Within the imperial city, the Forbidden City was divided into internal and external courts, with the Qian Qing Sect as the boundary. The southern area was where the external court, the emperor, and the ministers worked. North of the Door of Qian Qing was the inner palace, the emperor's quarters, as well as the empress's quarters.

As the main hall of the inner palace
