C8 An Accident
“Cade? What… what are you doing here?” she asked with that frown still on her forehead as she looked at him.
She didn’t look in any way pleased to see him seeing that she had a look of ‘what is this creep doing here’
“I came here to see you mum, to know you and proba-”
“What did you think this is going to be? Some kind of reunion between ‘a mother and son’? ridiculous!” she moved closer to him and sat on one of the stools then gestured for him to do the same.
“Sit, we are being watched,” she said when he didn’t make a move to do so.
He sat on the stool beside her and faced her.
“What do you need from me Cade?” she asked in a harsh tone.
“I already said it, I wanted to come me-”
“Patricia got tired?” she cuts him off and he frowned at that.
“That was why you left me with her? You never wanted me?” he asked looking so hurt.
“Oh please, don’t play the hurt card on me… I don’t want anyone coming down here to see me. Did she send you here to meet me? If that’s the case, then go away, I don’t want disturbance” she snapped.
“I wanted to know who my real parents were when I found out and my mu- Patricia didn’t tell me that I was adopted, I heard from someone else and confirmed from her” he explained and Lexi rolled her eyes at him.
“Yeah whatever, you have seen your mum now you may leave” she got ready to stand up but he spoke up.
“Who is my dad then?”
“I don’t know, go find him yourself”
“Your words are hurting my feelings.” He said his mind and she looked at him in mock pity.
“Oh Cade, the ever so soft and sensitive Cade. You are too soft for a man, man up and take up how your life is now” she tapped his shoulder and he closed his eyes then put his face in his palm.
“Seriously, you don’t want me around?” he looked at her again.
“You were the reason why my first love who is your dad left me, I had been alone all my life and finally got someone to love me but you came and he left me without looking back, the people I called family left me, abandoned me and I although I had Patricia who has always been there for me but…”
“I… I…” he had no words to say.
“I thought giving you to her would be the best and that is what I did, I did what I had to, to get myself out of that mess, and giving you up was one of the best decisions I ever made so I don’t know why you need to come here to look for me” she shrugged.
“You have a family who cares deeply for you over there in NY so why come look for someone who wants nothing to do with you?” she asked and he looked away from her and to the door.
“I don’t want to hurt your feelings intentionally but you need to just know this, I don’t know what Patricia said to you about me but I don’t want the burden of being a mother or having ‘family’ close to me, I like this life that I am living and I am comfortable with it” she stood up and touched his shoulder.
“Get on with your family, your dad didn’t want you when he found out I was pregnant with you, he wouldn’t want to see… that’s if he is still alive. I had you by accident and if I could go back, I would have…” she chuckled a bit then placed her hands on her hip while he looks at her.
“Patricia did a great job in raising someone well-mannered and really handsome, you should be a heartbreaker and I am glad I left you to her… she is a great mother” Lexi commented then began walking away from him.
“Can I at least have a hug? From my biological mother?” he asked and she stopped and then turned to look at him.
“I’d rather not, go now Cade, I don’t want to have those men mess up a good-looking man” with that she went behind the bar and talked with the bartender before disappearing behind the curtains.
No doubt that he had expected her to be the opposite of happy when he shows up to meet her but never did, he imagine that she would be this harsh and mean to him.
She couldn’t mean those things she said, right? He asked himself and could feel Daniella’s word growing wide in his head.
How could she not want a family around her? Why did she have to be that harsh to him? He had lots of expectations and was really hurt that they all got crushed by her mean and harsh words.
He wouldn’t have bothered coming here in the first place and embarrassing himself. It was clear that she was ‘happy’ like she told him with her life and even if she wanted him around, she would have visited once in a while but she didn’t.
“At least I have a family who loves and cares about me,” he said to himself then tried composing himself before he thought of leaving.
“Are you done brooding kiddo? I will be having really important guests here and don’t need to have the big guy over there throw your ass out” he said and pointed at the door for him to leave.
“Yeah, whatever,” said Juan.
Cade stood up from the stool he sat on and made his way out of the bar then decided to go somewhere to clear his mind.
He stood outside the bar and looked at his left then his right and decided to go in that direction to maybe find a park that he could go to and relax… maybe.
He turned right and began walking but still couldn’t get over what Lexi said to him, thinking of those words made him more hurt and he just wanted to be alone.
Lexi didn’t have the right to be called a mother, she didn’t want that ‘burden’ as she puts it.
His train of thought was interrupted when his phone rang, so he paused to see who it was and saw that it was Daniella calling again.
“Dang! I forgot to put it on silent” he muttered and fumbled to put it on silent.
He began walking and soon heard screams and it looked like they were directed at him because just as he looked up his vision was met with a car coming at him at full speed and that was the last thing he saw before blacking out.
