C11 The First Bucket of Gold
If Yuu Bingzhong had a cane in his hand, he'd definitely give this little chatterbox a good whack!
How could his grandson, Yuu Jin, be someone a third-rate starlet could even dream of getting close to?
"Someone, get this lunatic out of here!" Yuu Bingzhong's anger surged, his eyes blazing with fury, making him look especially intimidating.
The bodyguards outside immediately rushed in, their aggressive demeanor resembling that of a street gang.
Seeing this, Gu Yuan quickly backed down, wearing an awkward smile. "Why is the old man so sensitive to a little joke?" she said, adjusting her tone. "If you think a million dollars is too steep, then there's no need to go through with this deal. Consider the talisman in Yuu Jin's hand a free gift from me. I'll just chalk today up as a wasted trip. Whether Yuu Jin can hold on for the next two weeks is up to fate..."
Yuu Bingzhong moved his lips, his anger dissipating with her words. "How long does your talisman last?"
Gu Yuan raised an eyebrow, surprised at how quickly he believed her. It seemed the Yuu family had a strong capacity for acceptance.
She held up half a finger. "If Elder Yuu buys ten at once, I'll throw in a protective charm for free. It could save a life in a pinch."
Two weeks, and ten would cover five months.
Yuu Bingzhong didn't immediately agree. Instead, he looked at Yuu Jin, signaling him to make his own decision. After all, the Yuu family wasn't short on money, and if it meant saving Yuu Jin's life, a million dollars was a small price to pay.
If the talisman didn't work, Yuu Bingzhong wouldn't let it go easily. It would just be like spending a million dollars to save a life.
Yuu Jin's deep eyes never left Gu Yuan. Hearing her words, his expression softened a bit. He turned to Yuu Bingzhong and said, "Grandpa, write Miss Gu a check for a million dollars."
Yuu Bingzhong wasn't sure how effective the talisman would be, but Yuu Jin knew. He wasn't entirely confident that these few talismans would help him make it past his twenty-fifth birthday, but he couldn't help but hope that maybe this person in front of him could save him from disaster.
Yuu Bingzhong shot Gu Yuan an annoyed glance. Just seeing her carefree smile was enough to irritate him. However, being a man who had weathered many storms, he managed to suppress his dissatisfaction.
He gestured to a nearby bodyguard, who promptly retrieved a stack of checks and a pen from his suit pocket and handed them to Yuu Bingzhong.
Yuu Jin handed the check to Gu Yuan, his tone distant and detached as he asked, "When can I expect to receive your talisman, Miss Gu?"
Gu Yuan raised an eyebrow with a cheerful grin, tucking the check into her pocket. "I can give it to you right now." With that, she pulled out a stack of meticulously drawn talismans from another pocket, casually counting out ten exorcism charms and one heart-protection charm for Yuu Jin, as if she were selling cabbages.
"Geez, I've got so many more here!" Gu Yuan frowned in mock frustration, already scheming how to sell out the rest of her talismans.
Yuu Bingzhong couldn't help but twitch his lips at the sight. He felt an urge to swat this cheeky little rascal. She had at least a hundred talismans on hand, and if she sold them all at her price, she'd make a fortune in no time. He clutched his chest, feeling a twinge of pain.
"I noticed Elder Yuu seems to have some issues too. How about a few charms for you?" Gu Yuan winked at Yuu Bingzhong with a mischievous glint, like a little fox obsessed with money.
"No need!"
