C19 Miss 19 Who Was Cannon Fodder
Watching the taillights quickly disappear into the distance, Yiyue smiled and licked the corner of her mouth. She thought Fu Chen might have something significant to say, but it turned out to be nothing special.
Back at the house, her parents were still awake, clearly waiting for her. When she returned, they simply nodded at each other and went into their room. They didn’t ask what Fu Chen wanted, and Yiyue didn’t volunteer any information. Judging by their demeanor, they probably had someone eavesdrop on her conversation with Fu Chen.
Life moved along at its usual pace. After that night, Fu Chen didn’t show up again. Lin Yuv started hanging around the road outside the house occasionally. Once Yiyue noticed this, she made sure to drive straight into the garage, not giving Lin Yuv any chance to approach her.
On the business front, Fu Chen made a few moves against the Xi family, but Yiyue was always one step ahead, thwarting his plans before they even began. It was then that Fu Chen realized the woman he had underestimated had become a force to be reckoned with.
Yiyue’s mother held up a long white dress in front of her, saying, “Yiyue, how about letting your dad accompany you to the party this time?” Yiyue snapped out of her thoughts and shook her head. “No, thanks. There’s bound to be drinking, and after what happened with Yihann, Dad’s health can’t handle that kind of stress.”
No one really knows how Lin Yuv managed it, but somehow, she changed Xi Yihann, who had been a well-behaved kid for over twenty years.
When Yiyue declined, Xi's mother sighed, her eyes downcast. "Your brother is so stubborn. If he were here, you wouldn't have to step in, especially being a young woman."
Yiyue listened to Xi's mother ramble without responding. Whatever was going on with Xi Yihann, it wasn't her place to comment. Still, the sight of the white dress in front of her was irritating.
In the original memories, Lin Yuv attended this party wearing a white dress.
"Mom, I don't like this!" Yiyue pushed the dress aside and picked up a black one with shimmering stars. "I'll go with this one."
Xi's mother frowned slightly at the black gown. "Yiyue, isn't that dress a bit too flashy?"
Flashy? Yiyue glanced at the black dress. Maybe it was a little flashy, but overall, it was much more pleasing to the eye than the white one.
Before Xi's mother could say more, Yiyue had already swiped her card and had the dress wrapped up.
Seeing this, Xi's mother shook her head with a smile. "You, child, if you're going to choose a dress like that, why did you bring me along?"
"Who said you were here to keep me company?" Yiyue reached out and took Xi's mother's arm. "I'm just here to take a walk with Mom and maybe pick out a dress."
"You sure know how to sweet-talk," Xi's mother chuckled, her smile lingering even after they returned home.
After having dinner with Xi's parents, Yiyue went back to her room. Just as she finished her shower, her phone rang. It was a call from Luh Xin.
"Hey, Yiyue, are you going to the city gala this time?"
"Yes," Yiyue replied. After all, the dress she picked out today was for this very event.
The Xi family was expanding, and naturally, they needed to forge more alliances. That was the main goal. But truthfully, Yiyue was also going to see if she could stir things up with Fu Chen.
