C10 Only for Money
“Cough, cough.” Yuu Jin quickly brought his fist to his lips, coughing lightly as his face turned bright red, clearly startled by Gu Yuan's straightforwardness.
Gu Yuan didn’t seem to notice Yuu Bingzhong’s puzzled look and said seriously, “Twenty-eight hours should be enough time for you to think it over, right?”
“I thought Miss Gu was joking,” Yuu Jin said, lifting his eyelids slightly. His large palms were beginning to sweat. He knew very well he couldn’t agree to Gu Yuan’s request.
The fortune teller had said he was destined to bring bad luck to his wife and wouldn’t live past twenty-four. Anyone close to him would inevitably face misfortune. Though he didn’t believe in fate, harsh reality forced him to consider it.
“Do I look like someone who jokes around?” Gu Yuan stared at Yuu Jin’s face, feeling more and more that it was exactly to her liking.
Yuu Jin sighed, deciding to be honest. “I bring bad luck to my wife.”
“I know.” Gu Yuan had seen it the first time she laid eyes on him. She smirked confidently, “It’s fine. I’m tough.”
“I won’t live past twenty-four.”
“But you’re not dead yet, are you?” Gu Yuan tilted her head, gesturing to his healthy body with a light smile.
Yuu Jin: “...” He didn’t know how to argue with that.
In the end, he bit his lip in frustration, “In any case, it’s just not possible.”
"Alright, alright," Gu Yuan shrugged in disappointment. Since the other party wasn't interested, she wouldn't push it.
Yuu Bingzhong had been a silent observer for quite a while, but he finally understood. This young girl actually had her eyes on his grandson; she was certainly bold.
"So, why did you call me here today?" Gu Yuan was getting tired of standing. She stretched out her long arm, unapologetically pulled over a chair, and sat down. She then grabbed an apple from Yuu Jin's bedside table, took a bite, and executed the whole sequence smoothly and effortlessly.
Yuu Bingzhong was so annoyed by her casual demeanor that he almost blew a gasket. He retracted his earlier admiration, thinking he must have been blind to consider her a hidden master.
Seeing Yuu Bingzhong's temper about to flare, Yuu Jin quickly intervened, "Miss Gu, are you familiar with this talisman?" As he spoke, Yuu Jin pulled a yellow talisman from the pocket of his hospital gown and laid it in his palm.
"It's mine," Gu Yuan said, never one to hide her achievements. Since they had come to her, they must have figured out most of it, or they wouldn't have confronted her with the talisman.
Yuu Jin smiled, "Your talisman is quite effective. Do you have more? I'm willing to pay for them."
Gu Yuan saw an opportunity she couldn't pass up. Taking another crisp bite of her apple, she nodded with a smile, "One million per talisman, as many as you need." With no other options, she aimed for profit.
As a skilled talisman maker, crafting such items was second nature to her. Besides, the talisman Yuu Jin requested was just a simple one to ward off evil—an easy task for Gu Yuan.
Yuu Bingzhong couldn't hold back any longer. His face flushed with anger as he pointed at Gu Yuan, exclaiming, "A million? Why don't you just rob a bank! You're really asking for a lot, young lady. The old man advises you to have some decency!"
Gu Yuan tossed the apple core into the trash and smiled warmly, "If the old man agrees to let Yuu Jin marry me, I won't charge a cent."
