C15 Every Single Word Was Aimed at the Heart!
"Alright," Wanxing finally said after a long pause.
Only then did Qiangwei's expression soften. "I'm glad you understand. I have one more request. If anyone asks, you know what to say, right?"
"I know. I'll say I initiated the divorce. That I have a terminal illness, I'm not fit for marriage, and it's my fault," Wanxing replied with a hint of sarcasm in her smile.
"Don't put it that way. If you want to blame something, blame the Soong family cemetery for not being big enough," Qiangwei retorted, clearly displeased.
Wanxing gave a bitter smile. "You mentioned Yichen might have amnesia. What if he regains his memory someday and asks you to help us get back together?"
Qiangwei's face stiffened. "Actually, the doctor only said his symptoms resemble amnesia. It's not confirmed."
Wanxing fell silent. They hadn't even confirmed it, yet they had urged her to be understanding because of Yichen's supposed memory loss.
Qiangwei quickly added with a sharp tone, "Aren't you supposed to have only about thirty days left?"
Wanxing remained silent. The Soong family sure knew how to hit where it hurt.
"Director, do you have the same illness as the chairman's wife?" Lee asked urgently after Qiangwei left.
"Yeah," Wanxing replied softly. "Just like my mom, it's terminal."
"Director..." Lee began to tear up.
This girl is really sentimental.
Mu Wanxing had to comfort her, "You know I agreed to donate my heart, so I won't be around much longer. Like someone said, if I donate my heart after getting a terminal illness, it's like making use of something that's going to waste."
"Who said that? Why don't they just go die themselves!" Lee fumed.
Mu Wanxing: "..."
Even now, she still hoped Soong Yichen could live well.
"My dad is still in the hospital, so let's not talk about my condition yet. I don't want the company to panic or competitors to take advantage," she instructed heavily.
She was worried her secret wouldn't last long.
In these final days, Kin Qier wouldn't let her have any peace.
"I understand," Lee nodded, choking back tears. "Did Mrs. Soong come to see the director today just to accuse you of hiding your illness?"
"She wants me to divorce Soong Yichen."
"But this marriage was something the director risked everything for!"
"My life means nothing to them."
"Director, the Soong family is so heartless. They're more worried about Yichen being labeled as 'cursed' than they are about your life!"
"Don't be like me. Don't give your heart away so easily. Be careful when choosing a family to marry into."
"The Soong family used to treat the director so well, and now it's like this. Muse is still the leading company on Cloud Island... How are regular people supposed to cope? I'm scared to even think about dating now."
Mu Wanxing stared at the computer screen for a long time, but none of the content registered. Was she really going to end her title as Mrs. Soong, something she had risked her life for?
It seemed that Yichen's supposed amnesia was just a misunderstanding. He had truly moved on, and continuing this charade would only make her situation more embarrassing.
"What? Divorce? What are you up to?" Yichen asked, holding the divorce papers, his brow furrowed as he scrutinized Wanxing.
Wanxing kept her face calm. "Just sign it."
"I get it," Yichen sneered, his lips curling with disdain. "You just want to break the agreement and not donate your organ to Qier. Don't forget, I kept my end of the deal by marrying you, and we've been married for almost a month now. Divorce won't change anything!"
Wanxing wasn't in the mood for a lengthy discussion. "Don't worry, I'll keep my promise."
"No way. If we divorce and you run off, where would I find you? What if Qier gets sick?" Yichen shook his head.
Wanxing was irritated. "I'm seriously ill, the company still needs me, where could I possibly run to? Besides, it was your mom who asked me to initiate the divorce. Why don't you all have a family meeting and then let me know the outcome?"
"Alright then..." Yichen pretended to think it over, then walked out while dialing his phone. "Mom, Wanxing says you told her to divorce me..."
Soon, Yichen returned, picked up the divorce agreement, and stared intently at Wanxing. "You promised that after the divorce, you wouldn't back out of the heart donation, right?"
"Yes," Wanxing replied, not in the mood for a lengthy conversation. She just wanted to end this relationship quickly. She hadn't realized before that he was such a mama's boy. His mom told him to come back and work things out with her, so he did. Now, she told them to divorce, and he complied.
Yichen gave Wanxing a strange look, quickly skimmed through the agreement, signed it, and immediately called Qier to share the news. "Qier, I've divorced Wanxing. Now you can be with me without worrying about gossip. I'm coming over to see you..."
Wanxing just sighed. She signed her name, tossed the divorce papers on the nightstand, and began packing her things. Handling the divorce proceedings wasn't something she should have to lead, especially as a patient. She'd wait for Yichen to notify her when to pick up the divorce certificate.
Standing in the garden, Wanxing looked at the beautiful house. This place hadn't left her with a single good memory, so leaving sooner was for the best. She was grateful they helped her make up her mind.
Suddenly, Wanxing felt lost, unsure of where to go. Go home? As a divorced woman, returning to her family might invite pity or ridicule from the staff.
Wanxing called Ann Ling. "Ann, are you home? I just divorced Yichen and was hoping to stay with you for a few days."
"I'm home, I'm home. Where are you now? I'll come pick you up!" Ann Ling said excitedly.
Mu Wanxing gave her location, "I can drive myself."
"Isn't your hand hurting? Don't drive, just wait there for me to pick you up!" Ann Ling insisted and hung up the phone.
A warmth spread through Mu Wanxing's chilled heart. Worried that Ann Ling might have trouble getting in, she went outside to sit on the steps of the villa and wait for her.
She asked Wang Lan to take most of her belongings back to the Mo family, keeping only a few clothes to bring to Ann Ling's place.
While waiting, Mu Wanxing frequently glanced at the road. Cars passed by, but one familiar car drew closer.
It was Soong Yichen's car.
Even now, sensing his presence made her heart race uncontrollably, as naturally as breathing.
What would he think seeing her sitting here?
Would he show any concern for her?
Even if it was just for old times' sake, or because she was still willing to donate her heart to the woman he cherished?
Would he give her a farewell hug?
Lost in thought, Mu Wanxing worried her anticipation was too obvious, so she turned her head away as the car approached.
She heard the car stop nearby.
She also heard Soong Yichen's footsteps.
She could "recognize" his footsteps.
"What are you doing sitting here?" Soong Yichen asked, walking closer with a furrowed brow.
"Waiting for the bus," Wanxing said softly.
Yichen asked again, "Where's your car?"
"Wang Lan took it," Wanxing replied.
She felt a slight anticipation—would Yichen offer to drive her home? If he did, she might not have the willpower to refuse and would have to apologize to Ann Ling.
