C6 The Aloof CEO

Jane had learned to fear public opinion as she had experienced its horrors firsthand.

If her colleagues in the company saw her arriving in the CEO's car, it would spawn all kinds of rumors and gossip that could potentially ruin her reputation.

So, when Edwin asked her to use his car to commute to work, she immediately shook her head and refused.

Despite not using Edwin's car, they arrived at the company at around the same time.

As Jane and a group of people waited for the elevator, Edwin was escorted by two special assistants to the CEO's exclusive elevator.

Jane pretended not to notice him, but she felt that it was inappropriate.

So, she greeted the group of people politely, "Good morning, Boss Carter!"

"Morning." Edwin replied indifferently, sweeping his gaze around before walking into the elevator, leaving everyone with a cold back.

However, Edwin's indifference did not dampen everyone's enthusiasm, and they began discussing the new CEO.

Jane did not join in the discussion, but she found it amusing how Edwin's attitude towards public and private matters was so apparent.

She thought of an online term to describe Edwin - the prince charming of the celibacy system.

Once Jane entered the company, she forgot about her relationship with Edwin and focused entirely on her work.

She and a few colleagues from the same department had been busy preparing for Starlight's bidding project, and with the bidding about to start, Jane's work had entered a tense state.

She was so preoccupied that she didn't even have time to eat lunch.

Jane was known in the company for being a workaholic, and no one usually cared if she didn't eat.

But today, when she was so busy that she forgot herself, Edwin called her.

She made sure no one was around before picking up the phone and asking, "What's the matter?"

Edwin was surprised by Jane's response but replied, "Work is important, but you can't go hungry."

Jane blushed, realizing that Edwin cared about her.

She replied, "Yes, I know," but didn't know what else to say.

Edwin didn't say anything more, and Jane said goodbye before hanging up.

Edwin spoke at the last minute, "I'm in Room 1808 of the Lily Restaurant."

Jane nodded. "Then you can eat. I won't disturb you anymore."

"Jane!" Edwin's voice became more serious. After a few seconds, he added, "I'll wait for you."

"No need..." Jane instinctively wanted to decline, but before she could say anything, he hung up.

Jane looked at her phone's screen with a slight frown.

Finally, she sighed and realized that she had no reason to refuse lunch with her new husband.

The Lily Restaurant was an expensive five-star hotel restaurant near the company. Jane rarely went there unless the company invited important customers.

As she arrived, Jane hoped she wouldn't run into anyone she knew.

However, she bumped into Edwin's special assistant, Sienna Henry, who called out to her: "Miss Ronan, Boss Carter asked me to pick you up."

Jane smiled awkwardly and tried to keep up with Sienna Henry.

She and Edwin were a legal couple, but they gave off the feeling of having an affair, which was embarrassing.

Upon arriving at Room 1808, Jane saw Edwin's other special assistant, Luis George.

Edwin took Jane's coat and hung it on a hanger before pulling out a chair for her to sit in.

"Miss Henry and Luis have worked with me for many years. They know about us," Edwin explained.

Jane nodded and glanced at Sienna Henry and Luis a few more times.

The two assistants left the room without saying anything.

Edwin filled a bowl with soup and handed it to Jane.

"Over the years, I've been doing business, so I have some people by my side."

Jane felt pleased that he took the initiative to explain.

She smiled shyly and replied, "Yes, I understand." She didn't want to dwell on Edwin's background.

After all, she only agreed to marry him because she thought he looked good, not because of his family background.

The meal continued in silence. Edwin had received a family education, so he wasn't used to talking at the dining table.

When they finished eating, Edwin said, "In the future, no matter how busy you are at work, you have to eat."

"I will take care of it," Jane replied perfunctorily.

Edwin's eyes darkened under his golden frame glasses. He wasn't satisfied. "From now on, you can have lunch with me," he said firmly.

Edwin's tone was a little domineering, but Jane was good with it. She raised her head and smiled at him. "Thank you for your concern, Boss Carter, but..."

"Boss Carter?" Edwin raised his eyebrows. "Since you called me 'Boss Carter', do you want to hear what the boss, me, have to say to you?"

This man used his identity to pressure her so quickly.

Jane had been rolling around in the business department of Innovation Technology for three years. She was usually a sharp and alert person, but now she really didn't know how to deal with Edwin.

Edwin took the opportunity to continue, "Then it's decided."

Jane did not want to have a "tryst" with Edwin every day at noon, but she could not find an excuse to refuse, so she nodded and agreed.

She even found a weak excuse to escape in a hurry.

Edwin's eyes darkened slightly as he watched Jane's hurried back. His long fingertips subconsciously tapped on the table as if he was planning something.

"Young Master." A woman in her forties or fifties knocked on the door and interrupted Edwin's thoughts.

Edwin raised his head and looked up. His eyes were cold as usual. "What's the matter?"

The woman said, "Are these dishes to your liking?"

Edwin was a little obsessed with cleanliness. He rarely ate outside. However, this Lily Restaurant was under his name. The elegant private room 1808 was specially arranged for him by his subordinates according to his preferences. His food was naturally prepared for him by someone else.

Edwin's diet had been taken care of by this woman since he was young. She knew Edwin's taste the best.

"Prepare two spicy dishes for every meal from now on. Don't add too much spiciness." Edwin did not answer but gave another order.

His eating habits were light, but Jane was spicy. She had never told him about this, but Edwin knew.
