C14 I Don't Have Any Infectious Diseases
After a night of turmoil, Juno was completely drained. Even her conversation with him in the library was laced with fatigue and confusion.
Thayer couldn't help but chuckle at the sight of her bleary-eyed weariness. He smoothly took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders. "Junior Sister Fowler, be careful not to catch a cold."
"Thank you, senior, but... no need!" Juno stammered, startled by his gesture. She hastily handed back the coat, her flustered demeanor as if he were some kind of wild beast.
Thayer was slightly taken aback but simply smiled without saying much more.
He had always found Junior Sister Fowler to be aloof and unapproachable, the school's most elusive prize. Yet, her current state of alarm was unexpectedly amusing to him.
"Junior Sister Fowler, I assure you, I'm not contagious." Thayer didn't put his coat back on, instead casually slinging it over his wrist.
The two of them walking together through the library made for a striking scene, drawing the curious glances of many students.
Thayer's popularity at the school was well-known, and Juno was celebrated for her stellar academic achievements, being a prized pupil of Professor Li. They were both regarded as the epitome of excellence, not just for their looks but also for their scholarly prowess.
Their appearances together were rare, and given Juno's reserved nature and limited social interactions, she was seldom seen at school events.
Yet, Juno hadn't anticipated she'd be facing Zorin again so soon, especially not standing opposite him on the grounds of Galvorn University.
Zorin emerged from the driver's seat of his luxury car, his gaze intense as he surveyed the pair, who seemed perfectly matched.
Juno felt frozen in place, her limbs icy, a chill spreading throughout her body.
She was desperate to flee, but Zorin's piercing stare seemed to anchor her, causing her heart to plummet.
"Brother, this is my schoolmate, and she's your junior too, surnamed Fowler, named Juno," Thayer said, oblivious to the tension between them. He teased, "You used to refuse to join me for a meal, but now you're the one calling and asking me to wait for you here. Has the sun started rising from the west?"
"I'm just here to check if you've found yourself a girlfriend," Zorin said as he adjusted his glasses. His strikingly handsome features and mature, refined demeanor instantly drew whispered speculation from several girls.
With a composed and gentlemanly smile, Zorin extended his hand. "Junior Sister Fowler."
Juno's smile was strained and weak. She forced herself to extend her hand, but upon touching his fingers, she involuntarily shuddered.
Their eyes met, and then she quickly looked away in alarm.
Zorin at Galvorn University? Could he have come because of her, to dig into her background?
But Juno dismissed the thought almost as quickly as it surfaced. What kind of person was Zorin? It was unlikely he would return to his alma mater solely because of her.
Her hands and feet were ice-cold, numb with dread. The university was her sanctuary, her final bastion.
Unable to discern Zorin's intentions, Juno's heart pounded violently. She swallowed hard, standing rigidly in place as if she were a walking dead.
"Junior Sister Fowler, would you like to join me for a meal?" Zorin's smile was as natural as ever, his demeanor gentle and warm. Yet the icy glint in his eyes snapped Juno back to reality.
"No, thank you, Senior Brother Slater. You go on without me; I'm too tired and will head back to the dorm," Juno said, eager to escape, but Zorin's words rooted her to the spot.
"Junior Sister Fowler, are you not feeling well? Your complexion seems off. Perhaps you overworked yourself with last night's studying and didn't get enough rest?" Zorin inquired softly.
