C7 Lonely Days

Weeks went by without me stepping out of the mansion, into the hot arms of the sun, I could barely move anywhere without my husband asking me to take at least one bodyguard by my side and we would drive to wherever I was going, I didn't walk under the sun and I felt so drained by this habit. I didn't know if it was just a sign of the deep roots of poverty in my blood or the fact that I wasn't fully used to this kind of life, after taking my bath, I quickly ate breakfast alone before my stepchildren and my husband woke up from their beautiful slumber, it was kind of awkward that the same people who are old enough to be my age mates suddenly turned to my stepchildren.

Marriage is indeed a funny thing, I sipped in my orange juice and stared at the beautiful flowers in the garden, the way the breeze blew each of them from side to side. I was fully grabbed by their rhythm when my phone vibrated on the chair, I checked out the caller and saw my mom's name with the heart emoji I used in saving her number

"she must be feeling lonely, her only daughter is now far away from her again". I said and answered the call

"how are you my darling daughter?" she asked in a fine tone

"I'm fine and not fine at the same time, I feel caged and deranged"

"and why are you feeling deranged?, are you missing me already?"

I laughed after she said that, I did miss her though but hell no would I mention it to her

"Nah, I'm just so caged and monitored, I can barely move out on my own without a muscular guy with a pistol gun and a dagger around his waist, following me everywhere I go" I lamented

"your husband wants you to be safe at all times, you should be happy you have someone to protect you, have you ever given a second thought to women out there who are being molested and attacked in public places all because they have no one to watch their back. Ease your stress and make merry my dear, you have nothing to trouble you" she responded

"I never asked for it and I can protect myself, this marriage is not of my bidding, you both forced me into it like a puppet and now I'm the one feeling deranged while both of you are receiving cash and luxury as a reward for being the inlaws of a rich man" I screamed at her

"you know we love and you also know that we will not allow you to get hurt, just give it a little time and you will be amazed by the depth at which you will so fall in love with Mr David Decker, I know you will," she said slowly

her calm voice made me relax but I was still a bit angry with her and my dad, I didn't even accept to talk to him for a while.

"I have heard you, Mom, I will give it more time as you said and hope something good comes out of it," I said with a sad voice

"that's my girl, I will chat with you some other time, bye" she replied and hung up

I sighed and resumed my constant glares at the beautiful flowers, the fresh breeze that swept my feet and the atmosphere felt divine. I was beginning to get bored of the big house and it wasn't hard to know that I wanted something more than waking up, eating, and moving around with bodyguards everywhere like I was the wife of the president.

I took a stroll to the garage when I saw my husband reversed out of the house in his white Rolls Royce Phantom. He didn't see me and I didn't care to wave at him before he zoomed off with speed, I was about to turn back when I bumped into Georgina and some books

"oh, I'm sorry," I said fast and went down to pick up the books that fell from her hands

"I thought you were leaving the house with my dad, wasn't expecting to see you standing here" she replied

"He didn't tell me where he was heading to and I'm not even aware he was going to leave the house this early" I revealed

"my dad and his secret movements, ugh" she sighed and walked past me

she was heading towards the garden, I looked around and saw nothing else to do so I followed her and we both took a seat, she took out one of her books to read, she was a Shakespeare fan

"I want to ask you a little question dear," I said in a low tone

she closed her book and stared at my face with a smile on hers

"Sorry I ignored the fact that you are here, my love for books is just so overwhelming at times"

"I see, you are studying a course at the university right?"

"yes, I am"

"May I know what that course is?"

she was silent a bit, with her eyes slowly moving to the flowers beside us

"I'm currently studying law at Harvard University, we are on holiday so I figured out that spending this free time in my dad's house would be worth it"

"explains why you love books, that's great but have you ever felt kind of awkward that a young girl is taking over your mom's position in your father's life?" I asked

the silence that engulfed where we sat was frightening, I shouldn't have asked her that question, it must have stirred up some memories that she must have locked away deep beneath her soul. Tears rolled out of her eyes and I cringed at the sight of it, "What have I done?" I asked my conscience

"I'm so sorry, that was a stupid question, please forgive me," I said in a confused manner and quickly used my handkerchief to wipe off the tears from her face

"no, you aren't wrong to ask a question like that, saying it now only made me remember how I felt when my mom died. I don't blame my dad one bit for remarrying, he was worse than us when he lost the only woman who could make him smile a thousand and one times" she replied and used her hand to wipe her eyes

"I'm sorry about what happened to her, life goes on no matter what and I'm glad to be here with you, I believe we can make something good out of our relationship as one big family"

"yeah, and about your question, I don't feel awkward that you are here. if you can make my father happy, then I have no god-damned issue with you, I look at you now as a member of my family"

a smile appeared on my face after she said that and I quickly gave her a tight hug, while she rubbed my back slowly.
