C7 I Haven't Congratulated You on Your Engagement Yet!
Su Ke's slender figure was wrapped snugly in a golden backless evening gown that accentuated her curves. Her waist-length, wavy hair flowed in the night breeze, occasionally brushing against Hsiang Sibai's face, carrying a familiar, subtle fragrance. The night air was a bit chilly, and Su Ke rubbed her arms to keep warm.
Hsiang Sibai remembered that she was still recovering and shouldn't be exposed to the night air. Feeling a pang of sympathy, he took off his jacket and draped it over Su Ke's shoulders. She hesitated for a moment but then accepted it.
"You shouldn't have tangled with that person earlier," Hsiang Sibai said, disapproving of Su Ke's actions.
She used to be so gentle and never acted so impulsively.
"Oh?" Su Ke's voice rose as she hugged herself. "So, you think I should just let Ai Zi slander me about being a kept woman?"
At the mention of "slander," Hsiang Sibai's handsome eyebrows furrowed.
"Hsiang Sibai, even without you, I still have to make a living in the entertainment industry," Su Ke implied, suggesting she intended to erase any trace of her past with him. Hsiang Sibai felt displeased and was about to speak when Su Ke impatiently interrupted.
"If there's nothing else, I'll be on my way."
"You shouldn't be here. I'll have the driver take you home."
Hsiang Sibai spoke, his tone softening a bit.
"You shouldn't have snuck out of the hospital. Let him take you for a check-up."
Su Ke was puzzled by Hsiang Sibai's behavior. Was he really showing concern for a former lover at his own engagement party?
"Congratulations on your engagement," she said, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.
Thinking about the engagement party, Su Ke couldn't resist a jab.
"You must be quite busy today, so I won't trouble you any further."
Hsiang Sibai was slightly annoyed, wondering how she knew about the engagement.
"Be good. What I gave you before will still be yours in the future," he said.
"But I hope you remember your place. I don't want the past to repeat itself."
Su Ke felt like she had just heard the biggest joke in the world. She laughed until tears came to her eyes.
Standing before her, Hsiang Sibai exuded a cold, hard aura. He was as handsome and dignified as ever, but Su Ke pitied herself for taking three years to realize he was a complete devil.
"Hsiang Sibai, just now, in front of everyone, you said we were perfectly innocent," Su Ke challenged.
"So what do you mean now? Are you planning to keep me as your mistress even though you're getting engaged?"
"Is this what you call perfectly innocent?"
Hsiang Sibai looked deeply at Su Ke's smile, seeming like he wanted to deny it, but in the end, he said nothing.
"Hsiang Sibai! You make me sick!"
Su Ke yanked off his jacket and hurled it at him with all her might.
"Take your filthy clothes and get out!"
She was furious, wishing she could slap him again like she did at the hospital.
"Su Ke!"
Hsiang Sibai was enraged by her cold demeanor. She had never spoken to him like this before, and the stark contrast was hard for him to accept. He grabbed her arm and pulled her tightly into his embrace.
"What kind of game are you playing?" His voice was icy. He knew she was upset about losing the baby, and he had already made significant concessions.
"You've caused a scene and had your fun! I promised to keep supporting you like before, with money and resources. What more do you want?"
He squeezed her arm, wondering where the once-docile Su Ke had gone. Now, he was so frustrated he could almost devour this unreasonable woman.
"Do you... actually expect me to marry you?"
His voice dripped with disdain as he squinted, trying to see through her apparent greed.
"Smack—!"
His head snapped to the side as Su Ke slapped him again, her anger boiling over.
"Hsiang Sibai, you jerk!"
She screamed, and he suddenly grabbed her chin, feeling an overwhelming urge to bite a piece out of her.
"Let him go!"
Before Hsiang Sibai could see who it was, another heavy punch landed on his already bruised face.
