C4 She Wanted Her Love to Continue

Mu Wanxing wrapped up her work at the office early and headed home to prepare a few of Soong Yichen's favorite dishes, eagerly waiting for him to return.

"You seem to be in a good mood today, Miss," Wang Lan remarked as she approached. "Is there something special happening?"

Wanxing's eyes sparkled with anticipation, though she tried to maintain a calm demeanor. "No, nothing special."

"Did young master Soong say he’d be home today?" Wang Lan pressed further.

Wanxing pursed her lips. "No, he didn’t."

Seeing that Wanxing wasn't in the mood to share more, Wang Lan stepped away, occasionally glancing at Wanxing, who was waiting by the dining table, a hint of irony in her gaze.

Wanxing glanced at her watch. It was a gift from Yichen after they started dating.

That day, he had said, "This is my heart, and today, I'm giving it to you. Each tick is like my heartbeat, and we are always connected, never apart for even a second. My love for you is eternal, unchanging, until my heart stops beating and time stands still..."

His words echoed in her mind, yet...

Wanxing thought that as long as Yichen came back, she would let go of past grievances and cherish the time they had left together. After all, her life was on a countdown.

She heard the familiar sound of a car pulling into the driveway, as recognizable to her as Yichen's footsteps. Though she felt she should play it cool and not rush out to see him, her heart raced faster with each passing second.

She wasn't sure how Yichen would treat her.

Footsteps entered the door and, without much pause, headed straight for the stairs.

Wanxing stood up, her voice gentle yet anxious, "Yichen..."

"What is it?" Yichen's tone was as cold as ever, with a hint of impatience and annoyance.

Wanxing glanced at the table full of dishes, sensing that anything she said would only embarrass her.

But Wang Lan spoke up for her, "Young master, Miss Wanxing prepared all your favorite dishes and waited for you to come home and eat together. She's still hungry."

Yichen cast a glance at the table, "When did I ever say I liked these dishes?" With that, he went straight upstairs.

Wanxing lost her appetite and got up from the table.

"Miss, aren't you going to take your medicine? How can you take medicine on an empty stomach?" Wang Lan asked.

Wanxing, disheartened, replied, "Do I really have to take it? I'm going to die whether I take it or not."

Did she really need to be tormented by the bitter taste of the medicine?

"You have to take it. It'll definitely make you feel a bit better," Wang Lan insisted, promptly fetching the medicine and a glass of water, urging Wanxing to take it.

Wanxing was particularly reluctant today, resisting until Wang Lan threatened to call Mu Sheng. Not wanting to disturb his recovery, she reluctantly swallowed the medicine despite her nausea.

"What’s that awful smell on you?"

Mu Wanxing was getting into bed to rest when Soong Yichen frowned at her.

Mu Wanxing glanced down and noticed a small stain on her pajamas, a result of her earlier clumsiness. "Medicine. I'll go change."

"What kind of medicine are you taking?" Soong Yichen's frown deepened.

Mu Wanxing didn't want to explain. Would he even believe she had melanoma? Or would he accuse her of seeking sympathy?

"I'm asking you!" Soong Yichen sat up, his tone interrogative.

Mu Wanxing couldn't understand why he was so fixated on this. Did he actually care about her well-being?

"Don't take random meds and mess up your heart. It might not be usable later!" Soong Yichen said bluntly.

Mu Wanxing was speechless. To him, her heart was just a tool, with no regard for the person it belonged to.

She headed straight to the bathroom. She wasn't expecting comfort, just more heartache. She needed some peace.

When Mu Wanxing returned, Soong Yichen was on the phone. From his tone, she knew it was Kin Qier. They were exchanging sweet nothings.

How long had it been since they parted?

Mu Wanxing stood by the bed, staring at Soong Yichen.

He glanced up. "There's no rule that says you can't talk to the opposite sex after getting married, right?"

"Is this just a regular conversation? This seems like cheating!"

"Cheating isn't illegal, and besides, this is just emotional cheating at most."

"..."

"Coming back home is already a courtesy to you. Don't push me."

"..." Wanxing was so angry she felt like she was going to explode. "Aren't you worried that this stress will ruin my heart?"

"Fine." Yichen made a gesture indicating he didn't want to argue with Wanxing. "I'll take this call somewhere else."

With that, he went outside.

Wanxing had initially planned to have a serious talk with him, but her resolve faded instantly.

For days, Yichen had been physically present at home but emotionally elsewhere, constantly chatting with Qier late into the night.

Wanxing was caught in a dilemma.

Keeping Yichen at home was a severe strain on her mental and emotional well-being. Letting him go seemed like giving him and Qier the freedom to be together.

She began to question whether she should really keep her promise to donate her heart to Qier, given how far they had gone.

She needed advice.

The best person to give her guidance was her father, Mu Sheng, the person she was closest to in the world.

After work, Wanxing headed straight to the hospital to visit Mu Sheng.

She hadn't been there in days, only calling to check in and get updates, worried that he would notice the scar on her forehead and start asking questions.

Deep down, she still sided with Yichen. Even though he treated her this way, she didn't want her family to know about his faults or criticize him.

She had hoped the scar would fade, but it seemed impossible now. To cover it up, Wanxing rarely put on some makeup, feeling anxious. However, Mu Sheng didn't notice and just asked, "Wanxing, you don't look well. Is it because there’s too much going on at the company? Are you exhausted?"

"It's not the company," Wanxing's eyes reddened. "I don't know if marrying Yichen was a mistake..."

In front of her closest family, she couldn't hold back. She talked about how Yichen continued to stay close with Kin Qier after their marriage, ignoring her presence.

Finally, she said, "I don't want to donate my heart to Kin Qier anymore."

Mu Sheng pondered for a moment. "Your doctor called me... Given your current situation, I see donating your heart to Kin Qier as a way to let love continue. Are you sure you still deeply love Yichen and that hasn't changed?"

"Yes," Wanxing hesitated for a moment, then nodded. Despite how Yichen treated her now, her love was hard to end.

Mu Sheng continued with his reasoning, explaining to Wanxing that Kin Qier also loved Yichen. By giving her heart to Kin Qier, she could continue being with the person she loved in a different way.

Additionally, some experts suggest that the heart has its own memory. When Kin Qier received her heart transplant, it was as if she became part of her. This allowed her to continue her love story with Soong Yichen, which could be seen as a stroke of luck.

Truly loving someone means not being overly concerned with gains and losses, but rather prioritizing the other person's happiness.

Moreover, knowing that Wanxing's heart is still beating brings a sense of comfort to her father, as it feels like a part of his daughter is still alive, easing his loneliness.
