C5 5. Let Me Sleep

The next morning, I got dressed and went to school. It was now an even day, so I had to go to periods 2, 4, 5, and 6.

Santana directed me towards the classrooms and I got through the day pretty well, same introductions and all.

In my second period class, which was AP Chemistry, I was seated next to another student. He was on the shorter side. His height

was 5’10, but he was muscular. He was cold the entire period and pretended I didn’t exist.

Veins were popping out as I grew slightly annoyed by this child’s disrespect.

“Hello, my name is Helix.”

Ignored.

“What’s your name?”

Ignored.

“Hey, can you help me with this equation?”

Ignored!

‘I’m going to kill this kid pretty soon. I’m going to fucking do it.’

At this point, I dropped my respect for this person and said flatly, “Oi, it’s rude to ignore someone’s plea of help and

introductions.”

I waited to see his reaction, but there was none.

“Kid, respect your elders. You know that much, don’t you?” I teased.

He tensed up for a fraction of a second, but there was no way in hell that I wouldn’t see it.

‘A reaction, eh?’ I smirked internally.

“You seem to have something to say, am I right?”

He turned to glare at me, eyes filled with ridicule. He soon turned away, though.

‘Whoooo, If looks could kill.’

Chemistry put me in quite the sour mood because one, it had math, and two, my supposed-to-be lab partner was a total prick.

Next was my AP English class. Santana directed me towards it since we both had the same class.

I was seated next to Sarah this time, and she explained to me what topic we were on. I got it easily, and finished my work smoothly.

English was such a nice class. I personally enjoyed it because it was more quiet than the other classes.

The bell rang for our 5th period, and we all left the classroom.

I had memorized the building’s structure by now and knew where my fifth period was.

It was a Tuesday, so we were playing Tennis. We played sports that had the same first letter of the day. Mile Monday, Tennis

Tuesday, etc.

I’ve never played tennis in my life, so this was a learning experience for me.

We were paired in groups of two, going against another group of two. The school wasn’t filthy rich, so they didn’t have a court for

each of us.

The gym teacher was smart, so he split up the three courts we had and told us to play on the half courts. There were twelve teams

playing, two people per team. While 24 people were playing tennis, the leftover 8 were watching and resting.

The girl, boy ratio was 1:1, so for every boy, there was a girl. The coach paired us like that. I guess it had something to do with

gender equality. We were all given one racket, so none of us had to share.

At the whistle, everyone started playing. Coincidently, I was paired with Melody. Not that I’m complaining, but this might cause

some misunderstandings.

While we were waiting for one team to get tired and leave, Melody went over to talk to me.

“Hey, Helix. Have you ever played tennis before?”

“No.”

“That’s fine. I’ll teach you how to play then.”

She picked up her racket and moved closer to me. I was unfazed, and waited for her to start explaining.

“This is called a racket. You hold it like this.”

She showed me her grip, and motioned for me to copy her.

“No no, it’s like this.”

When I awkwardly put my hands on the grip of the racket, she corrected me and moved my hands to a more comfortable position.

“Good, now come with me.”

She got up and I followed her.

“What you do is swing this at the ball to go over the net.”

I nodded, and she showed me her swing.

I nodded in understanding, and we sat down again.

Not long after she showed me the basics of basics about tennis, a team left the court and we were told to go on.

I was on the left side and Melody was on the right side. The other team had hit the ball and it flew over to our side of the court.

As someone who was extremely careful and aware of others, I kept Melody in my view so I wouldn’t inconvenience her.

She moved and hit the ball. It was sent to the other side of the court. The other team had small trouble receiving it, but they

managed to hit it back. This time, it was sent to my side, so I moved with it too.

It was pretty slow to me, but I couldn’t say that. I predicted the trajectory and picked a good spot to intercept the ball. Once I got

there, I hit the ball lightly back and it had barely gone over the net.

“Nice!” Melody shouted from across the court.

“Thanks. You too.”

She smiled and resumed playing.

We basically played for another 30 minutes with a couple other opponents and then tagged out to rest for the rest of the class.

As per usual, lunch was after gym class. I cleaned myself up and exited the locker room. At the same time, the girls also left their

locker room.

I don’t like to be in big crowds, so I immediately left and went to my sleeping spot. When I left, I felt someone’s gaze on me.

They’re probably wondering if I have friends or where I go every lunch.

The lunch at school is complete trash. It tastes like rubber to me, and everything either has a shit ton of salt, or a shit ton or sugar. I

rest while everyone is hanging out with their friends and stuffing themselves.

I was sleeping peacefully on the east staircase because it was closest to the exit of the school. On odd days, I’d sleep on the west

staircase because it’s right next to the art room, but today, my 6th period class is a free period.

Basically, I can do whatever I want for the last two hours of class, including leaving school.

Melody’s POV:

He’s never played tennis before? But he looks muscular. Well, I can teach him then.

I taught him the basics, and one of the courts opened. We were called to go play. I was nervous because the opponents were quite

adept.

My worry was for nothing because the second hit from the opposite side was shot back by him.

‘YES! We got it away from us!’

“Nice!” I yelled from across the court. I thought that if you compliment others and encourage them, they’ll do better. Helix nodded before continuing to focus on the game.

We played like that for 30 more minutes and had to leave to change our clothes for lunch.

After I got changed, I exited the locker room and saw the boys coming out at the same time. I looked for Helix. He wasn’t that

hard to find. His appearance was quite unique. He had black hair, black eyes, and beautiful white skin. He was also tall, so he

automatically stood out.

Everyone went their separate ways, and I kept looking at Helix. He was alone. I saw him turn his back and walk away from the

direction of the cafeteria.

My gaze lingered until he disappeared from my sight. My friends came behind me and started chatting with me about their love

lives, cute people in their classes, and we made our way to lunch.

Suddenly, the female gym teacher for the 9th grade class asked me to deliver something to another teacher’s room. I’m sure she

had her reasons, so I didn’t ask questions and complied with her request.

“The room is in building S on the second floor. Please bring these to Mr, Murphy.”

“Yes ma’am.”

I took the files she held out, and started on my journey.

“Hey, guys! I’ve got to deliver something to another teacher’s room, so please save me a seat.”

“Okay!”

I may have found the gym teacher’s motive for making me do it and not going there herself. The south side was far!! She got lazy

and made a youthful child such as myself do it for her.

I don’t have any classes in the south building, so I’m not sure where to go. There’s only one staircase though.

‘How troublesome. The students must have a hard time travelling between classes.’

I opened the door and looked down at the files she had me send to Mr. Murphy’s room.

“Oh, so it’s the plans for homecoming and prom. I see, I see.” I said aloud.

I then went up the stairs and went to Mr. Murphy’s classroom. I didn’t have an extremely hard time finding the room, but it took

some time.

“Thank you Miss Melody.” he said, and flashed a smile.

‘Oh, he’s so hot. If he’s with someone, she must be a lucky woman.’

Since there was only one staircase, and I wanted to go to lunch as soon as possible, I pretty much ran to the door.

The door swung open with a bang and I descended the stairs as fast as my legs could manage. As soon as I turned to go down the

second batch of stairs, I noticed someone sitting there and froze.

‘Was that person always there? They look familiar..’

I walked past the person sitting on the stairs. Once I landed on flat ground again, I turned around to see the identity of this person.

It was Helix! He looked tall. He had black hair and was wearing a black hoodie and black joggers with black shoes. His eyes were

closed and he looked peaceful sleeping. The sun was reflecting off of his face, and I suddenly thought of the man I saw running

past my house.

‘No way.. It’s not him, is it?’

I was suddenly caught off guard by a question.

“Like what you see?”

“Ah! Uh…”

Helix looked at me with one of his eyes half open.

‘Why is everyone I’ve met today so gorgeous?’

Helix’s POV:

Ah, what a nice spot. The sun is on my face, but the school is cold. What a nice combination. This is perfect sleeping conditions. I

should sleep here more often.

And with that, I dozed off to sleep. About 5 minutes later, I woke up with the door opening. The person, I assume was looking at

something, said, “Oh, so it’s the plans for homecoming and prom. I see, I see.”

It was Melody's voice.

‘What’s she doing here? Delivering something?’

She then passed by me like I didn’t exist.

I heard the door at the top of the stairs open as she left.

Now that I’d been woken up, I couldn’t fall asleep so easily.

I started to fall asleep again, but then the door at the top of the stairs opened with a bang.

‘Damn this girl.’

I didn’t even need to look to know who it was. Melody was back, and she was probably done with whatever she had to do.

When she descended the first half of the staircase, she stopped at the landing.

‘What the hell is she doing now? Let me sleep.’

She carefully walked past me and stood at the floor. I felt her gaze on me. Gosh, this feels familiar.

She moved closer and I felt her presence stronger.

It’s not that I don’t like her staring at me, it’s just that she is interrupting my sleep. I couldn’t take more of this. It was wasting

every precious second I had to recover my energy.

“Like what you see?” I asked.

I half-opened one eye because I couldn’t bother to look at her with both eyes.

“Ah! Uh...”

“Why are you here?”

“The coach of the 9th graders asked me to deliver something to another teacher. When did you wake up? I’m sorry if I woke you.”

“Apology rejected. I woke up when you opened the door and stuck your nose in the things you were to deliver.”

Her already red face turned a shade redder.

“Hey! That was rude, and I was curious! Don’t blame me for it, and don’t tell anyone about it.”

“Curiosity killed the cat.”

She took her phone out and checked the time.

“Shoot! I have 10 minutes left for lunch!!!”

I didn’t say anything because I didn’t care. It sounds like I’m being rude, but she disturbed my sleep. If there’s something that I

could call a pet peeve, it’s when people wake me up early.

She looked at me once and asked, “Are you going to eat, or did you already?”

“No.”

She heard this and then turned back around to race to the cafeteria.

‘What a troublesome girl. She’s totally different from how she acts at her house.’

The rest of the day passed by smoothly. I went to the apartment right after lunch, and did the homework assigned.
