C18 Clara Was Defeated

She was being mocked by the people in the neighborhood. Most of the time, it was Clara's fault. When Irene saw her, she subconsciously became wary.

Originally, she wanted to leave, but seeing that Dwight was so protective of her and that he was filled with resentment, she decided to retort for the first time. She pretended to be concerned and asked, "Clara, is the slap you received at the market last time still hurting?"

Since Aunt Claras didn't respect her, there was no need for her to respect her. She was just stepping on someone else's toes.

When Clara heard her words, the smile on her face, which she had barely managed to maintain because of Dwight, instantly collapsed. She subconsciously touched her face and nervously held the basket in her hand. "It doesn't hurt anymore."

She dodged Irene's gaze. "It's getting late. I have to pick up my grandson after buying the groceries."

After saying that, she left the two of them with the impression that they had run away.

Irene pursed her lips and smiled. Every time she clashed with Clara, the Rodriguez family would flee in panic. If Gladys was present, the content of her nagging would definitely change into the miserable one today.

She secretly vented her anger. She turned around and saw that Dwight was looking at her with a smile. His obsidian-like eyes were as gentle as water. She blushed and coughed. She seemed to have lost control.

Because of the incident with Clara, the two of them seemed to be on the same side, and the atmosphere became much more relaxed. Irene was also embarrassed to give him a look.

Furthermore, she was the one who was in the wrong. She had to take responsibility for her actions.

Dwight asked, "What did you mean just now?"

Irene raised her head in confusion.

"It's about the slap on Clara's face."

"Oh, Clara bought some vegetables and felt that the stall owner was missing her scale. The stall owner did not recognize her and scolded her for killing her grandson, so the stall owner slapped her." Irene explained concisely.

Dwight found it funny that she was actually talking about such a trivial matter. From this, it could be seen that Clara's venomous mouth was an indiscriminate attack.

The elevator soon arrived at the floor. However, Irene hesitated to step out of the elevator.

Dwight immediately understood her meaning and said, "Since we're married, of course we have to pay a formal visit to our parents-in-law."

His parents-in-law... Irene's face stiffened as she silently cursed. He was really quick to get into character.

She thought for a moment and said with a straight face, "My mother wants me to get married as soon as possible, but she doesn't want me to casually find someone to marry. The person I want to marry has to pass her. The person whose name is the same as yours was introduced by my aunt. She knows me very well.

My aunt and mother are a little stiff. She wanted to ease the tension by introducing someone to me. Besides, my mother is most satisfied with him. His surname is the same as mine, and I am the only daughter in our family. When we have children in the future, we can inherit the Rodriguez family."

Dwight listened attentively and read every word in his heart. The meaning behind Irene's few words was very rich.

First, he had to get the beauty back. He had to pass through the hurdle of Gladys.

Second, he had already offended Lillian before he even met her. It might even cause the relationship between Lillian and Gladys to become even colder.

Thirdly, Gladys still hoped that Irene's child would have the same surname as her.

Dwight frowned as he thought about it. He nodded decisively and said, "Don't worry, I can handle all of this."

Irene didn't know if he really understood her meaning or if he was just pretending to understand. A woman would always twist and turn, and a man would never be able to catch up to her.

Immediately after, she saw that Dwight was looking at her warmly. She smiled and said, "Irene, are you worried that I won't be able to win the affection of your parents-in-law?"

If he could not win Gladys' heart, this marriage might end in vain. Irene reminded him that she wanted to live with him.

Dwight's eyes became even warmer and brighter.

Irene blushed and said fiercely, "I'm not worried about you! Don't be so slick and make random guesses."

This look was really cute. Dwight couldn't help but lower his head and kiss her.

"Aiya!" Irene took two steps back and covered her hot lips. "That's not what a gentleman should do."

Dwight chuckled, "A gentleman does not use force."

Irene was speechless.

Suddenly, the elevator door opened, and a man in a suit handed a box of exquisite packaging to Dwight. "Mr. Jones, here's your gift box."

Dwight immediately turned around and disappeared from their sight.

Irene secretly praised him for being so attentive. She asked in confusion, "Who is that person?"

Dwight replied, "The delivery man."

Irene rolled her eyes at him. She didn't believe him, but she didn't have the time to think about it.

The two of them entered the house and found it to be a mess.

Barney and Gladys were rummaging through the house. Mrs. Jones's voice came from the bedroom, "I remember that the household register is here. Why is it missing?"

Irene's face froze. What a coincidence, how could it be that Gladys was about to use her mouth?

"Mom, I'm back. The household register is with me." Irene shouted, and then raised her voice, "Dwight, sit down first."

Dwight's eyes were filled with mockery. He acted like it was real.

She called his name like a feather fluttering in her heart, making her itch.
