tell me you just noticed I have indeed gone nuts. You turned me into this... Why did you tear the papers?! Do you know what I passed through to get them? Do you know what I passed through after getting them? How could you?!" She screamed.

It was obvious Lisa was in pain. Sweat broke out of her body. She paced the room to and fro and pulled hard at her hairs. She was unconscious of her own actions.

Alex noticed her panic attack was closing in but he could not get through to her. She was mad. It hurt him to see his wife this way. He never knew he had hurt her so much. He thought he could take advantage of her innocence and kind heart but he ended up hurting her in the most cruel way. He could not just standby and watch her fall deep into her attacks. He brought up his phone and put a call through her friend.

Jane drove over almost immediately. She scurried into the living room.

"Alex, what's up?" Jane asked.

"l can't get through to her, she..." Alex said and pointed at Lisa who was at a corner of the room.

Jane saw Lisa and broke loose. "Lisa! It's I." Jane said and moved closer. Immediately Lisa heard her friend's voice, she rose up shivering. "He tore the papers! Alex tore them, the divorce papers," she said shakingly and her eyes were unstable.

"Look at me Lisa! Just look at me. It's Jane. Breathe!" Jane yelled.

Lisa lifted her eyes, her sadness pierced into Jane's soul.

"Jane, he tore the papers, you know that night, I walked out because he refused to sign them, at the bar, the man… he took..." "Lisa!" Jane cut in and hugged her tightly. She felt her body shaking violently and suddenly went slack. "Lisa!?" Jane called out frantically. Her weight fell on Jane and both fell flat on the floor.
