C2 Chapter 2: Alpha's Mate

I was walking in the middle of the snowy woods. The snow is over and the sun could be seen shining through the branches of the trees. However, that’s not enough to relieve the cold I feel.

I was wearing a white cloak while carrying a large luggage containing clothes and food on my back. I covered my face in the hood in fear that someone might recognize me as my twin sister.

It's been a week and I didn't expect everything to end like this, where my twins and I got separated. Week passed before I managed to escape from our pack, welp, thankfully.

Alpha Dominn, my Dad, however, have tried to capture me and fortunately, he did not succeed. No matter what Dad does, he will never force me to pretend to be my twin. Yes, I harbored a grudge against him because he shamed me but that doesn’t mean I will be thirst for the position he gave to Freya. Dad can reject me for all I care? I will not be controlled by him anymore.

“Fuck his reputation,” I whispered in annoyance.

Now, my concern for Freya is beyond my reach, especially knowing that she has been wandering for a long time in the Kingdom of Avalonn, where the BloodPearl Pack stands; the enemy of the pack I belong to.

BloodPearl Pack, how can I assure my twin’s safety if people there are known to be the bloodlusts?

That’s why I didn’t hesitate to pack up and run away from the palace. I have to save Freya and the pup in her womb from the BloodPearls.

I said people in BloodPearl Pack and not their Alpha. Yeah, I nodded.

Since I was a kid, I didn’t know anything outside the palace. But it’s different now.

Like I can’t believe I can now able to hear something from people in our pack. And if I was not mistaken, I heard Magnus Haven was popular for being the youngest among all the alphas.

So tell me how can a little boy capture a grown woman like me? Like, really, huh.

I shook my head. People’s basis nowadays on choosing their Alpha seems like only to have a royal blood. They didn’t even think if a little kiddo like Magnus Haven can manage that position.

Wait.

I snapped out and suddenly stopped for a moment. That’s when I saw someone running towards my path. And right after a second, I gasped as I covered my mouth in shock.

“Freya?” I said.

And I wasn’t wrong when I heard her say, “Mia?”

When Freya finally got close to me, my eyes widened and I looked at her from head to toe. She was also wearing her white cloak like mine but she was already covered in dirt and wounds especially on her face.

I looked around. If that’s the case, the territory I’m walking now is the Kingdom of Avalonn? And I’m already in the BloodPearl Pack?

I took off my hood. Oh god, thankfully, my twin sister was now in front of me.

I was about to hug Freya when she suddenly slapped me hard. “How dare you report me to Dad?” she said while anger was heard in her voice.

Holding my face, I looked at her. But I calmed myself down instead and grabbed her wrist, I saw that the black pupmark was still there but I ignored it.

“Let’s go home, Freya,” I begged. “We have to prove to Dad that Lucas is also responsible for this—”

“No!” she answered immediately. “Don’t you see? I’m a rogue now, Mia!”

“Freya, calm down,” I said worriedly.

“Calm down?” she repeated angrily. “How can I calm down in this situation? Tell me, Mia!”

I kept my mouth shut and watched Freya for a moment. Then she worriedly held her forehead and walked back and forth. She looks like she never rests for a day.

“Is there something wrong?” I asked my twin sister.

Freya stopped on walking back and forth. She looked at me. The deep worry that she had been hiding for a while appeared on her face.

Suddenly, she approached me and held me in both hands. “Mia, I think we have a problem,” she said.

A problem? I thought.

“Oh, yeah,” I nodded. “We have to go back—”

“No, that’s not what I meant,” she cut me off.

I looked at her hands holding mine. This is the first time she did that to me. And I don’t know what to feel, now that I feel her hands was shaking.

It must be really a serious matter.

“What is it?” I asked hesitantly.

Freya took a deep breath and said, “I’ve met him, I’ve met my mate.”

I stopped and stared at her. I said, really, as my eyes sparkled on her.

Freya nodded. “And it was Magnus Haven, the Alpha of this pack.”

For the nth time, I stopped, and the smile on my face disappeared when I heard that from my twin sister.

My sister’s mate was an Alpha? And among the alphas, it was Magnus Haven—that kiddo? I repeated in mind before it sinks in.

But a series of howls from wolves echoed in the whole forest. That’s when I’ve felt the coldness on Freya’s hands.

There’s no way they are chasing my twin?!

I looked at her again but she preceded me in speaking, “I ran away so now, Magnus was chasing me with his comrades.” She held her forehead again. “And if he finds out that I got pregnant with somebody else . . . he will kill me.”

I was shocked at what I heard. I was about to respond to calm her down but I stopped when she suddenly looked at me, funny how her eyes went from my head down to my toe. But I couldn’t help but just swallow when a smile slowly appeared on her face.

“Mia.” She held both of my hands again and said, “Be my impostor.”

My eyes widened. “What?!” I said in disbelief.

Does she mean I am going to be her substitute?!

Freya pursed her lips. “Pretend to be me, just for the meantime. Nothing is hard with that right, Mia?”

I swallowed hard and then removed my hands from hers. We both gasped when we heard the wolves howled again, but this time we knew they are near.

They are coming!

I shook my head firmly on Freya. “Let’s run before they could see—”

“No!” she said firmly.

Freya stepped on my left foot intentionally with full force, causing me to scream in pain. But it didn’t end there when she rammed her forehead into my nose.

I felt dizzy as the blood flowed from my nose. I held my nose and screamed out of pain, I was hurt badly!

“I am really sorry, my twin sister.” After Freya said that, I saw her remove the emerald necklace she was wearing from her neck.

I continued to writhe in pain. She took that chance to put the emerald necklace on my neck. With the speed of the event, I didn’t realize I was already wearing it!

“See you again, Mia Eveleigh,” Freya said. She took my luggage and passed me and ran quickly towards the woods.

Freya, wait! I shouted in my mind, but before it came out of my mouth, four wolves blocked my way.

They are white wolves; looking at me ferociously like they would eat me alive.

Because of that thought, my heart pounded with fear and nervousness. I immediately turned back. I thought of running away but I stopped when another group of wolves appeared in front of me.

I looked around. Now, I am trapped.

After a while I felt someone coming up behind me. He quickly pointed a dagger at my throat. I froze when I felt his mint warm breath on my neck.

“There’s nowhere to escape . . . baby,” he whispered in a hoarse voice.

Wait. Is he my twin sister’s mate? Is he the Alpha?

No, tell me he is not—why does he have that handsome and sexy voice?!

Damn it. I should’ve blamed my twin sister. First of all, she’s the one who should be here!

What should I do now? If I tell em the truth that I have a twin sister and it was her who they were chasing, I will just sound like a desperate shit, probably.

But damn it, the way I saw how Freya trusted me and held both of my hands earlier . . . Okay, my twin sister and Lucas hurt me so bad, but I don’t want something bad to happen to their pup. My conscience can’t handle it if I will be the reason why Freya and worst the baby inside her womb will be in danger.

Sh*t.

I came back to my senses when the sharpness of the dagger touched my skin.

But before the man could plunged the dagger into my throat, I screamed and shouted, “Please, don’t! I don’t wanna die! I won’t escape again, I promise!”

When I felt that he had no plan to respond, I spoke again, “Perhaps you wanna make it real-quick, right? Then let’s have sex now!” I said boldly.

I noticed how the wolves looked at each other when they heard that. Then I felt the man behind me stop.

Wait, did I make it worst? Argh, Mia, crap it. I thought.

I quickly bit the man’s wrist hoping to find a chance to run. But I just felt embarrassed when he didn’t even groan in pain, proof that he wasn’t hurt by what I did, so I stopped.

Dang it, bro.

That’s when I felt his anger. He held both of my arms and turned me around. We face each other and the moment his blood-like handsome eyes met mine, I saw how it glowed on me.

I left stunned. It was as if I am seeing flame inside his eyes and I don’t know how it is intimidating and sexiest at the same time.

Oh god. I can’t believe this tall handsome man standing in front of me was Magnus Haven.

He grabbed my collar to bring my face closer to his. His gaze fell on my red lips, he touched it like he was owning a property, and said with a smirk, “Found you . . . Freya.”
