C10 An Ominous Premonition!
Lin Li shuddered, her legs shaking uncontrollably at the murderous glint in Gu Zhiwei's eyes.
The woman before her had a chilling gaze and a menacing demeanor, reminiscent of a vengeful spirit from the depths of hell.
In a haze, Lin Li thought she saw another face, strikingly similar to Gu Zhiwei's.
"No..." she whispered, then, as if suddenly snapping out of a trance, shook her head vigorously. "I've told you over and over, I don't have your mother's belongings."
Gu Zhiwei let out a cold laugh and approached the unconscious Gu Ruoshan, under their horrified stares. She produced a butterfly knife from thin air and traced a circle around Gu Ruoshan's delicate throat. Her pale fingers and the silver gleam of the blade sent an involuntary shiver down one's spine.
"If you don't hand over my mother's belongings today, I can't promise my hand will remain steady!"
"You're insane! A complete lunatic!" Lin Li was both furious and frantic, wanting to intervene but also hesitant.
The jade pendant wasn't hers to give, even if she wanted to.
Seeing the genuine panic on Lin Li's face, Gu Zhiwei's heart sank a notch.
If Lin Li didn't have the jade pendant, then whose hands was it in?
Back then, Gu Ruoshan was just a child, not yet ten years old; she couldn't have been the one to take it.
Could it have been one of the servants who took her to the countryside?
At that moment, Gu Ruochen, rubbing his eyes, descended the stairs and burst into tears at the sight before him.
"Waaaah! You monster! Let go of my sister!"
Gu Zhiwei's attention faltered for a second.
Seizing the moment, Gu Tingchuan charged forward and delivered a powerful kick to Gu Zhiwei's chest.
"Scoundrel! To harbor murderous thoughts against your own sister, I'll put an end to your treachery today, you unfilial wretch!"
Caught off guard, Gu Zhiwei stumbled backward from the blow to her chest, her face contorting with pain as she collapsed, her complexion turning deathly pale.
Clutching her chest, she let out a stifled groan, tasting the metallic tang of blood in her mouth.
As Gu Tingchuan raised his foot to stomp on her chest once more, Gu Zhiwei, withstanding the intense pain, agilely rolled away on the ground, narrowly avoiding the blow. She leaned on the table's edge to pull herself up, her breaths coming in short gasps, her eyes a mix of scorn and sorrow. That kick had irrevocably cut the last ties of affection between father and daughter. From this moment forward, she, Gu Zhiwei, was truly an orphan.
Gu Tingchuan stood rooted to the spot, breathing heavily as he glared at her with fury. "Get out! From now on, you're no daughter of mine! I, Gu Tingchuan, acknowledge only Gu Ruoshan and Gu Ruochen as my children!"
With her head bowed, Gu Zhiwei let out a mocking laugh. "Gu Tingchuan, have you forgotten about your other son, the one cast aside?"
Gu Tingchuan froze, his forehead veins throbbing with anger. "He's not my son. He's the illegitimate child your mother bore from her affair!"
"And that justifies Gu Ruoshan blinding him?" Gu Zhiwei's lips were pressed into a firm line, her gaze icy.
Shock widened Gu Tingchuan's eyes, his voice quivering, "How... How could you possibly know about that?"
He had been convinced that secret would die with him.
With a cold laugh, Gu Zhiwei retorted, "If you don't want your actions known, then you shouldn't have done them in the first place!"
Qin Xiaodie had once fallen for Gu Tingchuan's drunken lies, bringing home Gu Ruoshan, who was barely younger than Gu Zhiwei, as if she were her own. When Gu Zhiwei was four, Qin Xiaodie became pregnant again and gave birth to Gu Zhinan. Yet Gu Ruoshan accused Qin Xiaodie of infidelity.
Lin Li, under the guise of caring for Gu Ruoshan, rekindled her affair with Gu Tingchuan.
