Promise
Rich:
Chantrea, where are you? I'm at your office.
I:
I'll be there in an hour.
Rich:
What 'in an hour'? Your first day at the office and you're late? I'm sure your dad will be upset.
I:
Calm your tits, Rich. I will just go somewhere.
Rich:
You're tactful, I don't even have breasts yet, so there's nothing to calm me down. Hurry up and they will find you at my place Madam, they might even take back my porsche!
I didn't reply back because I'm already here. I'm sure Adrian will be surprised. I didn't tell him that I'll be visiting him at his office and his house.
I was able to get inside easily because the people here knew who I was.
As I peaked on the door, I saw Adrian sitting in his swivel chair staring intelligently at the paper on his desk. His glasses make him look so manly. The three buttons of his polo are not buttoned, showing his chest. I wonder what would be his reaction when he saw me. He would be surprised for sure!
"Adrian," I said sweetly.
"Chantrea!" his eyes widened when he saw me walking inside his office.
His body stiffened for a second. My head titled at his sudden movement. When his senses seemed to come back to him he grabbed the paper on his desk and put it in the drawer of his table.
"It's nice to see you too, Adrian." I said sarcastically. I expected him to be surprised not shocked.
He stood up and walked towards me. "I'm sorry, it's nice to see you Chant."
He quickly hugged me. "I'm sorry. You didn't tell me that your going here. I didn't prepare."
"It's a surprise, which means you don't need to know."
"Yes but I wish..." I shushed him. "It's okay, Adrian. I won't be long."
His eyebrows furrowed with what I said. "What do you mean?"
My hands softly reach out to his shoulders. "I'm just here to talk about your promised."
I moved my body closer to his and wrapped my arms around his neck. "Do you still remember it?" I whispered.
"Chant do you really need to leave?"
I nodded. "You don't need to Chantrea, you can take up business here in our country. You don't need to go any further."
"Maybe there is another way... Force your daddy, Chantrea. He's an only child so I'm sure he'll allow what you want."
I smiled bitterly. "Adrian... You know my life is already planned before I was born. And you know that im going to America when I finished my primary here, I already told you about this."
He held my hands together. "I know Chantrea. I didn't understand that at the time because I thought it was still a long time before you left... That you might change your mind. Don't leave Chantrea..."
"I don't know how to live my life without you...I will miss you."
"I don't know too, Adrian. And I will miss you more."
He squeezed my hands. "Don't leave so you won't miss me."
"Four years, that's fast." I convinced him.
"You don't know what will happen in four damn years, Chantrea. You might like someone else in America and forget about me!" I removed what he was holding in his hand to put it on both of his cheeks.
"Yes, in four years a lot will happen and change, our feelings should stay the same. That's how it works, Adrian. If you really love me, you'll wait for me because that's what I will do. Time and distance will either break or strengthen us."
He stared at me for a minute. "I will wait for you Chant. So don't give to others what should be mine."
"Yes, Adrian." I smiled.
"Just mine, Chantrea. That will happen as soon as you return." he said smiling.
"I'll give you my virginity when I get back but you should wait until four years before taking it. Good things come to those who wait."
"I know. I love you Chantrea."
"I love you too Adrian. Take care here and no older girls please. You know what happened the last time you're with another one." I chuckled.
He anchored his hands on my waist. "How can I forget that Chantrea?" he said smiling.
I lightly brush my lips on his. He pulled me closer to him.
Are we going to do it now? I don't mind if my first would be at his office. It's sexy and wild.
I can imagine him as the mayor of Riqueza. The handsome honorable mayor and I'm his sexy assistant.
How's that sound?
I jumped when something clink and shattered on the floor. That's not the sound I'm expecting. I turned around to see what it was.
My eyes shifted on the crystal pieces of the broken glass and spilled coffee on the floor.
The girl tried to pick up the broken pieces but she just cut herself making Adrian rush to her. He grabbed her hand, jammed his hands on his pocket and used his handkerchief to clean the blood on her thumb.
"Why did you pick that up?! You knew it would hurt." he exclaimed.
My eyes narrowed at them. I can't clearly see the girl's face because of her hair hanging loosely, covering her face.
The woman noticed my gaze that's why she took her hand away from Adrian. Adrian's face had a hint of annoyance at what he did, but when the woman bowed slightly and looked in my direction, she seemed to realize something.
I raised my right eyebrow then crossed my arms when he turned to me.
"What the hell was that?!" I yelled. Silence filled the room.
I don't know what's more annoying, the stupidity of this girl or Adrian's reaction to what happened.
I strutted towards the girl who was looking down on the floor.
He was just about to kiss me then this girl but in and now it's all ruined because she cut herself. She glanced at my back where Adrian was.
"Did you do that on purpose?" Maybe she has a crush on her and she did that because she's jealous.
"Or your just so fucking stupid that you can't hold the glass right, that it slipped on your clumsy hands?" I rolled my eyes when she started to curl her back.
"You're also dumb for picking up the pieces of broken glass knowing that it's all sharp and it will cut you."
"S-sorry Ma'am," she stuttered.
"Too late, you already ruined my day. You're fired." I stated.
"Chantrea!" he shouted.
"What?"
"You can't fire her, she's my employee not yours."
I turned to the woman. "What's your name?"
She lifted her head slowly. "Huh?"
She's really dumb.
"Name?"
"Chantrea, what are you doing?!"
Glancing at it. "Shut up Adrian."
"You don't need to answer her."
"M-mary R-reyes." I scanned her face. My right eyebrow raised as I bore my eyes on her. She looks familiar.
That curly black hair, oval face, thick eyebrows, long pointed nose and small thin lips reminded me of someone I knew from the past, someone forgotten a long time ago.
My eyes remained on hers.
Those droopy hooded eyes. I can't forget that...
Mary Reyes.
Reyes...
I glared at Adrian when I figured it out.
She's fucking Mary Reyes, the sister of Mariya Reyes.
As Chantrea stood there, a feeling of unease settled in the room like a thick fog, despite the pleasant encounter with Adrian turning sour due to the clumsiness of the woman who turned out to be Mary Reyes. The shards of broken glass and the spilled coffee seemed to amplify the tension that suddenly hung in the air.
Adrian's attempt to placate the situation only added to the unsettling feeling churning in Chantrea's gut. Her gaze remained fixed on Mary, piecing together the connection between her and someone from her past. The realization dawned upon her like a bolt from the blue.
"Mary Reyes," Chantrea echoed softly, the name rolling off her tongue like a ghost from a forgotten memory. Her eyes bore into Mary's, scrutinizing every feature as if trying to unravel a long-buried secret.
Adrian's protests fell on deaf ears as Chantrea's mind raced back to another time, another place. The Reyes family, their entanglement with her own past, and the memories that she had locked away resurfaced, flooding her thoughts with a surge of emotions.
"Chantrea, please, let's talk about this," Adrian implored, attempting to diffuse the tension that crackled between the three of them.
Her eyes flickered between Adrian and Mary, her mind a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. She couldn't ignore the instinctive feeling that something was amiss, a deep-seated intuition warning her of impending trouble.
"I need to go," Chantrea declared, her voice trembling slightly as she turned away from the scene, her heart pounding in her chest. She needed to collect her thoughts, to unravel the tangled threads of her past that seemed to be rearing their heads once again.
Adrian called out after her, his voice tinged with concern, but she couldn't stay. The scent of something unsettling lingered in the air, a foreboding sense that refused to dissipate.
As she stepped out into the corridor, her mind raced with questions and uncertainties. The unexpected encounter with Mary Reyes had stirred up a storm of memories, dredging up secrets and fragments of a past she had long tried to bury.
Her senses tingled, an uncanny feeling whispering that something was about to unravel, something far deeper than a simple reunion between friends. The promise she made to Adrian echoed in her mind, but amidst the turmoil, a new urgency gnawed at her, urging her to uncover the truth hidden in the recesses of her memories.
