C5 Chapter 5

She open the door to the cafe in an hurry and went to meet the person standing at the counter.

“excuse me, good day. Am here for the interview” she said breathing heavily. The owner look at her perturbed.

“do you make a mistake? Am not hiring anyone” he said sternly and continue his work. Vienna was confused. She open her phone to check the address sent to her again. Then she went outside the cafe to check again and a woman appear in front of her.

“miss Vienna” Kellie, Alan’s assistant called. Vienna look a her wondering how she knew her name.

“am the one who text you to meet here” she informed.

“oh, good afternoon. I thought I was in the wrong place” she said politely.

“let’s go in” Kellie motioned with her hand and open the door for them. Vienna follow her and they pick a table by the wall to seat. Then Kellie signal for the waiter to serve them two iced juice.

“you are?” Vienna asked curiously.

“am Kellie, personal assistant to Mr Alan Clinton” she answered. Vienna stop in her track for a second.

“Mr who?”

“Mr Alan Clinton. Am here to discuss some business with you on his behalf” Vienna was so surprised.

“what business will there be between her and him?” she thought.

“i think you’ve got the wrong person. I don’t know anyone with that name” she said and stood up to leave.

“you are Vienna Miner aren't you? Mr Alan’s ex-fiancee. Why don’t you wait and listen to what I have to say”

“if this is not about giving a job then I beg to take my leave”

“it might not exactly be a job but there is money involve” Vienna calm down at the word money and sat down again reluctantly.

“i wont beat around the bush. I will just go straight to the point. Mr Clinton wants to rearrange your engagement with him and also it will be fake, just for a period of time” she said.

“rearrange the engagement? And a fake one at that?”

“yes, for a short period of three months and also he wants you to convince his grandfather that you don’t want to get married immediately. Delay the wedding for that period of three months” she further explain. Vienna stare at her pondering on her words.

“why? Because he is now blind so he needs me to help after his so called lover left him?” she asked sardonically.

“am just here to relay his message and it will definitely not be for free. Your mother is sick and needs money for surgery and also your sister needs money for her exams. If you agree to do it then Mr Alan will help take care of your mother’s surgery and also help your sister with her education till any level she wants to read to and you will get any amount of money you want”

“do you spy on me? Of course he is someone who will stoop to that way to get me to agree to his stupid demands” she said and stood up.

“i beg to take my leave” she said.

“call me when you have a rethink about it” Vienna ignored her and hurry out of the cafe. She continue working fast like there is someone chasing after her.

She arrive back home at twelve midnight after searching for job all day. She entered but there was no one at home. She collapsed on one of the two chairs in the room. She was only able to get one job today and the pay is nothing at all. She remove her jacket and pick her phone to call Vanessa but her call was rejected. She wanted to redial it but then she heard the door open and Vanessa entered with Nisan following closely behind her.

“where have you been? We thought something happened so we had to go look out for you” Vanessa said.

“what do you mean where was I? i told you I was going to look for a job” she replied. Vanessa hissed and sat down on the second chair.

“so, is there any success?” Nisan asked.

“yes, am able to get one but the pay is not much” she answered.

“that’s good, have you eaten anything yet? There is a little food in the kitchen” Nisan said.

“what type of job do you find? Where is the place?’ Vanessa interrogated instead.

“why are you asking? A job is a job” she answered neurally.

“you are hiding something. If its somewhere okay then you would have start taking about it” she said not giving up. Nisan also look at her suspiciously.

“okay fine, its a club but its a pretty decent one” she confessed.

“i knew it. You cant work there” Vanessa object

“i also think you shouldn't work there. Remember what happened the last time you work at a clubhouse?” Nisan also said.

“nothing like that is going to happen here. Its really a decent place and I really need the money”

“am against it and that is it. If anything happen to you to then what will happen to our family? You can work anywhere but not there”

“if you insist that I should not work there then where do you want me to get money for you and mother? We have about a week now but we don’t even have quarter the money we need for mom not to talk of you and you want me to quit a job that will be able to bring in money for us. Then what do you want me to do?” Vienna yelled at her.

“is that why you want to sell your body to get money? Do you think mom will be happy when she find out about it?” Vanessa also yelled back. Vienna stare digger at her before she leaves angrily and slam the door after her leaving Nisan with her. Nisan move closer to Vanessa and place his hand on her shoulder.

“you shouldn't have talk to her like that, she is stressed up already about everything…”

“and I am not?” Vanessa snapped at him and snatch his hand away

“do you both think I am not stressed? You shouldn't speak up for her in front of me” she said and turn to leave the house.

“where are you going so late?’ he held her back.

“i want to go get something from the convenience store nearby” she said and shake his hand off then proceed out of the house.

Nisan sighed and turn to go meet Vienna inside. Vienna sprang up to her feet when she notice someone come in but then a look of disappointment was shown on her face when she saw that it was Nisan and not her sister.

“are you disappointed to see me instead of her? I thought you are angry with her. Why are you excepting her to come meet you?” he said and sat down on the bed next to her.

“where did the two of you go today? I know its a lie that you went out to look for me” she asked.

“its not entirely a lie” he answered.

“did something happened?” Vienna asked suspiciously

“then do you really intend to sell your body for money?” he asked also.

“what nonsense are you saying? She just assumed that. But then, maybe the thought cross my mind” she answered in a coltish manner.

“you cant be serious. Why do the both of you have the same manner of thinking?”

“what do you mean? What happened?”

“nothing much but just you know that she is also stressed and pressured by everything going on. The both of you should try to take things easy don’t do something you will regret. Goodnight” he said and stood up to leave.

“where is she?” she asked standing up

“she went to get something from the store” he answered and left. Shortly after Vanessa entered the room and Vienna pretended to be sleeping.
