C35 Walking the Pugilistic World Lady of the Heroes 11th
Given the circumstances, it was only natural to think of her.
Seeing Yiyue remain silent, Cheng Xuan sneered and continued, "The Poison Doctor from the Poison Doctor Valley once vowed never to use their potions carelessly. It seems..."
"Seems what? Are you out of your mind? Who said this poison was my mother's?" Yiyue interrupted sharply, looking utterly disdainful. This poison was clearly her own concoction!
When had Cheng Xuan ever been scolded like this? His brow furrowed, and he immediately struck out at Yiyue with a palm from a distance.
"Shameless, attacking by surprise!" Yiyue retorted without hesitation, her movements quick as she darted onto the roof of the carriage to evade the blow.
Cheng Xuan's face darkened, and he lightly swung his long sword. If he didn't kill this woman today, how could he maintain his dignity?!
Dongfang Bai had experienced Yiyue's sharp tongue before. With a weary sigh, he flicked his fingers, and the soft sword at his waist snapped out, swiftly blocking Cheng Xuan.
"Master Cheng, you should think this through. Not to mention that I'm here today, if you really harm her, consider the consequences when this reaches the Poison Doctor Valley!"
"You!" Cheng Xuan gritted his teeth. "She killed hundreds of my Cold Palace disciples!" Was he not allowed to seek revenge?!
"Fine!" Cheng Xuan sighed, finally withdrawing his hand. "When we get to the Heroes' Gathering, I'll demand an explanation from the Poison Doctor Valley!"
Although not favored in the family, he was still one of them. Let's see how Lan Xiuxiu and Huang Jiuyang explain this.
"Yes, yes, just right. I'm curious why the Cold Palace folks are after me," Yiyue said, raising her hand with a metal token dangling from her fingertips, her expression full of confidence.
Cheng Xuan's Cold Palace had always been shrouded in mystery, but they weren't strangers to undermining others behind the scenes. When the time came, all she needed to do was spill some secrets, and Cheng Xuan would quickly become the target of everyone's ire.
The story mentioned that Cheng Xuan left the family during the Heroes' Gathering. When others looked down on him, he revealed his Cold Palace identity, delivering a stinging slap to those family members. It seemed that moment wouldn't come now.
Even though she had altered some plot points, many events were bound to happen regardless. Thinking of this, Yiyue couldn't help but feel a bit smug.
Busy with the Cold Palace's downfall, Cheng Xuan likely hadn't paid attention to the family. At the upcoming Heroes' Gathering, who knows if he could still boast?
Seeing the token in Yiyue's hand, Cheng Xuan was momentarily at a loss for words.
Yiyue, however, ignored him completely, jumping onto the wagon and bending down to slip back inside. Before disappearing, she glanced back at Dongfang Bai. "Hey, you like tagging along, right? You drive!"
Seeing Yiyue's gaze land on him, Dongfang Bai incredulously pointed at himself.
"Is she calling me?"
After a moment, he sheepishly sheathed his sword and eagerly climbed into the carriage, not forgetting to cast a warning glance at Cheng Xuan.
As he watched the two drive away, Cheng Xuan nearly ground his teeth in frustration. It wasn't that he couldn't act now, but Dongfang Bai was tough to deal with, and having a poison expert by his side, capable of taking down a slew of Cold Palace's best, made Cheng Xuan wary.
Once Cheng Xuan's figure disappeared from view, Dongfang Bai finally let out a cautious sigh of relief. He was genuinely worried about Cheng Xuan making a move. If that happened, how could he protect little Yiyue?
Unaware of the tension between the two, Yiyue propped her head up, watching the man's silhouette occasionally appear through the moving carriage curtains.
Why wasn't she avoiding Dongfang Bai anymore? It was all because of that dream earlier! How could she fulfill Huang Yiyue's wish without a man? If she had to choose, Dongfang Bai seemed the most agreeable.
The carriage rocked gently, and before she knew it, Yiyue had drifted off to sleep again. With Dongfang Bai around, she didn't have to worry about a thing.
After traveling for about ten days, they finally arrived at the site of the Heroes' Gathering, Mount Kongtong!
"Hmm, sounds like a name straight out of a martial arts novel."
"The carriage won't make it," Dongfang Bai said, frowning as he looked at the steep mountain path.
Yiyue turned her head, squinting at the morning sun that was a bit too bright for her just-awake eyes. "Well, if it can't, it can't."
Dongfang Bai looked up. "But what about your nap?"
Yiyue was speechless. How does this guy's brain work? Even if the carriage could go up this path, she wouldn't be able to sleep!
"No worries, I'll carry you up!" Dongfang Bai quickly suggested what he thought was the best solution.
Yiyue rolled her eyes, giving him a look that screamed, "I don't know this idiot," and with a light tap of her toes, she leaped away, disappearing in a few bounds.
"Wait for me, Yiyue!" Dongfang Bai had no idea how he'd upset her again. He rubbed his nose and hurried after her.
As soon as they reached the mountain, Yiyue was stopped. "Who goes there? State your name!"
Yiyue glanced at the person blocking her way and was about to speak.
"Independence City!" Dongfang Bai's voice floated over from a distance, cutting off Yiyue before she could say anything.
In the next moment, Dongfang Bai, dressed in white, stood by her side, presenting a token unique to Independence City.
Each sect and faction recognized these tokens for identification.
The guard glanced at the token and let them pass.
A young woman dressed as a maid stepped forward, curtsied, and said, "Young Master, miss, please follow me."
As January trudged along, she weighed the token in her sleeve. Lan Xiuxiu had given it to her before leaving the valley. She wondered if they would attend this so-called "Heroes Gathering."
They were led into a small courtyard by a maid who bowed again before swiftly exiting through the gate. Her steps were light and graceful, disappearing quickly, revealing her as someone skilled in martial arts.
Turning back, January noticed Dongfang Bai staring blankly at her. Rolling her eyes, she chose a room and shut the door, cutting off his gaze. After such a long journey, claiming she wasn't tired would be a lie.
January lay on the bed, turning over as she silently called out to the system. No matter how much she tried, there was no response. Frustration bubbled up inside her. She should have protested to the system when she first learned of Huang Jiuyang's wish. Realizing this now felt too late.
Could the system be ignoring her because it knew what she wanted to ask? January felt utterly defeated. Could she just end it all? Could she fail the mission?
After staying holed up in the room for several days, it was the enticing aroma of food that finally lured January out.
