C12 It Was a Good Thing That She Had a Terminal Illness

Mu Wanxing didn't catch the underlying meaning and spoke to herself, "I don't have much time left. Could you be a little nicer to me? Once I'm gone, you can have whatever you want. You can even give all my usable organs to Kin Qier."

"What does she need all that for? She only needs a heart," Soong Yichen replied dismissively.

His indifferent attitude pushed Mu Wanxing deeper into despair, yet she still wanted to make a last-ditch effort, nervously asking, "Yichen, did you ever love me?"

Soong Yichen felt uneasy under Mu Wanxing's gaze and looked away. "I remember telling you, I never loved you. In fact, I despise this relationship."

The last time Soong Yichen said this, Mu Wanxing comforted herself, thinking he was just angry because she "crashed the wedding." But this time, he was just as certain.

"Then before, before Kin Qier showed up, everything you did for me... was it all an act?"

"Yes."

"For what?"

"Muse. You're an only child. Being with you meant getting Muse."

"And now? You don't need it anymore?"

"With Qier, why would I need Muse? Without her, I would have settled for less."

So, she was just a backup plan.

Unwilling to accept it, she pleaded, "Could you keep pretending for just one more month, just one month, please?"

Even on the brink of death, she still longed for his love, even if it was just pretend.

"Are you trying to disgust me for a whole month?" Yichen's response was brutally honest.

Wanxing felt a tightness in her chest, struggling to catch her breath.

"Don't be too upset," Yichen said after a moment.

Wanxing felt a glimmer of hope. He wasn't entirely heartless; he was still willing to offer some comfort.

Yichen continued, "Actually, having a terminal illness is a good thing. It's better than being healthy and donating your heart to end your own life. At least before you die, you can create some value."

Who knew you could think of it that way?

Wanxing was so taken aback she couldn't speak for a while.

But Yichen clearly thought that wasn't enough: "It seems you don't love me that much. If you weren't in the late stages of melanoma, would you have offered to donate your heart to Qier just to marry me?"

Wanxing was speechless.

So, was her love not deep enough? Was she not selfless enough?

"About your condition..." Yichen seemed lost in thought. "I'll call your doctor. Give me the number."

Wanxing gave Yichen the number.

Yichen finally seemed to have a conscience, showing concern for her condition by calling her doctor.

Even though his words had been harsh.

Soon after, Wanxing heard Yichen asking, "Dr. Wang, I need to understand Wanxing's condition... In her case, will the cancer cells spread to the heart, making it unusable... I mean, for a transplant to someone else... That would put my mind at ease..."

Mu Wanxing stared at Soong Yichen, her eyes wide with disbelief. Discussing such matters right in front of her. She was still very much alive! He was finally "relieved" because her heart was still usable. She was no longer seen as a living person, just an organ, a functional organ in his eyes. His cold-blooded nature kept shattering her understanding. Even if she were to drop dead in front of him, it wouldn't stir the slightest ripple in him, would it? No, he would panic because a dead person's heart can't be used.

After finishing his call, Soong Yichen returned with a satisfied look and got into bed. Wanxing suddenly couldn't understand, and coldly asked, "Aren't you going out tonight?" He had come back with a purpose, warned her, and was supposed to head out to see Kin Qier.

"I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying home with you," Soong Yichen said while texting. "With you," he said it so sweetly. Unfortunately, Wanxing didn't dare to hold onto any hopeful illusions. It couldn't be out of concern for her, couldn't be to offer her some warmth in her remaining days.

"In the future, whenever I have time, I'll be with you," Soong Yichen said after sending his message. Wanxing was speechless. It sounded like a heartfelt confession. Isn't it said that companionship is the longest form of love? Yet, without giving Wanxing any room for imagination, Soong Yichen added, "The doctor said your condition could lead to sudden death any day. If you die suddenly and we can't retrieve your heart in time, what would Qier do?"

Mu Wanxing clutched her chest, fearing her heart might burst from sheer frustration.

"Wow, thanks a lot. You're so busy, yet you still find time to personally hurt me!"

It took her a while to regain her composure. Then, word by word, she said, "Soong Yichen, I heard the doctors say you might have amnesia. Aren't you afraid that one day, when your memory returns, you'll regret what you're doing now?"

"Regret?" Soong Yichen sneered, "You're overthinking it."

"What if you do regret it?" Mu Wanxing asked through gritted teeth.

"If that day ever comes, I'll propose to you on live stream every day for a month, each time in a different way!" Soong Yichen said flippantly. "Mu Wanxing, you better live long enough for that."

Mu Wanxing was speechless. How ironic, knowing she only had forty days left to live.

If he truly had amnesia, would he propose to her gravestone after she died?

Feeling utterly desolate, Mu Wanxing lay down silently. Her body was numb from the pain of her illness, her heart too hurt to feel anything. She asked herself, is this what dying feels like?

She might not even see tomorrow's sunrise.

Half of her cause of death would be from sheer anger.

Suddenly, she felt that everything she'd done was pointless. Why was she trying to awaken Soong Yichen's memory? To make him face her death with clarity?

"No, don't do this."

Even though he had gone to such lengths, she still couldn't bear to see him sad and upset. After all, she loved him.

"Wanxing, are you free? Want to grab a coffee together..."

In the afternoon, Ann Ling called to invite her out.

Mu Wanxing thought her friend was worried about her situation. She wasn't feeling well and couldn't do much work anyway. "Sure."

It was the same café as last time.

Ann Ling danced around the topic, saying a few unrelated things before finally getting to the point. "I heard from a friend that Soong's is starting a plan to acquire Muse."

A chill ran through Mu Wanxing's heart. Soong Yichen saw her on the brink of death and couldn't wait to take Muse into his hands. Didn't he say that with Kin Qier, he didn't care about Muse anymore? It turns out he was just saying one thing and meaning another.

She had already told him that when she died, he could have everything. Her body was already in such a state, let alone material possessions. Why was he in such a hurry to make things worse?

Her father was still in the hospital, and Soong Yichen wouldn't even give the old man a break!

"He's in such a rush to cut off all ties," she murmured.

"Did you tell Soong Yichen about your illness?" Ann Ling asked loudly. "What did he say?"

Mu Wanxing's face darkened. Just then, the barista from last time walked by, so she said nothing.
