C9 Qin Liang You Are like an Old Mother!!

Su Ke had no idea how lively the engagement party was behind her. She asked Qin Liang to take her for a drive around the city.

“Are you curious about my story?” Su Ke tucked a strand of hair behind her ear as the night breeze eagerly swept through the open-top car.

“You’ll tell me when you’re ready,” Qin Liang replied, glancing at her while keeping his hands on the wheel.

Feeling a bit bored, Su Ke wrapped herself tighter in Qin Liang’s jacket and calmly said, “Yesterday, Hsiang Sibai took me to terminate our pregnancy.”

Screech! The tires skidded loudly as Qin Liang slammed on the brakes.

“That’s reckless!” Qin Liang scolded her. The biting night wind was quickly shut out as he raised the car’s roof. Somehow, he found a blanket and wrapped Su Ke snugly in it.

“Qin Liang, you’re like an overprotective mom!” Su Ke’s voice was muffled, with only her eyes peeking out.

“I’m your endlessly worried big brother,” Qin Liang retorted angrily.

“Hahaha,” Su Ke laughed, genuinely amused.

The car came to a stop, and Qin Liang didn’t start it again. They had parked by the riverside.

Neither of them got out. Under the dim glow of the streetlights, Su Ke drifted into her memories.

“There’s really not much to say about Hsiang Sibai and me. It’s the classic tale of a big shot supporting a starlet, the starlet trying to use a child to hold onto him, and in the end, losing everything.”

Su Ke spoke lightly, but Qin Liang felt a deep ache in his heart.

Looking at Qin Liang, Su Ke thought, he must be feeling sorry for her.

“Actually, I’m okay now!”

Su Ke tried to be strong, attempting to convince everyone she had truly moved on.

“I never want to see him again!”

Su Ke hugged her knees, burying her face into them. Her voice, muffled by the soft blanket, still carried a hint of bitterness and resentment that Qin Liang could hear.

“Alright.” Qin Liang gently ruffled her soft hair, “You’ll never see him again.”

Su Ke playfully nudged her head against Qin Liang’s hand, finding a long-lost warmth and comfort she used to feel with family.

“I’m going to forget that jerk! Focus on my work and live well!”

“I’ll become a top actress soon! I want to go to college! Study directing! Make the films I want to make!”

After each wish, Qin Liang would respond with a sincere “Alright,” carefully noting each one, perhaps even more seriously than Su Ke herself.

“Speaking of which,” Qin Liang suddenly remembered, “Do you know that Shen Siyi?”

“Oh, her!” Su Ke’s memories drifted far back.

“We were in the same orphanage. My memories from back then are really fuzzy. I don’t even know when I got there or how long I stayed.”

"We've known each other for as long as I can remember."

"Once, a couple came to the orphanage looking to adopt. I heard from the director that they were both college professors and quite wealthy."

"All the kids hoped to be chosen by them. I did too. Mrs. Ye was so kind, and I really liked her."

"Mrs. Ye seemed to like me as well. I overheard her telling the director that she wanted to take me home."

"...But in the end, they chose Ye Yajing, or rather, Shen Siyi."

Su Ke's voice, once flat, now carried a hint of sadness as she recalled the past.

"Because... Ye Yajing told them I was a thief, that I often stole things."
