C2 The Bond Unveiled

Ethan Kael’s heart pounded as he processed the giant’s words. **Mate?** His mind reeled, searching for something, anything, that made sense in this surreal nightmare. The towering figure, the oppressive atmosphere, the voice inside his head—it all screamed that this wasn’t normal.

"Mate?" Ethan repeated, disbelief heavy in his voice. His pulse quickened. “What the hell is that supposed to mean? I didn’t sign up for this!”

The giant man, now slightly more humanized by his smirk, gestured toward the door with a flick of his massive hand. “You’ll understand everything once you meet him. It’s time.”

Ethan stared at the doorway, his breath shallow. There was a presence behind that door—he could feel it. His body had already started reacting to something beyond his control. The strange, watery sensation of calm, which had felt so foreign just moments ago, now tugged at him more insistently. It beckoned him forward, soft and cold, seeping into his veins like liquid temptation.

He clenched his fists, resisting. “I’m not going anywhere until you start explaining,” Ethan said, voice tight. “Why is this happening to me? What do you mean by ‘mate’?"

The giant’s patience was wearing thin. His dark eyes flashed with something primal as he spoke. “Your blood has known this for a long time, even if your mind hasn’t caught up yet. You belong to him, and he to you. That’s all there is to it.”

“That’s all there is to it?” Ethan’s sarcasm flared again. “You expect me to just walk in there, meet this ‘Alpha’ guy, and... what? Shake hands, get hitched, run off into the sunset? Because let me tell you, that’s not happening.”

The giant rolled his eyes, clearly unamused. “You’ll stop fighting it soon enough.”

Ethan scoffed. “Wanna bet?”

Before the giant could reply, the door to the room of color creaked open, and the air shifted once more. This time, it wasn’t oppressive or heavy. It was soft, almost welcoming, but with an underlying force that Ethan couldn’t ignore. His muscles tensed involuntarily as his feet dragged him forward, step by reluctant step. The pull was too strong now, and no amount of sarcasm or defiance was going to hold it back.

Ethan’s mind screamed at him to run, but his body had already made the choice. He stepped into the room, and the door closed behind him with a quiet finality.

The room was unlike anything he had expected. Soft light bathed the walls in warm, muted tones, and intricate designs adorned the space, a stark contrast to the sterile reception area he’d seen earlier. It felt... ancient, like it belonged to a time long past. There was an energy here, something primal that hummed through the air.

At the far end of the room stood a man.

**Darius.**

The figure was tall, with an air of command that seemed to bend the very space around him. His dark hair framed sharp features, and his eyes—those eyes—locked onto Ethan the moment he entered. They were molten gold, burning with an intensity that made Ethan’s skin prickle. There was something familiar in those eyes, something that stirred the same liquid sensation that had been coursing through Ethan’s veins since he arrived.

“Ethan Kael,” Darius’s voice was low and smooth, resonating through the room like a force of nature. “I’ve waited a long time for this moment.”

Ethan’s throat tightened, his voice caught between fear and defiance. “So I’ve heard,” he muttered, trying to mask the unsettling reaction his body had to the man before him. “You’re the one messing with my head?”

Darius’s lips curved into a faint smile. “It’s not me. It’s the bond we share.”

“The bond?” Ethan’s voice cracked. “There’s no bond. I don’t even know you.”

“You will.” Darius took a step closer, his presence filling the room even more. “This connection between us, it’s been in your blood long before you knew it. You’re not just human, Ethan. You’re one of us. And I... I am your Alpha.”

The words hit Ethan like a punch to the gut, and yet, at the same time, they soothed something deep inside him that he hadn’t realized was unsettled. His body warmed under the weight of Darius’s gaze, and his resistance wavered.

No. He couldn’t let this happen. He couldn’t just accept whatever this was.

“I don’t care what you think I am,” Ethan growled, his fists clenching again. “I didn’t ask for this. I’m not part of your world. I don’t belong here.”

Darius’s expression softened, but the intensity in his eyes didn’t waver. “You do belong here, Ethan. You’ve always belonged here. You’ve just been kept away, hidden from what you truly are. But now...” He stepped closer, his voice dropping to a near-whisper. “Now you’ve found your way back. And I will guide you.”

Ethan’s heart pounded, his body betraying him as Darius’s words sent a thrill through his veins. The strange sensations—the liquid fire, the calming presence—flared to life once more, as if responding to Darius’s voice.

“What the hell am I?” Ethan whispered, his voice finally cracking under the weight of everything he’d been resisting.

Darius’s gaze locked onto his, unyielding. “You’re mine.”

The declaration hung in the air, heavy with finality. And for the first time, Ethan wasn’t sure if he wanted to run—or stay.
