C7 My mate
**Author's POV**
“Secrets?” Elora couldn't comprehend what he was talking about. As far as she knew, she had nothing to hide except the fact that she was reborn. Could Beta Dexter have found that out?
And even if that was what he found out, was it supposed to be a secret? The people started murmuring and Elora facepalmed.
Beta Dexter smirked and walked past Elora, then headed to the podium, wearing a smug look on his face. Elora followed because she wanted to know where all these would lead.
After climbing the podium, he cleared his throat. “People of White Tide Pack!” He called, but they didn't answer. They were only interested in hearing the secret he claimed he had come to expose. He waved that off and continued, “You all know that I've been nothing but a good Alpha to you. I made plenty of things available for you all just like the late Alpha had done, but unfortunately, a little girl came with her devious lies and took that away.” He announced, and their gazes lingered on Elora.
Elora was dumbfounded. She wondered what the heck was wrong with Beta Dexter. Why was the old wolf bent on fighting for what wasn't his? Was it a crime for her to rule now?
“What the hell are you talking about?” Elder Blake asked.
“Allow me to finish before you attack me. This girl you're seeing connived with Elder Blake to strip me of the throne and take over.” He said.
“What are you saying? The throne was never yours to begin with.” Elora snapped, but he ignored.
“Well, I have come to reveal something you'd never believe. I am sure you all understand the ranking of the wolves. The late Alpha and his wife are both Alpha wolves, but it is quite unfortunate that your supposed Luna standing before you now is an Omega…” The people gasped.
Elora's eyes widened.
“Again with this omega talk? What's your problem?” She yelled, but he ignored her.
“Will you fold your hands and allow an omega rule you? You all are better than her in all ramifications. Your ranks are higher than her, so why the heck do you want to take orders from a low ranked wolf?” He snapped, and the people started murmuring.
“Oh my goodness, I can't believe we were about to accept an omega as our ruler.”
“Who knew the king's daughter would be a low-ranked wolf?”
“She doesn't deserve to sit on that throne! She should be laboring like her kind.”
Elora couldn't believe the different things coming out of the people's mouth.
“She's an omega makes no difference. The throne is hers, and she should be given the chance.” Someone defended, but the people shushed her immediately.
“An omega will always remain an omega. Stop defending someone you're better than.”
Elder Blake tried to calm the crowd down, but they weren't ready to listen.
“Dethrone her! Dethrone her! Dethrone her!” They chanted and Elora gasped.
When Dexter saw the look on Elora's face, his heart leaped for joy. If she thought he would give the throne to her that easily, she was mistaken.
Zora was happy within herself because of the latest development. If Elora gets dethroned, she and Lucien might just have a chance. For now, she had to act like the good friend she was. She walked up to Elora and engulfed her in a hug, patting her back.
The people continued chanting, raising their fists up to show their protests. Whenever they shouted, it sounded like a thunderclap to Elora's ears.
Suddenly, everywhere quieted down, and their gazes were fixed in one direction. Elora pulled away from the hug and followed the people's gaze. To her greatest surprise, Damon had climbed the podium and he was now facing the people.
Elora wondered what he was up to.
“Permit me to ask if all of you are dumb!” He snapped and they gasped. He had been trying to put up with their outbursts for a while now, but he couldn't and had to speak. When Dexter came with his stupid claim, he thought the people would at least have some common sense and wouldn't be blind to see what was right in front of them, but he was mistaken because of how they got swayed easily.
It angered him to the core when they turned against the rightful ruler, all because she was an omega. If they weren't sensible enough, he would make them sensible by force.
The people murmured amongst themselves. The reason they had quieted down was because of the cold aura Damon emanated. The moment he climbed the podium, they had to shut their mouths because of the cold chill that traveled around.
“I am disappointed at all of you. How could you turn against your Luna?” He asked.
“Because she isn't fit to rule!” Dexter answered.
“Shut up!” Damon snapped. Dexter opened his mouth to protest, “Not a word from you,” He gave Dexter a deadly look, his eyes flashing amber gold. Dexter got terrified and shut up immediately.
Damon averted his gaze to the people. “Omegas are low rank wolves, I get it, and our Luna is an omega. That doesn't stop her from being the rightful person to sit on that throne. Need I remind you that the daughter of the Alpha and Luna, and who also is next in line to the throne is an Alpha Female? She might be an omega by rank, but she is your Luna and an Alpha wolf.” Damon snapped and the people gasped.
Elora's heart skipped a beat. Was he really defending her? Like, right now?
“What are you saying, Damon? An omega will always remain an omega!” Dexter yelled.
“And that omega is the Luna of this pack. You're only after the throne because you want to satisfy your own selfish desires. Don't think I don't know what you've been up to, Dexter.” Damon asked.
Elora was shocked. So, she wasn't the only one
who knew about Dexter's schemes.
“Why are you bent on defending her anyway? It's not like you're related to her or something, so why?” Dexter snapped.
“Because she is my…” Damon trailed off when he remembered how Elora warned him not to disclose anything about them being mates. He looked at Elora, and she smiled before climbing the podium. If he could risk everything to defend her like that, then she should at least acknowledge him so that all these would end.
“Because we are mates!” She announced and everybody gasped. Even Dexter was shocked and couldn't believe what he just heard. Damon was overjoyed and tried hard to control himself from hugging her right now.
“You're lying.” Dexter snapped.
“Believe it or not, Damon is my mate,” She turned to Damon and whispered into his eyes. “Don't get overjoyed that quickly. I haven't accepted you fully yet,”
