C2 Who Was the One Who Was too Deep in Love?
Mu Wanxing couldn't sleep all night, listening intently for any sound outside, hoping Soong Yichen would return. By morning, that hope had completely faded.
She struggled to get out of bed, tidied up her weary face, and mustered the energy to head to the company. Her mother's passing had been a heavy blow to her father, Mu Sheng, who had been hospitalized and was still recovering after a critical rescue. As the only daughter, Wanxing had to step in at the Mo family company, Muse, to handle some affairs in her father's stead.
"Morning, Director."
"Morning."
The friendly faces throughout the company lifted Wanxing's spirits a bit. Muse was one of the leading food groups on Cloud Island, and Wanxing served as the Director of the Product Development Department. She had developed several best-selling snack products for the company. Her strong professional skills and approachable demeanor made her well-liked among the employees.
Juggling multiple roles, Wanxing missed lunch and decided to find something to eat at a nearby restaurant. To her surprise, she saw Soong Yichen, who hadn't come home the night before, sitting there with Kin Qier. Wanxing stopped, her expression wavering.
Kin Qier seemed to sense something, glanced over, and then a mysterious smile appeared on her lips as she leaned in to whisper something to Yichen.
Yichen looked over, staring directly at Wanxing.
Feeling like she was caught doing something wrong, Wanxing took a deep breath and walked toward them, meeting their gaze.
"Are you following us?" Yichen asked immediately, his handsome face twisted with disdain.
Wanxing glanced at Qier: Was she the one egging Yichen on? And Yichen? Had he lost his mind along with his heart?
Yichen was the CEO of Soong's Group. Both Soong's and Muse had their offices in the bustling city center, right next to each other. Countless times, he had dropped her off at work and picked her up afterward.
Qier, looking innocent and scared, shrank against Yichen.
"Don't be afraid," Yichen quickly reassured her, pulling her close like a mother hen protecting her chick. His voice turned harsh as he addressed Wanxing, "What are you trying to do? Do you think Qier is easy to bully because she's unwell?"
Wanxing's heart sank. She knew saying more would only make her feel worse, so she walked past them and found a seat.
The restaurant wasn't too crowded at this hour, but their sweet nothings occasionally drifted into Wanxing's ears.
“Yichen, my hands are tired. Can you feed me?”
“Of course, my princess.”
“Yichen, I want some lobster.”
“Don’t move, I’ll get the meat for you.”
“Yichen, try the porridge from my bowl. It’s sweeter than yours. Open up.”
......
Mu Wanxing frowned as she watched the two of them feeding each other. It was such a familiar scene, with Soong Yichen wearing that same affectionate smile. Only the leading lady had changed.
Was Soong Yichen an actor? Did he treat life like a movie set? She was just a temporary co-star, easily replaced. Had he already moved on to the next role so quickly? Who was really caught up in the act? If he could do this, maybe he never truly loved her.
Mu Wanxing couldn’t bear to watch any longer. Confrontation wasn’t her style, so she simply walked away to collect herself.
At the bathroom sink, Mu Wanxing recalled the scene, feeling a wave of nausea and dry heaving.
“Mrs. Soong, didn’t sleep well last night? You look awful today,” came a sharp voice.
Mu Wanxing looked up and saw Kin Qier’s smug smile in the mirror. A heart patient, yet she seemed more spirited than Wanxing.
“Last night” — was she gloating about having Soong Yichen spend their wedding night with her?
Mu Wanxing clenched her fists and turned to face her. “Kin Qier, if your heart’s not well, you should stay home and mind your own business.”
"Do you really have to be so discriminatory towards patients?"
"Everyone gets sick at some point."
"Honestly, I'd love to just stay home and rest."
"But your husband insisted he wants to keep an eye on me all the time, otherwise he can't focus on work."
"So, I had no choice but to come to the office with him, sticking to him like glue."
...
Kin Qier boasted with a self-satisfied grin.
Mu Wanxing had never encountered someone so shameless, leaving her speechless with anger.
A girl emerged from one of the bathroom stalls, giving Kin Qier a puzzled look, seemingly unable to grasp what was happening in the world.
It took Mu Wanxing a moment to find her voice again. "Kin Qier, since you know I'm Mrs. Soong and that Soong Yichen is my husband, maybe you should show some restraint and have a little dignity!"
"Dignity?" Kin Qier mocked, "I'm not the one lacking it. Everyone on Cloud Island knows that Soong Yichen and I were madly in love. We were about to get married, but you used underhanded tactics, offering a heart donation as a condition to steal him away. Everyone knows how much he loves me, but because of my health, he had to make a sacrifice... It was all over the news, didn't you see the headlines? Homewrecker!"
Kin Qier's malicious gaze flickered over Mu Wanxing's face like a snake's tongue.
The girl who had just left the bathroom hadn't gone far. She turned back, staring at Mu Wanxing.
The education Mu Wanxing received always put her at a disadvantage against opponents with strong combat skills. Frustrated, she shouted, "Stop yelling!"
"You think just because you tell me to stop, I will? Not only am I going to keep yelling, but I'm also going to make sure everyone on Cloud Island calls you a homewrecker..." Kin Qier sneered, stepping closer to Mu Wanxing.
Her smile was unsettling, and Mu Wanxing instinctively warned, "Stay back. If you come any closer, I'll fight back."
"I'm just here to let you know that I bought the trending topic. I even hired people to spread it, all to make sure your reputation as a homewrecker goes viral," Kin Qier whispered maliciously.
"You!" Mu Wanxing was shaking with anger, pointing a finger at Kin Qier.
Suddenly, Kin Qier's expression turned fierce. She grabbed Mu Wanxing's hand and, with a swift motion, slapped herself hard across the face.
Mu Wanxing was completely stunned by this unexpected move.
Kin Qier then theatrically cried out, "Mrs. Soong, why did you hit me? I just wanted to explain what happened last night."
Finally snapping back to reality, Mu Wanxing tried to pull her hand away, but Kin Qier held her wrist in a vice-like grip.
How could someone who seemed so delicate and frail in front of men have such strength?
Footsteps echoed as Yichen burst into the women's restroom, shoving Wanxing aside with force. "Wanxing, have you no decency? How could you lay a hand on someone with a heart condition?"
He immediately wrapped his arms around Qier, his voice filled with concern. "Qier, are you okay?"
Whatever Qier said next was lost on Wanxing. Her forehead had slammed against the sink, stars dancing in her vision, her head buzzing with a relentless hum. Instinctively, she reached out to steady herself on the sink but was tripped by an outstretched leg. She fell hard onto the cold, slippery floor, dizziness overwhelming her, leaving her unable to move for a moment.
"Are you alright?" Yichen finally asked.
Wanxing struggled to her feet, one hand bracing against the wall. Her forehead throbbed painfully, and she couldn't help but touch it. Glancing at her hand, she saw it was stained with blood.
