C8 A Smart and Kind Woman

As soon as Moo Nuannuan heard his words, her legs almost gave out. It was a good thing she was so close to the couch, otherwise, she would've already toppled over from the shock and anxiety. Her hands were already shaking at the thought of even touching him, and he was asking her to save him. "What did you just say?" She blinked, praying that she didn't hear him right. "I–I can't just operate on you! I don't know how!"

Although she hated this man with a passion, she certainly wasn't going to let him die because of her! And she also wasn't going to die alongside with him just because they were stupid enough to do the operation themselves!

Her entire life felt like a curse struck down to Moo Liyan and Xiao Chuhee. She was nothing more than an accident baby who was born through a failure of contraception. In the Moo household, she could be counted as a servant, serving her siblings' beck and call. Although her life was bad, she still worked hard enough to build herself a better future.

Just because Mu Jiachen had a death wish, didn't mean that she should too!

He raised his eyebrows. "Do you want to be buried alongside with me?"

Although his tone was still indifferent, there was a certain darkness laced around his voice that made her shiver.

It seemed that Moo Nuannuan didn't have much of a say in this matter either.

With a sigh, she hurried up to get the things that he had asked for. Besides, at this point, her life had already collapsed to the point of beyond repair the moment she had married into the Mu family. What's the worse that could happen? Her dying? That might be the best way to end her miserable life at this point. A bitter smile curved into her lips.

If Mu Jiachen really died and she had to bury herself alongside him, it wouldn't be too bad. At least, he wasn't that bad-looking.

Once she had gathered all the materials, she knelt right beside him and held the blade close to her chest. Although she tried her best to keep a straight face, she still couldn't stop her hands from trembling.

"Here I go," she said steadily, cutting the flesh over the wound. Moo Nuannuan made sure to pay close attention to his reactions as the blade slid deeper into the opening, granting her the depth she needed to take out the bullet that had wedged itself underneath the skin. "Just–just calm down."

When in reality, she was the one who needed to calm down. For someone who was being operated on, Mu Jiachen showed no pain in his expression. Other than his pale face and sweaty forehead, he didn't grimace or cringe like she had expected him to. The only thing different now was that his eyebrows were furrowed over.

It took her a few seconds to realize that he was staring right at her.

Although he was weak, there was so much intensity underneath those eyes that could burn a hole through her head.

"I–please don't look at me," she stuttered.

Mu Tingxiao was actually not as calm as she had perceived him to be. The way she had cut through his skin was enough to make him want to scream out in pain. At this point, he was already losing a lot of blood, and he could feel his vision blurring in the process. He clenched his fists.

However, every time he found himself staring at Moo Nuannuan, the pain that had harshly bitten him in the sides, miraculously slowed down.

"You don't need to be so nervous," he said lightly. "I believe in you. I know you won't let me die."

"I won't..." She blinked, not expecting him to say this. For so long, back at the Moo family mansion, she had always been instructed to stay out of everyone's way. In their eyes, she was nothing more than a nuisance. Nobody had ever said these words to her, and nobody had trusted her with such an important task. With a deep breath, she got straight to work.

It felt like more than a century had passed when she finally pulled out the bullet from his wound.

Sweat beaded down her shaky arm as she flung the bullet onto the container with a sigh of relief. "It's done."

After washing her hands in the basin next to her, Moo Nuannuan glanced his way. "Hey, how are you feeling?"

Her eyes gleamed with an indescribable emotion as she stared up at him. Before this, she had thought that Mu Jiachen was a troublesome man–one with whom she wasn't meant to meddle. Although that opinion still hadn't changed, she couldn't help but discover a newfound respect for him throughout this entire ordeal.

Throughout the entire operation, he didn't cry out in pain nor did he push her to make it faster. In fact, he was as patient as a turtle, even comforting her every step of the way. It was the first time she had ever seen a man that capable, and she couldn't help but appreciate that calmness within so much chaos.

Even then, that still didn't change the fact that he almost seemed...inhumane to her, and somewhat scary.

"Get a pen. I'll write up a few pills," he stated firmly, not sounding like a man who had just stared death right in the face. Once he had written everything down, she grabbed the paper and headed out of the apartment.

Moo Nuannuan made sure not to pass by the alleyway they had run from an hour ago, and instead took the other route.

She made sure to run by a several pharmacies to gather all the pills separately, before coming back to her place.

As soon as Mu Tingxiao heard the door slam close, he glanced up to see her returning with various plastic bags slung on her arms. They were from various pharmacies down the street. At the sight, he couldn't help but smile in satisfaction.

If there was anything he was sure about, it was that Moo Nuannuan was a smart and kind woman.

Although he hated him...or Mu Jiachen, with a passion, she still managed to put aside her pride and help him.

She even did a good job for someone who didn't have a doctor's license.

She also must've thought that he was still being hunted down by his enemies, so she had made sure that she was cautious with the whole thing. Afraid that it might arouse suspicion, she made sure to stop by several shops to buy them separately. He smirked. He had truly underestimated this woman.

Moo Nuannuan took out one of the ointments. "I'll apply it on you. If it hurts, just tell me," she warned.

However, even as she was applying the medicine, he still didn't make a sound.

For someone who had just been shot, he certainly didn't look like it. Just as she was about to get up, the man suddenly reached out and grabbed her. It had completely caught her off-guard, so she stumbled back, and he used this opportunity to peck her on the lips. His eyes glimmered with amusement.

"I told you not to wear glasses, didn't I?"
