C8 The Female Sea King Had a Chance to Fail
Mu Wanxing felt a bit foolish at the moment, her face flushed, unable to find the words.
What Soong Yichen did at the party left her heart cold, and talking about it just felt embarrassing.
Ann Ling sensed something and softened her tone, "Wanxing, I admit, Soong Yichen was great before, but it seems like he's completely changed now. You should let yourself move on..."
Mu Wanxing understood that Ann Ling was gently suggesting she consider divorce, and she began to ponder silently.
The waiter brought over the coffee, and Mu Wanxing sipped it absentmindedly.
To lighten the mood, Ann Ling glanced around the café's décor and remarked, "This café has such a unique style, and it's not in a typical location. The owner must have great taste... How did you find this hidden gem?"
The café was tucked away behind an old street, with a serene environment and rustic décor. Without the directions she had earlier, Mu Wanxing wouldn't have found it.
"It was recommended by the owner of this dress..."
Mu Wanxing mentioned briefly.
"Oh, right, you mentioned someone playing the hero," Ann Ling suddenly remembered. "Do you think that handsome guy could be the owner of this café?"
Mu Wanxing hadn't described his appearance, but Ann Ling naturally assumed "handsome."
As they spoke, Ann Ling's gaze wandered and landed on a barista, "Hey, Wanxing, look over there. That barista is really handsome. I've never seen a guy with such good looks."
Ann Ling is quite the heartbreaker, having had her fair share of boyfriends. As a Travel Experience Officer, she spends most of the year traveling both domestically and internationally. Almost everywhere she goes, she meets new men, and some even become her boyfriends, with the previous ones becoming exes. Her list of suitors is constantly updated.
However, Ann Ling is also very particular; her one steadfast criterion for a boyfriend is that he must be handsome. As Mu Wanxing puts it, Ann Ling is a "heartthrob magnet."
Mu Wanxing isn't particularly interested in checking out good-looking guys, but to humor her best friend, she follows Ann Ling's gaze and locks eyes with a man across the room. She freezes for a moment—it's him!
Judging by his demeanor and attire, he seems like someone who could attend a high-end event, not your average guy. So why is he working as a barista in a small coffee shop?
The man nods slightly at Mu Wanxing from across the room, then returns to focusing on the coffee he's making.
"So, what do you think?" Ann Ling is still waiting for Mu Wanxing to compliment her taste.
"He's alright," Mu Wanxing manages a smile.
"Hold on, I'm going to go chat him up," Ann Ling says, eager to make a move.
Mu Wanxing sighs and hands Ann Ling a bag of clothes. "Go ahead, and while you're at it, return these clothes to him."
"These are his clothes?" Ann Ling is surprised, glancing between the barista and Mu Wanxing. She lowers her voice, "Is he into you or something?"
"How could it be possible? I don't even know them... It's a wonder they don't look down on me," Wanxing said, waving her hands dismissively.
She had made such a spectacle of herself at the party that everyone probably wanted to avoid her.
"Should I go over there?" Ann Ling asked, already moving before she finished her sentence.
Wanxing didn't want any of the men to think she was as flirtatious as Ann, so she turned her head to focus on the scenery outside the window, sipping her coffee intently.
As a perfumer, she had a keen sense for flavors, and she could tell this coffee was made with high-quality beans.
Before long, Ann returned. "Wow, he's so aloof. I tried all my best moves, but he barely acknowledged me. All he said was 'no thanks,' and that was only because I had your jacket as an icebreaker."
Wanxing chuckled.
Who would've thought the queen of flirting would hit a wall?
She figured the guy was probably warm on the inside, despite his cold exterior.
"If it's not working out, let's just leave. Maybe we'll have better luck somewhere else," Wanxing teased, placing some money on the table and getting ready to leave.
"Miss Mu, wait a moment."
A server approached, carrying a cup of coffee.
"Hmm?" Wanxing looked at him curiously.
"Our barista would like you to try this new blend and give us some feedback for improvement," the server explained.
A subtle aroma wafted into Mu Wanxing's nose. She glanced at the barista, meeting his slightly amused gaze. Taking the cup, she tasted it thoughtfully and offered a few constructive suggestions.
The server diligently noted them down. "Thank you, Miss Mu, for your valuable feedback."
"You're welcome," Wanxing replied with a gentle smile, leaving the café with Ann Ling.
"Hey, you said that guy wasn't interested in you, but he ignored me and offered you a taste of a new product that hasn't even hit the market yet," Ann Ling teased, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Wanxing shrugged it off. "He probably knows I'm a perfumer."
"No way! I know these things. It's one of those moves guys use to get your attention. You took it seriously and gave him all those suggestions. Just wait, he'll call you next, asking for your opinion as an excuse to see you at the café," Ann Ling predicted confidently.
Wanxing just shrugged.
"He's a good-looking guy, even if he's not super impressive otherwise. Considering how Yichen treats you, maybe you should leave him and see where this goes," Ann Ling encouraged.
"I'm not up for it. I don't have much time left," Wanxing replied, disinterested.
"Why won't you listen to me? Are you still planning to donate your heart to that awful woman?"
"No matter what, I don't have long to live..."
Mu Wanxing confided in Ann Ling that she had been diagnosed with late-stage melanoma. Ann was immediately overcome with sadness and hugged Wanxing tightly. "Wanxing, why is life so hard on you?"
When Wanxing returned home, it was no surprise that Soong Yichen hadn't come back again. She went into the study, turned on her computer, and started searching for "divorce agreement."
"Miss, it's time for your medication," Wang Lan said, entering with a glass of water and the pills, glancing at the computer screen.
"Just leave it there. I'll take it later." Seeing the medication only worsened Wanxing's mood.
Wang Lan didn't push the issue today and quickly left the room. Wanxing discreetly tossed the pills into the trash, resting her chin on her hand as she stared at the computer. Was it really necessary to draft a divorce agreement? All she had to do was tell Yichen she wouldn't donate her heart to Kin Qier, and he'd likely initiate the divorce himself, preparing the papers for her to sign.
With that thought, she went straight to bed. Surprisingly, deciding to end this brief marriage left her feeling quite relieved, and she slept soundly.
The next day was the weekend. Wanxing woke up late, feeling indifferent, and was surprised to find Yichen's mother, Xu Qiangwei, sitting in the living room.
"Wanxing, I heard you haven't had much of an appetite lately, so I made some soup for you. I've reheated it a few times. Please, try some," Xu Qiangwei said with a warm smile.
The two families have always gotten along well, and Xu Qiangwei has a high opinion of Mu Wanxing as her daughter-in-law, so their relationship has been harmonious. Even amidst the current tension with Soong Yichen, Mu Wanxing remained polite: "Mom, thank you."
"Yichen didn't come home last night?" Xu Qiangwei glanced upstairs.
