C4 Sacrifices anything for her family
Brianne and Nate finally arrived at the Alpen hospital.
“The surgery will proceed as planned.”
Brianne's mother places a hand on her shoulder, her eyes locked onto her beautiful daughter.
“Continue your work at Mr. Nate's company. His kindness is an opportunity for you.”
“Thank you,” she whispered to her.
Suddenly, he came and kept staring at her.
“Don't cry, Brianne.” He offers a reassuring smile, placing a comforting arm around your shoulders. “I'm sure your father will pull through. If there's anything else you need, don't hesitate to ask.”
His warmth envelops her, making her feel safe and supported in this trying time. For the first time since receiving the diagnosis, she allows herself to truly lean on someone else, if only briefly.
“It's not just…the money.” She sobbed.
“Shh, it's alright now. Everything will work out, okay?” He whispers back, one hand moving to cradle the back of her head, his fingers gently tangling in your hair.
He presses his lips against her forehead, holding them there as you both share a quiet moment of solace and understanding.
“Nate…" She breathes against his chest, unsure of how else to express her heartfelt thanks and growing feelings in this vulnerable state.
“Just take care of your family right now,” he murmurs softly, his breath tickling your ear. “And remember, I'm here whenever you need anything. Don't ever forget that.”
“I won't…thank you,” she replied quietly, reluctantly pulling away from his embrace despite her body yearning for more.
“Ms. Brianne? We're ready for your father to undergo surgery now.”
As the nurse leads her tearful mother away, she turns back to him, watching him wipe a stray tear from your cheek with gentle precision. The tender gesture sends shivers down to her spine.
“Go be with your mom. I'll wait here until you update me on the surgery's progress.”
“Thank you very much.” With one last grateful look, she rushed after the disappearing figures of her weeping mother and the nurse.
Days later, Brianne's father's surgery is a success, and her family begins the long road to recovery.
As she prepares to return to work, her mind constantly drifts back to Nate and the immense debt of gratitude she owes him.
“Honey, you know Mr. Nate didn't have to pay for all of that. Be extra courteous and attentive while you're at work,” her mother advises, noticing the determined look in her daughter's eye.
“I will, Mom. His kindness… I don't know how to repay him.”
Brianne, returning to Nicholson's office building, familiar sights and sounds seem somehow different. She could feel the butterfly on her stomach as she got closer.
When she enters his empty office, memories of your intimate encounter in the hospital flood her mind. Nate's desk looks bare without him sitting behind it.
“I'll find a way…starting with keeping his space perfect, like him,” she whispers to herself, smiling wistfully as she begins dusting.
Hours pass quickly as she meticulously cleans every surface of his office.
After finishing the last touches on his already immaculate desk, she glanced up to see him standing in the doorway, watching her with admiration in his eyes.
“You know you didn't have to work so hard, you've been through a lot lately,” he says gently, approaching her with slow strides.
“I needed to keep busy, sir. It's the least I can do after what you did for us,” she explained quietly.
“You can't keep calling me 'sir' after everything we've been through,” he says with a warm chuckle.
His hand reached out to gently tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
“How about we order some lunch together? My treat this time.”
“That's very kind of you, N-Nate. But please let me get it for you today. It would mean a lot to me.”
A small smile plays across his features as he considers her offer.
“I'd love that, Surprise me then.” He pauses briefly before adding, “Oh, and maybe we could eat together when you get back?”
With mental notes of Nate's food preferences, she leaves the office building. During lunch, she picks out a decadent chocolate cake, hoping to bring a smile to his weary face upon her return.
Back inside his office, the heavenly aroma wafts up as she carefully places the cake box on his desk.
He emerges from his private bathroom, fresh-faced and smelling of soap and cologne.
His eyes widen appreciatively as he takes in the sight before him leaning slightly forward over his desk, the delicious-smelling treat between her.
“Looks wonderful. Thank you.”
“It's the least I could do for you,” she says warmly, straightening up and smoothing her skirt.
As the hours slip away, the once bustling office grows quiet. Most employees have left for the night, and the air conditioning hums loudly in the stillness. Nate rubs his tired eyes, stifling a yawn.
She notices the dark circles under his eyes, the slump in his usually straight posture, and the slight tremor in his hands as he handles papers.
“You know, I almost forgot how exhausting these quarterly reports are.”
“Would you like me to stay and help you finish? We could order dinner too if you'd like.”
“That would be wonderful, thank you for offering.”
With a few taps on his phone, he orders their usual favorites and leans back in his chair, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“I appreciate this. I don't think I could face going home to an empty apartment tonight anyway.”
“I'm happy to help, why don't you rest your eyes while I sort these files?”
