C47 I Want to be with You!(last part)
The man's brow furrowed slightly as he stepped forward to gently pat the elderly woman's back.
Ms. Zhang looked on with concern. "The old lady started coughing early yesterday morning. I called the doctor, and he diagnosed her with a cold. She's been on medication for the past couple of days, but there's been no improvement."
Bo Yandong's lips tightened. "Didn't I give you a prescription a couple of days ago? Why didn't you use it to get the medicine?"
Ms. Zhang's expression became tense as she explained, "I did get the medicine, and it's been prepared, but... the old lady said that the prescription came from Miss Zhiwei..."
She trailed off, not daring to continue.
The man's frown deepened as he regarded her with displeasure. "What's the problem?"
The old lady eased her breath and lifted her hand. "Don't blame her; I'm the one who refused to take the medicine." She clutched at her chest, patting it firmly. "How could someone like Gu Zhiwei, who is utterly uneducated, have any medical expertise? I've been critical of her before, and for all I know, she might harbor resentment and have concocted some dangerous prescription to poison me..."
"Grandma!" His eyes darkened, his voice laced with a chill. "Zhiwei meant well; you shouldn't make such baseless accusations."
"And why not?" The old lady coughed again, her hand over her mouth. "She's ill-mannered and dishonest, even deceiving you by claiming she was the one who brought me back. Just thinking about a woman who spouts such lies infuriates me."
Bo Yandong was taken aback, a surge of irritation flashing in his eyes.
He had not anticipated that despite his own clarifications, the old lady still harbored misunderstandings about Gu Zhiwei.
The man pressed his lips together, choosing not to linger on the issue.
The old lady was set in her ways, her temperament as stubborn as a child's. Unless confronted with irrefutable proof, not even the emperor himself could sway her fixed beliefs.
"Ms. Zhang," Bo Yandong commanded with an icy tone, "prepare a bowl of medicine immediately."
Ms. Zhang glanced hesitantly at the old lady before responding meekly, "Understood."
"What do you want?" Old Mrs. Bo furrowed her brow in displeasure. "Don't even think about it. I'd rather die than drink the medicine prescribed by that woman!"
The man's brow tightened, and a cold glint shimmered in his clear eyes. "Grandma, if you're worried about poison, then I will personally test the medicine for you."
"You—" Old Mrs. Bo stared at him in shock. "Are you using yourself as a threat to protect her?"
"This isn't a threat," Bo Yandong replied, his voice cool and his brow slightly furrowed. "I simply want you to be healthy and well."
Old Mrs. Bo looked at him, a mix of anger and helplessness in her gaze. After a moment, she let out a sigh. "Fine! You get a wife and forget your grandmother. I'll drink it, okay?"
She then grumbled under her breath, "She's just trying to curry favor with you. If she really cared about me, why hasn't she come to visit all these days?"
Gu Ruoshan had been visiting her almost every other day, bringing along numerous nutritional supplements, knowing she wasn't feeling well.
But Gu Zhiwei? Aside from handing over a prescription of little use, she hadn't shown her face at all.
These past few days, her old friends kept asking when they could celebrate her grandson's wedding. She had come up with several excuses, too embarrassed to admit that her granddaughter-in-law was Gu Zhiwei.
She couldn't stand the thought of losing face like that!
She truly couldn't fathom what her well-behaved grandson saw in Gu Zhiwei. It was maddening!
On a weekend afternoon, Gu Zhiwei arrived punctually at the school's computer lab. Chen Xixi and Qin Lang were already there, seated in front of their computers, waiting for her.
The programming competition was a team event.
It wasn't just a test of individual skills; it was also a measure of the team's collaborative spirit.
