Nobody had imagined that Tengel the Good’s mother would be like that.

She had to be no more than twenty. She didn’t seem particularly intelligent – more like a girl that men could easily lead astray. She wasn’t pretty. She had a slightly disillusioned look on her face, as if she knew perfectly well that she was good enough as a random bed-warmer for a man, but she didn’t have much else to offer
