C7 Curious

Asher’s face rumpled. He had been at it for over a few minutes

The girl at the club and the girl that surely would be at the werewolf quarters by now were the same. The very girl that had occupied her mind the past few days. He was definitely sure about it.

He was so certain she was the one yet couldn't understand why she acted so different.

But why was she amongst the werewolf women?

He paused and envisioned all over again her face and her reaction when he asked her to look up.

He kept on wondering why she acted like she had never seen him before. He should have asked her right there and then but the elders were watching. And he clearly saw Elder Conor’s eyes on her.

His jaw tightened. Those greedy elders…He knew what they would have been planning. He saw through their lustful eyes.

Unable to hold back anymore, he called Ethan in.

“I need you to bring one of the new werewolf girls to me.”

“A new werewolf girl?” Ethan was surprised.

Then his face broke into smug grin.“You know you have been acting strange these days, Asher. First, you go against the elders all of a sudden and now you want a werewolf girl to be brought to you. Finally got craving for some attention, down there? Huh?”

Asher eyed him. “It's not what you are thinking.”

“Really? So what is it then? I am very curious.”

“Curious eh? That would be the end of you if you are not careful. Now go and bring her.”

Ethan peered suspiciously at his friend who was getting weirder by the day. He knew Asher like he knew the back and front of his palms. No matter how pretty the werewolf women were or how much they seduced him, he had never fallen nor considered them. Even for once.

“Well, always at your service, my lord and Alpha. Now what is the name of this werewolf girl I have to bring to my lordship and Alpha?”

Asher blinked. He didn't know her name. He didn't remember asking. For a moment he felt like a complete fool.

“Her name?” Ethan demanded again.

Asher dug his hair into his hair and scratched. “I don't remember her name.”

“You don't remember her name or you don't know her name at all?”

Asher glanced at Ethan and wondered when he became a mind reader. He groaned inwardly expecting more taunt from him.

Ethan smirked. “Don't worry, I promise I won't judge you. Just give me a description of her and I will bring her.”

“She is slender and a bit tall. She is beautiful…”

“Uhm!” Ethan faked a cough, the smirk in his face deepening.

“I told you it's not what you are thinking.”

“I'm sure I only coughed just now. Can you go ahead, sir?”

Asher dragged in a breath picturing Scarlett's face one more time as he continued. “She is beautiful and she has a sharp but rounded face and her hair is… her hair is long and dark.”

He wanted to add she had brown eyes too but stopped knowing that half of the werewolf girls probably had brown eyes.

Ethan shook his head. Whoever this werewolf girl was, she had to tell him what she had done to his friend.

“Is that all you have? Anything specific about her, maybe something like freckles or tan or what have you.”

Asher pondered hard. A name kept popping up in his head but not clear enough for him to interpret.

“Ah. Scarlett!” he suddenly remembered.

“Scarlett. That's her name,” he repeated very confidently this time.

“Very well then. I will be on my way to bring this Scarlett.”

And off went Ethan.

Asher stood up, walked towards the window and stared out. The cloud was still bright even though night was approaching.

While he waited for Ethan and his guest, he busied himself with the thoughts of what he was embarking on. Ousting the corrupt elders and putting things in place.

He knew exactly what he was supposed to do but he didn't know how.

His father's voice echoed in his head. His last words at his sick bed reared up.

Asher swallowed painfully.

He was no longer a little boy that needed to be protected. If he continued sitting back and turning a blind eye to everything, Howling Moon Pack would be ruined. The Pack his father suffered for decades to build will be ruined. He wished his father would understand his new found courage and support his decision even if it might cost him not just his position but his life.

The sound of the door indicating the entrance of someone brought his mind back to the moment.

He turned around expecting to see Ethan and…

But it was only Scarlett that entered. He stopped and took her in.

Now that she was seeing her within a close range and enclosed space, Asher was more than certain she was the same girl.

Same height, same hair but not as daring as the one at the club.

Her head was bent so he couldn't notice her eyes.

“Raise your face,” he ordered and she did.

“You remember me, don't you?”

She shook her head. “How can a humble lady like me remember someone as great as you.”

She lowered her head again. Asher’s gaze narrowed. Why did she keep lowering her head almost as if she was trying to avoid his gaze?

“At the club. Do you want me to go further? You still do not remember?”

“I don't remember you. I'm not lying. I cannot dare lie to my Alpha.”

Asher was maddened. But he was no fool.

“Are you calling me a liar?”

Her gaze swung up. “I dare not do that!”

Now Asher was beyond baffled. If he wasn't sure of his memory he would have doubted himself.

“Fine. Since you don't remember. One of my elders have eyes on you. Have you any idea what he is planning to do to you? You only need to tell me you remember everything that happened that night and I will save you from him.”

She didn't move.

Asher waited. Still she didn't move nor said anything and with her stance, Asher just knew she was going to keep on denying it even if he kept her there for the next five hours.

Then he wheeled around. “You may leave.”

Backing the exit, he only looked behind his shoulder when he heard the door shut.

"Fool. I was willing to save her life."

As if his senses suddenly returned, he began to question his actions wondering why he was worried about her.

Elder Conor might as well treat her as he pleased. It wasn't something he should concern himself with, especially not when he had bigger issues to deal with.
