C5 Chapter Five

Mrs Joanna's Pov

I made my way to the kitchen to pour myself a cup of juice, while.deciding on whether to take cookies with it ,I heard a door slam shut and the next thing I saw was Erica walking out the door with a box in her hands. My motherly instinct told me something was wrong and I had to care but then I remembered the fact that I had never really been there for her or even any of my children while they were growing up the realization of this hit me so hard that I couldn't even walk up to my daughter. I watched her leave as I made my way upstairs confused on what to do.

I remember how Eben and I started as two young adults who knew nothing about marriage or how to run a family. He was rich, I was an average teenager who just loved to enjoy life and so for me, we were a perfect match for each other. He didn't have any issue with me and that was all marriage was about to him. We got married and then I began to enjoy life the way I wanted with maids at my beck and call. I enjoyed this life of being attended to, had fun with friends, going to parties not until I found out that I was pregnant...

Terry's Pov

I led mom to get to her room as she looked so worn out and vulnerable, she looked like she was going to pass out any minute with swollen eyes, red face and an unkept hair. I never knew she loved him this much, Maybe she just never showed it after we were born. The next day, we all gathered in the sitting room to discuss about dads funeral and also the date, venue and the people we would invite. Mom was of the opinion that we bury him without any rites or pastor but I thought it wouldn't be right since he was a well known man in our community and also even though we didn't attend any church, we should be able to get someone to perform a funeral service for us, Debby agreed with me on this and I was so surprised at how she took the whole issue so calmly except on the day he died, when she kept staring into space. She looked so sorted out and calm now, I guess she didn't really miss him that much, as for me, I didn't even know where I belonged but one thing still remains the fact that whether I missed him or not, he was still my father who took care of me whether he was there or not, he still paid my bills and I just had to do what I had to do. I sat down and imagined how life would be after all this, I guess I would be asked to take after Dad's company anytime soon and then I asked myself, "was I really ready for this"?
