C1 Chapter 1 – The Boy Beneath the Ashen Peaks

The world remembered seven continents.

But the world had forgotten the eighth.

For countless ages, the Seven Continents flourished beneath the endless heavens. Empires rose and fell like waves upon the sea. Mighty cultivators split mountains with a single sword strike, while ancient beasts slept beneath oceans older than history itself. Above kings stood the Royal Families. Above the Royal Families stood the Heavenly Sects. And above even the Heavenly Sects...

Only silence remained.

Every ancient record beyond a certain point had vanished.

Every monument had been shattered.

Every name had been erased.

Yet the oldest dragons still whispered a prophecy whenever the stars aligned.

"When the Immortal Origin awakens beneath forgotten mountains, the wheel of destiny shall turn once more. The heavens will tremble, the earth will awaken, and the Eternal Sovereign shall return."

No one living believed the prophecy.

Except destiny itself.

Far from the splendor of imperial capitals...

Far from the soaring palaces of the Heavenly Sects... Far from the battlefields where legends were born...

Lay a forgotten province of the Azure Dragon Kingdom, known as Greywind Province.

It was a land the nobles mocked. A land the Royal Court neglected.

A land where caravans rarely traveled, where roads disappeared beneath tangled forests, and where the people survived only through perseverance.

At the northern edge of Greywind Province stood a modest village embraced by towering peaks whose stone had been blackened by volcanic fire in ages long past.

The villagers simply called them...

The Ashen Peaks.

Nestled beneath those ancient mountains was Riverstone Village, home to fewer than three hundred families.

There were no grand mansions. No towering walls. No famous cultivators.

Only fields of golden grain swaying in the morning breeze, humble cottages of timber and stone, and the quiet rhythm of ordinary lives.

Before sunrise, the village was already awake. Smoke curled lazily from chimneys. Children chased each other through narrow dirt paths. Women carried woven baskets toward the river. Old men sharpened farming tools while exchanging stories that grew more exaggerated with every passing year.

It was peaceful.

The kind of peace that powerful people rarely noticed.

Yet destiny had chosen this forgotten place.

The first rays of dawn slipped over the mountains.

A young boy swung an iron axe again...

and again...

and again.

Sweat dripped from his forehead. His breathing remained steady. The heavy log before him finally split cleanly into two perfect halves.

"Three hundred ninety-eight..."

"Three hundred ninety-nine..."

"Four hundred."

Only then did he lower the axe.

The boy looked no older than sixteen. His dark hair fell untidily across calm amber eyes that seemed to observe everything around him. Though dressed in coarse homespun clothing patched countless times, he stood with quiet confidence rather than pride.

His name was...

Kael Ardyn

To Riverstone Village, he was simply the orphan who worked harder than anyone else. To the village children, he was the older brother who always protected them. To the elderly, he was the first to repair broken roofs after storms. To the hunters, he was the strongest youth in the village.

Yet no one knew why. Not even Kael himself. He simply believed hard work solved everything. As he rested the axe upon his shoulder, a cheerful voice echoed through the clearing.

"Kael! You're chopping wood again?"

A skinny teenager emerged carrying two fishing nets. His clothes were muddy. His smile was impossible to dislike.

It was Finn, Kael's closest friend.

"You've already finished your morning training?" Finn asked.

Kael smiled faintly.

"I finished before sunrise."

Finn stared.

"Finished?"

Kael nodded.

"I ran to Eagle Cliff."

"...and back?"

"Twice."

Finn blinked several times before sighing dramatically.

"Sometimes I wonder if you're secretly a mountain beast pretending to be human."

Kael laughed.

"If I were, I wouldn't be splitting firewood."

"You'd probably split mountains."

The two burst into laughter that echoed through the quiet forest.

For a brief moment...

The burdens of the world did not exist.

They walked toward the village together. Along the road, Kael greeted everyone by name.

"Good morning, Aunt Mira."

"Morning, Elder Rowan."

"Need help with those sacks, Uncle Taren?"

Before anyone could answer, Kael had already lifted two grain sacks that would normally require two grown men.

The villagers smiled. Some praised his strength. Others simply shook their heads.

"That boy never rests."

"If only my son worked half as hard."

"He's too kind for his own good."

Kael accepted every compliment with the same embarrassed smile. Strength, to him, was useful only if it could ease someone else's burden. He had never dreamed of becoming famous.

Never imagined standing atop the world. He only wished for a peaceful life in the village that had raised him.

Destiny, however...

Had never asked for his opinion.

High above the clouds…..

Far above the reach of even the greatest cultivators...

A forgotten palace drifted silently through a sea of stars. Its walls were carved from black jade older than time itself. Its pillars held countless names... Every one of them had been erased.

At the center of the palace stood eight colossal thrones.

Seven radiated terrifying pressure capable of crushing heaven and earth.

The eighth... Was broken.

Half of it had collapsed into ruins. Ancient crimson stains still marked its shattered armrest, as though no passage of time could wash them away. A sword rested against the broken throne. Its blade was cracked. Its edge had long since dulled.

Yet no one dared touch it. Silence filled the palace.

Then— One figure slowly opened his eyes.

He wore robes woven from golden dragon silk, and an imperial crown floated above his silver hair. His eyes were as cold as endless winter.

"The seal has weakened."

His voice echoed through the palace.

One after another...The remaining seven Sovereigns awakened.

The aura released by any one of them would have been enough to terrify every expert across the Seven Continents.

The second Sovereign frowned.

"It has only been sixteen years."

"The child should still be hidden."

Another slowly clenched the armrest of his throne.

"The bloodline cannot awaken this early."

A woman seated upon the third throne remained silent.

For just a fleeting moment...

Her gaze lingered upon the shattered eighth throne.

A trace of guilt flashed through her ancient eyes.

Then it vanished.

The oldest Sovereign slowly rose.

He stared at the broken throne for a long time before speaking.

"No mistakes."

"No mercy."

"No witnesses."

"We erased his name."

"We erased his clan."

"We erased his legacy."

"We even erased the Eighth Throne from history."

His voice became colder.

"But if his son lives..."

"...everything we built over the last sixteen years will crumble."

The palace fell silent once more.

Even beings who ruled the heavens...

Still feared a dead man.

Finally...

The youngest of the Seven Sovereigns asked the question no one wished to hear.

"What if..."

"...he isn't dead?"

For the first time in sixteen years...

Fear appeared on the faces of the rulers of the world.

No one answered.

Because no one knew.

Outside the palace...

An ancient bell, untouched for countless ages...

Suddenly rang once.

Dong—

The sound traveled across heaven itself.

At that exact moment... Thousands of miles away... In the forgotten Riverstone Village...

Kael Ardyn instinctively looked toward the Ashen Peaks.

A strange warmth spread through his chest. He placed a hand over his heart.

"...Why do I feel..."

"...like someone is calling me home?"

Deep beneath the mountains...

Hidden beneath layers of stone older than recorded history...

Something sealed for sixteen years...

Opened one eye.
