C13 Chapter 13

Chapter Thirteen: The Brotherhood

The first test was a grueling physical challenge, pushing the recruits to their limits. Rowen's training and determination proved invaluable as he kept up with the demands of the test, never revealing the slightest hint of his true identity or intentions.

Next came the psychological torment. The recruits were subjected to relentless interrogation, their darkest secrets extracted through manipulation and intimidation. Rowen had to tread carefully, revealing just enough to appear genuine while keeping his true mission hidden.

As the days turned into weeks, Rowen endured the grueling trials alongside his fellow recruits. They were subjected to sleep deprivation, sensory overload, and a barrage of psychological torment. Friendships formed, but so did rivalries, as the pressure of survival weighed heavily on everyone. As the tests continued and the recruits were pushed to their limits, Rowen knew that the risks were escalating, and he had to stay true to his mission, no matter the cost.

"Gentlemen, we have reached the final stage of your initiation," Miguel announced solemnly. The tension in the room was palpable. Out of the ten remaining candidates, only five coveted positions remained. A grim reality hung over them: they would have to fight each other for those coveted spots.

Murmurs of disbelief and uncertainty rippled through the room as the men processed the cruel twist of fate before them. Miguel's eyes scanned the room, his gaze unyielding.

"The rules are simple," he continued, his voice cutting through the uneasy murmuring. "Each of you will be paired with an opponent. You fight until one of you lies dead. No exceptions."

The room fell into an eerie silence, broken only by the shuffling of nervous feet. The gravity of their situation weighed heavily on their hearts.

"If you're not satisfied with this arrangement, the exit is wide open," Miguel added with a chilling undertone. "But if you choose to stay, know this: you fight to the death to secure your position."

A few minutes passed in agonizing silence. No one dared to speak against the ominous reality laid out before them.

"Very well," Miguel said, his voice unwavering. "It seems you've all made your choice. Let the battles begin."

Lucas Alvarez and Ernesto Diaz were the first to step into the arena. The fight was fierce and brutal, two strong men battling with relentless determination. Blood stained the floor as their struggle continued.

With a sense of urgency, Miguel reminded them of the time limit. Five minutes remained, and the pressure mounted. Lucas unleashed a flurry of savage blows, and when the dust settled, Ernesto lay lifeless on the ground.

"Congratulations, Lucas," Miguel declared, his tone disturbingly congratulatory. "You've secured your place."

"It's time for the next showdown! Santiago Perez, get ready to clash with the formidable Enzo De Leon," Miguel announced, fueling the excitement as the two fighters stepped into the ring. The crowd held their breath as another intense round of combat ensued, with blood pumping and adrenaline rushing. In the end, Enzo emerged victorious, claiming the hard-fought win. Miguel, true to tradition, extended his welcome handshake and offered him a seat.

"Next up, it's Bryson Finley versus Erick Garcia," Miguel declared, keeping the anticipation high.

Finally, it was Rowen's turn. Thoughts raced through his mind as he approached the arena. He took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the moment. The bell rang, and Erick launched the first punch, relentless in his attack. But Rowen had a different strategy in mind. Instead of retaliating, he skillfully blocked each blow, leaving Erick exhausted and drained. Sensing the perfect moment, Rowen seized the opportunity, delivering a powerful punch that sent Erick crashing to the floor. With swift precision, Rowen pinned him down and emerged victorious.

"Outstanding! That was one captivating fight, my friend! Not only do you have sharp shooting aim, but your fighting strategies are top-notch. Bravo, Harmo!" Miguel praised Rowen, guiding him back to his seat. The other two fighters who had made it earlier couldn't help but shoot glares of envy and resentment towards Rowen for the compliment he received.

The rest of the matches followed the same thrilling pattern, with the battles raging on until the final two winners emerged. As the fights concluded, Miguel rose to deliver his closing speech.

"Our initiation concludes today," he announced with a cold smile. "Tomorrow, you will take your final, binding oath. But for now, prepare yourselves to meet our higher-ups in person. Adios."

Mason's House

Mason returned to his modest apartment, the horrors of the initiation still fresh in his mind. He headed straight for the bathroom, where he washed the blood from his hands. Killing was not new to him, but this time felt different—this time, it was to survive.

As he dried himself off, he reflected on the life he had chosen, one drenched in blood and darkness. He couldn't shake the feeling that today's killing had changed something within him, a shift he couldn't quite comprehend.

In his sparsely furnished living room, Mason retrieved a disposable phone and dialed a familiar number, eager to reassure a worried friend.

"Hello," came the voice on the other end.

"It's me, Rowen," Mason replied, relief washing over him. "I was worried when I couldn't reach you earlier."

Rowen explained his reason for the silence, and Mason understood. He was eager to hear the outcome of Rowen's initiation.

"So, did you get accepted?" Mason asked, his anticipation evident.

Rowen's response was lukewarm, which puzzled Mason. "That's great news, but why don't you sound happy?"

Rowen wrestled with his thoughts, reflecting on the unnecessary brutality of the initiation. Mason tried to console him, but Rowen had another request: help for Santiago Perez's ailing wife, a gesture of compassion amidst the darkness they both faced.

Mason assured Rowen he would assist and install the devices as planned. As their conversation ended, Mason couldn't help but ponder the fine line they both walked, teetering between darkness and a glimmer of humanity.

The Next Day

Warehouse 11: Vandel's Hideout

The members of the LA Murete Cartel had gathered for the official induction of their new members. Five individuals who had endured and prevailed in the grueling initiation were about to take their final oath. Vandel the enigmatic leader, addressed the assembly with authority.

"We are gathered here today to officially welcome our new members into this organization. Out of all those who went through the various phases of the training, only these five men were able to make it to the end,and now its time for them to take their final oaths, bring the knives".Vandel ordered as a tray containing five knives were brought to him.

He handed each of the knife to the men and instructed them to cut part of their hands with it,they followed the instructions and cut their hands with the knives symbolizing their commitment with their own blood. Then a card was given them, it had the picture of a hanging man with the tittle death written on the back, they put their blood on it and threw it into the fire.

Vandel extended a handshake to each initiate, welcoming them into the sinister folds of the LA Murete Cartel. The chanting of the cartel members and the sound of gunshots in the air echoed the solemnity of the occasion as the new recruits were embraced by darkness.

In this shadowy world, the lines between life and death, morality and malevolence, blurred ever further, leaving the initiates to ponder the path they had chosen.
