C8 You Are Shen Siyi!
Hsiang Sibai staggered back three steps, while the newcomer swiftly wrapped Su Ke in his arms, draping a coat over her that carried the familiar scent of cologne and tobacco, along with a comforting warmth.
"Quinn," Su Ke murmured into his chest, nearly on the verge of tears.
Quinn gently patted her head in reassurance. "I doubt Young Master Hsiang would actually harm a woman," he said, addressing Hsiang Sibai, who had just gotten back on his feet.
Hsiang Sibai wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand. As he looked up, he saw Su Ke nestled in Quinn's embrace, and anger flared in his eyes, as if he wished he could burn a hole through Quinn's arms.
Ignoring Quinn, Hsiang Sibai extended a hand to Su Ke. "Su Ke, come back."
Su Ke felt like laughing, unsure of what grounds Hsiang Sibai thought he had to call her over. She lifted her head to face him, taking a deep breath to steady her voice into a cold tone.
"Hsiang Sibai, if I remember correctly, we're done," she said. "The moment you pushed me into that operating room, it was over."
Even though she had prepared herself for this moment, her heart still ached as she spoke those words.
"Come here," Hsiang Sibai repeated.
Su Ke clung tightly to Quinn's coat, as if holding on to the last shred of her dignity.
Hsiang Sibai chuckled, "You think you can just call it quits like that?"
Su Ke found the person in front of her utterly unreasonable.
"Hsiang Sibai, you're about to get engaged to Miss Shen. Why are you still entangled with me, your stand-in?"
The word "stand-in" pierced Su Ke's heart like a dagger, and she trembled from the pain of her own words.
"So, you've already lined up your next option?" Hsiang Sibai spoke, his brow furrowed, lips pressed tight, the sting of betrayal lingering in his heart.
Su Ke was so furious she could barely stand. She leaned against Qin Liang, forcing a bright smile.
"Since you already know, we'll be on our way."
With that, Su Ke pulled Qin Liang to leave.
"Sibai! Sibai!"
They had barely taken a few steps when a woman in a white dress came running toward them. She didn't seem to notice Su Ke, wrapped up tightly, as she headed straight for Hsiang Sibai.
"Sibai, the party's about to start," the woman said. "My brother asked me to find you."
Su Ke heard Hsiang Sibai's voice, softer than she'd ever heard before.
"I'm coming. It's windy out here; why didn't you wear a coat?"
"I was in a hurry to find you!" the woman pouted.
Su Ke turned back, and this time, she finally saw the woman's face clearly.
"Are you... Shen Siyi?"
Su Ke found the world to be quite ironic. Standing before her was Miss Shen, Shen Siyi, who turned out to be an old acquaintance.
"Ye Yajing."
Seeing the woman across from her looking a bit flustered, Su Ke called out her original name.
"Long time no see."
Ye Yajing hadn't expected to run into Su Ke so soon. After a brief moment of panic, she remembered she had Hsiang Sibai by her side as her support. She lifted her chin and feigned innocence.
"So, it's Miss Su. You're here too."
"Are you here to attend my engagement party with Sibai?"
"That's wonderful. With your blessing, Sibai and I are sure to be happy."
Su Ke's lips twisted slightly, knowing Ye Yajing was deliberately trying to upset her. Ye Yajing's attitude clearly indicated she was aware of Su Ke's past relationship with Hsiang Sibai.
"Alright." Su Ke looked at Hsiang Sibai, trying to make the resentment in her eyes more apparent to him, but her words were different—
"Then I wish you both..."
"A long and happy life together..."
"Many children..."
"And much happiness..."
