Gu Yuan's room was on the second floor, to the right of the staircase. Opposite the bedroom door hung a painting in a distorted frame. The painting depicted a woman sitting in a sea of purple flowers, her face adorned with exquisite makeup and a smile as radiant as a beam of winter sunlight. The painting itself was fine, but the frame was peculiar
