C5 Psychotic Break
Emma's POV
After the breakdown I had the other day and the crazy moment that followed right after it, I have been extremely skeptical around mirrors, glass doors, stainless cutlery, basically anything that would show my reflection.
It sounds bizarre that my reflection winked at me but I am so sure of what I saw. I've been noticing other strange things this past week at work and at home. I breathed out, I really hope I'm not going crazy.
I walked towards the heap of documents my boss asked me to scan and looked at the pile in disgust. I'm going to need another cup of coffee.
The closest cafe to Haven's Brick; the housing agency I worked as a receptionist for, was a stone's throw away, barely a 10 minutes walk. I plugged in my earphones and started my stroll there. There's really nothing playing through it, this was a trick I learnt from my high school friend, Allison to avoid conversations with people. This way, you could ignore them and blame it on the loud sounds blaring in your head if confronted. Smart right?
I breezed into the cafe filling my lungs with the smell of freshly brewed coffee, almost like my mum's. "At this point I'm starting to think you might be following me," a familiar voice that sent tingles down my arm said from behind me.
My inner femme purred as his structure came into view. "Elias," I breathed out, looking straight at his chest. Memories from the night at the party quickly resurfaced making a scowl grace my face as I took a step back from him.
"Please let me talk to you Emma," he said, stretching a hand towards me. "I just want to talk". I hesitantly placed my hand on his and felt my mind ease almost immediately. It felt like all my worries had been washed away by a wave, I felt lighter. He led me by the hand to sit at a table by the far end of the room.
"I apologize for what I said to upset you the other night, I didn't mean it the way you understood it. Please don't hate me, I'm still trying to make a food impression" he said looking into my eyes. I couldn't ignore the intensity of his burning hazel eyes, they almost seemed to have a red ring around them.
He was beautiful, there was this otherworldly glow and aura to him. I couldn't guess his race but he almost looks Filipino with that chiseled jaw and bronze skin. I wasn't sure though. And those lips, they looked so kissable that I almost licked my lips looking at them.
I wonder if he lived around, could he be married? Have a family perhaps? I almost gasped out dreadfully, I could be olging at someone's father.
"Emma, you haven't said anything." I quickly snapped back to reality at the sound of his voice.
"It's fine, I forgive you" my cheeks must have been burning red at this point as I tried to shake those thoughts out of my head.
"Thank you", he breathed out. "Are you busy now or can I have a few minutes of your time?," he asked with a boyish grin that would have any lady falling at her feet.
I nodded, smiling softly, "I need to get a cup of coffee first, would you like one?" He shook his head in response as I stood up to the counter.
As I glanced behind me while they were preparing my order, I noticed something I hadn't taken note of before. Elias sat with a certain air of authority, he had captured the eyes of every single person in the cafe and he seemed oblivious to it all. He really was otherworldly.
Carrying the small tray with my coffee and a glass of milkshake for Mr hottie, I spun around to return to my seat. Maybe a little too fast because I felt myself falling to the ground. I closed my eyes to wait for the impact but it never came.
I peeled my eyes open in confusion to see that time had stopped around me. Everything seemed to have frozen in time, the tray and its constituents were in the air, customers paused chewing mid way, the cleaners seemed to have paused in their tracks and the coffee machine stopped mid-flow. Everything stopped, including…. Elias?
He was moving towards me.
I don't know what shocked me the most, that time had stopped against me or that this hulk of a man was somehow immune to it.
"Did I do this?," I asked with a shaky voice looking at my hands with wide eyes.
He was taking careful steps towards me with his arm spread out by his sides, "no, you didn't but you need to relax now. Calm down and take a deep breath" he urged, standing less than an inch away.
I took a leap back in fear. What if I hurt him?
"Don't come any closer, I don't want to hurt you" my eyes did a quick sweep of the room, I could see dust particles suspended in air, a fly all the way behind the counter that stopped mid sweep of the tray of cookies. I heard my own heartbeat thumping in my ears.
"Emma" he called out standing in front of me but it almost felt like I could see through him. "Emerald" he called again, this time placing both his hands on mine.
I gasped as everything fell back into place. It was like someone paused a movie and had just clicked 'play'. Luckily, Elias caught the tray in time to stop coffee and glass shards from spilling all over.
Looking around, it was like nothing happened, people resumed their eating, workers continued their work. There was no proof of what had transpired a few moments ago, none except I and the strange man that stood before me.
Fuck.
My boss is so going to fire me if I tell this crazy story.
Elias' POV
She smells different. The first time we met, she smelt completely like a human and the second time, I couldn't place my finger on it because we were only in contact for a short while. But as I sit across from her in such close proximity, I'm certain this is not the scent she initially had. Something was different, and for some reason, it filled me with anxiety.
Her scent did not change the attraction I felt for her. I couldn't explain it, I was drawn to her presence and captivated by her mere existence. I would have said this was the mate's pull but it isn't, I know first hand what that feels like.
I could almost see the shock in the faces of both my Beta and Delta if they should see me in this position. Interacting with humans like this would be the last thing anybody would expect a werewolf to do, especially not the Alpha king.
"I need to get a cup of coffee first, would you like one?" her voice sounded like music to my ears. I managed to pull myself out of my mini trance to shake my head in response.
Who is this girl and what is she doing to me?
I wanted to run my fingers across her skin, through her hair, over her lips, anything. I just wanted to feel the heat of her body always. She looked so small and delicate, yet so tough and enigmatic.
I felt the air shift milliseconds before I saw it. If I weren't standing right there, nobody could have made me believe what I was seeing at that very moment.
Time had stopped around Emma and myself, everything was frozen in place.
That wasn't a psychotic break from me or an illusion, that was unmistakably a defense spell. Emma's a witch??
I was still lost in thoughts when she fell towards me. Her body burned and I knew this wasn't a job for Dr Martin who I had called the night she passed out by the creek. I needed a wolf, the pack doctor. I dashed out of the street with as much speed as my human form could produce, holding her firm in my arms.
