C40 Chapter 39
I can't even read what Ciffer is thinking right now. Trigger slowly knelt down on one leg in front of him and then spoke.
"To my family, to Ciffer's family, to our friends and to you Ciffer, hon..." And then Trigger reached Ciffer's left hand and kissed her back while he didn't remove their eye to eye contact.
"I know, you're wondering why I'm still doing this when we're about to get married in a few months' time it's because I don't want to keep you, my fiancée in the dark anymore. I know everyone especially the showbiz industry had been dying to know who my fiancée is. So, now I am feeding their curiosity. So, Ciffer Gonzales, I am here in front of you, getting down on my one knee..."
Trigger's friend who was called Terrance by Amara came over earlier and then he handed a small box to Trigger.
"Offering this beautiful diamond ring only made for you." And then he opened the small box, held it up in front of Ciffer and I couldn't escape the sight of the ring stone. The guests are whispering and you can really feel the love is in the air that they are saying right now. Almost everyone is thrilled except me.
"Asking you again to be spending the rest of your life with me, in front of our family and friends. Ciffer Gonzales, hon will you marry me?" It was one after the other that my tears were falling as I watched the scene now, I could feel the pain with every beat of my heart. It's like my knees suddenly became jelly-ace due to the extreme softening of it, fortunately I immediately grabbed the high table I was on now. My tears are also crawling towards my neck.
Six months later.
"Son, didn't I tell you that I will do the laundry for you." Mama said with a frown and then she came over to take the brush she was holding.
"Stand up and I'll take care of it." He said rudely to me and then he looked at me from my head down to my stomach as if I was six months pregnant. I just held my breath and did nothing but follow Mama.
"I'm about to finish again, Ma." Mama looked at me and then she sat facing the basin I was washing earlier.
"Angeline, child, how many times do I have to remind you that your pregnancy is delicate? What if you forget again and lift something heavy and then you end up bleeding again. Child, I don't want you to give birth prematurely and maybe what if my grandson happens to you." I bowed down during Mama's sermon.
I have also bled several times in the past few months of my pregnancy. Because I can't avoid not working, I don't want to rely on Mama for all the work. Of course, my mom is still sick and we just brought her together in our small house here in Bario where we moved a few months ago.
He can't be very tired either, especially since he doesn't take medicine regularly anymore, because of the high cost of his medicine and hospitalization as well as my check ups and vitamins, the money I got from working with Trigger has almost been used up. Mama doesn't want me to work because I really shouldn't be tired as that might be another reason to shoot me, which I don't want to happen. Sigh.
But sometimes our neighbor Aling Miranda calls me to sell fish in town with him when his wife can't go with him to sell because they also go fishing on the side line. I caressed my stomach when I felt intense itching, it looked like the baby was playing inside me again.
"Baby it tickles." I told him while I was caressing my stomach and then I sat under a tree not far from where Mama was washing. When I couldn't bear the itching anymore, I lifted the maternity shirt I was wearing and then I scratched my stomach.
"Angeline! You have so many stretch marks, you're going to add more!" Mama likes me. What he said made me snort for a long time. There are many and they are still long, the others are already turning brown but I really can't stop scratching my stomach because it is so itchy.
"If only the Father of your son was here, your son wouldn't be doing anything inside your stomach." I bowed to what Mama said and then I bit my lower lip. Until now, Mama still doesn't know who the Father of my baby is, she asked me two times before, but she didn't get an answer from me.
I'm just thankful and Mama didn't ask me who is the Father of my baby after that. My conversation with Mama was interrupted when Aling Miranda called from our small gate - which was only up to the waist. I told him to come in.
"Elaine, I just wanted to ask your daughter, Angeline, if she would like to join me in selling, because my husband went fishing."
"Oh Miranda pasen -" I interjected in Mama's speech. I smiled at Aling Miranda.
"Alright Auntie! I'm with you. I'll just wear a jacket."
"Angelina Nicole!" Mama likes me. I faced him with a smile.
"Mom! I'll be fine, don't worry." And then I finally entered our house. I immediately took my jacket that was just hanging on the side where my cellphone caught my eye. I just remembered to check it, there is no cell site here in Bario because most people don't have electricity.
It's a good thing that the owner of Mama's hut where we were staying told my life, so somehow we have electricity, that's just at night. But when you're in town, there's a cell site, so I thought about bringing my cell phone to contact Amara.
I suddenly remembered the night Trigger proposed to Ciffer again in front of their family and friends. It hurts so much to watch that, I walked out of the hotel and I didn't even notice that Amara was calling me and she followed me.
